It was just me and her father. He'd walk closer but just maintained a distance.

"I have made my daughter apologize... please can the files having my illegal mining be closed now?"

I chest out, twisted my lips and then moved my hands into my pockets.

Exactly. I had something on him to make him change his plans of bringing over the council members for a meeting about the vandalization of some of his assets.

It breaks the pride of his daughter and I doubt if she would be ever to face me again.

"What do you say about the players you stole from me?"

"I'm sorry, I didn't steal them. Xandra is mostly in charge of my club dealings and she told me they came over themselves"

"Even when Aaron came over to claim them?"

"I didn't get to meet Aaron, perhaps my daughter stalled him on my behalf" he takes out a hankie and wipe off sweat from his forehead. "And the players refusing to return was probably their wish but please, I still apologize"

I breath hard, studying him. I saw the sincerity in his eyes and how he was a victim of his daughter.

But then, I wouldn't spare a criminal.

"Let me think over it" I said to him but he seems not to trust my words.

"Please... can't the decision be made now?".

"Does this place look like a court? We are in the hallway!" I snarled with authority as he bite his lips.

"Okay alpha" he agreed, giving a bow again and left.

I still had the chip in my hand and so I broke it, picked the pieces, trashed it.

I'd almost reached for my room when I gave Athena a chance to commune with me.

"Have you met the lawyer?"

Shit! That was the question she asked and I knew I forgot which shouldn't be so.

I would have gone last night, but this omega case came up, then the early hours of this morning, I was being fucked.

Surprisingly, I'd gained energy like nothing happened. Then off I went to the rink and after, a press conference to explain my affair.

Everyone wants to know about my life. I just made them know he was one of my many boyfriends, not a serious relationship.

Just like male alphas, I had a harem just the reverse.

I intended to sleep but then it wasn't a bad idea.

Turning around, I set off to leave.

It was evening already by the time I had gotten to the lawyer's house.

Unfortunately, I didn't meet him at home but I got to know that he was at someone's party... something like that, to deliver a file.

Which left me no option than to head for the party.

I just wanted a confirmation, that I was going to be coronated for real.

The next few minutes, I was already at the penthouse belonging to one of the council members.

Probably one of his child. I'd walked in through the badge I'd shown to the bouncers.

They were respectful, didn't question me and just welcomed me in.

Just not to steal the spotlight, I came dressed simple, with a mask as a custom though.

I had no idea why the lawyer was here but then, I needed to find him.

I'd spotted a place less crowded to take fresh air as finding him seems difficult.

I didn't want him to know I was coming, that's why I didn't text him.

His wife was my informant. However, my thoughts got distracted when I sensed footsteps retreating.

"I smell him" Athena suddenly muttered titling her head as her eyes were sharp.

"The lawyer?" I asked following the direction she took.

"No, Adam"

Although, that came as a surprise as I'd thought he was some coded guy who doesn't likes party.

"Oh, what if he'd dating that girl?"

"Yeah, that's true. Let's check it out" Athena muttered, sounding envious.

"You told the press you actually have a harem, why not kidnap Adam and add him to your harem"

I almost burst into laughter because it sounded funny.

I followed the scent down to a room, and just when I intended to open it, I realized it was locked.

But there was a loud sound coming from inside.

"Are they fucking inside?" I asked pouting and giggling that the guy Athena likes was cheating.

That makes us even.

"Let's just see"

"No respect privacy Athena. Look the sign before we got here implies we should sneer off" I said pointing at a threshold just a distance from this corridor.

We just breeched that because of our curiosity.

"Just a peep, I promise we'd be out"

I'd taken out a pin in my hair, to unlock the door.

Slowly, I stride it open and crawled inside, making no sound.

Just as I was about to close the door, I froze at the sight before me.

A masked man, using a rope to strangle her as she kicked her legs, struggling.

His back was facing me but I could see the side of his face.

What's happening!

I didn't know what to do, didn't listen to Athena but hastily grabbed a lamp stand close to me, to smash his head but he shoved her away, avoiding my hit.

She was coughing, writhing on the floor and this intruder happens to race towards the window, to jump off.

I didn't want to lose him. He was dressed as the very description of the killer.

Even Athena seems to be intrigued to see his face.

Before he'd leap out, I'd grabbed his forearm, panting hard and swirling him around to look at his face.

Didn't know I had such strength to pull a rebel. I couldn't see his eyes but Athena was so drawn to him, she'd cower herself in fear.

"Mate!" She whimpered and my eyes widened at him but he used my confused state to push me back.

I stumbled, almost crashing to floor but held my position.

"Follow him" Athena charged not concerned about the victim on the floor.

My eyes gazed around the room and I spotted a bow and arrow.

It could be useful, pulling it out, I returned to the same position, breathing hard with an unbelievable look at nothing before me.

"We need to confirm!" Athena's voice charged me further as i'd hung the arrow like a bag.

Hastily, I reached for the window only to get startled by the grave height.

How the fuck did he jump off this building.

"Can you?"

Athena didn't answer me as she'd pulled me to jump off, steadying me to land smoothly without morphing.

But then, we saw no trace of me after landing at the g
arden from where we'd fall from.

"Can you smell him?" I asked, wanting to doubt that our suspicion was wrong and that it can never be him.

No she can't.
