Chapter 178 Searching for Evidence
Chapter 178 Searching for Evidence
Ethan took the vial from Monica's hand and said, "Relax, I've done this experiment before. Let's nail it."
"Alright."
Sure enough, the development of the new drug was a huge success.
After fifteen injections, Eugene was able to retain long-term memories.
"Monica, you've worked so hard all these years."
The moment Eugene woke up, he recognized Monica. His gaze drifted to her slightly rounded belly and then to Ethan.
Brandon immediately stepped forward, standing close to Monica.
Only then did Eugene's gaze shift to Brandon, and he nodded slightly.
Monica could see right through Brandon's little schemes. His thoughts were written all over his face. She reached out and pinched his waist.
Eugene coughed lightly and then said softly, "Monica, come here. I want to have a private word with you."
Before Brandon could react, Ethan tugged at his shirt from behind.
Brandon raised an eyebrow and pointed at himself, "I can't listen too?"
Seeing Eugene remain silent, Brandon reluctantly touched his nose and followed Ethan out of the room.
Ethan stood silently outside the room, not leaving. Brandon crossed his arms and leaned against the door, taunting, "Mr. Kennedy, what's yours is yours. Don't go imagining things."
Ethan shook his head slightly, "Don't always think of Monica as your possession. You should love her and help her achieve her dreams. If you keep thinking this way, one day you'll lose her."
Brandon clenched his fists at Ethan's words.
Ethan gestured towards the room with his eyes and mouthed to Brandon, "What, you want to fight here?"
Brandon grabbed Ethan's collar, "Stop showing up around Monica, pretending to be her mentor just to get close to her. Once Monica has the baby, I'll keep her at the Robinson Mansion, and she won't go out to see anyone!"
Brandon's domineering attitude made Ethan snap. He grabbed Brandon's collar in return, "I advise you not to do that, or even think about it!"
"Monica has exceptional talent in the medical field. No one should bury her potential."
"Trust me, what Monica and Mr. Mellon are discussing inside has nothing to do with your plans."
"So if you're just looking for a housewife, I suggest you give up on Monica!"
"Because with me, she can always be herself."
"What are you two doing?"
Monica pushed open the door and found Brandon and Ethan looking like two wolves ready to tear each other apart.
"Nothing."
Brandon let go of Ethan's collar, quickly tidied himself up, and asked softly, "What did your grandpa say that needed to be kept from us?"
Monica opened her palm, revealing a folded piece of paper.
Brandon didn't reach for it.
Monica said, "This is all the ancient formulas Grandpa could remember, which were the key to the Mellon Company's dominance in the pharmaceutical industry. He also told me a huge secret, and I need to find some things."
"I'll go with you."
Brandon didn't ask any questions and followed Monica.
Ethan stepped back and nodded to Monica, "If you need anything, just let me know. By the way, I read the paper you submitted this week. It's excellent. For the authorship, you can put your name first, no need to include mine."
"Really? Mr. Kennedy!"
"Absolutely," Ethan smiled. "Do you think I need those two papers? With this one and the previous one published in The Lancet, you have enough to apply for your title. All the hospitals under the Kennedy Group would be thrilled to have you."
Brandon immediately protested, "The Robinson family has hospitals too. Why go far?"
Ethan looked at Monica with earnest eyes.
Monica pondered for a moment and clenched the paper in her hand, "Let's not rush this, Mr. Kennedy. After I publish my work, I need to seek justice for my grandfather. Once that's done, I'll consider my career."
"You're really planning to work?" Brandon said in surprise, "You're pregnant, over four months now. Wouldn't it be better to stay home and prepare for the baby?"
Monica shook her head, "Brandon, I'm making my stance clear. I hope you think seriously about it. After avenging my grandfather, I want to restart the Mellon Company."
"I might not go to the Kennedy Hospital or the Robinson Hospital. We could have our own Mellon Company."
"So with such dreams, I won't stay home just to prepare for the baby."
"Being pregnant doesn't change anything. I'm healthy, and the baby is calm. As long as my body allows, I believe I have the right to make any decision."
Seeing Monica's firm attitude and Ethan's watchful eyes, Brandon swallowed his words.
In the past, he might have asked his mother to persuade Monica, but since the incident with Seraphina, Angelina's standing with Monica had plummeted.
Brandon didn't want to disrupt the fragile harmony they had restored, so he had to accept it.
Monica sat in the car and pulled out her phone, giving the driver an address.
Brandon frowned slightly, "You mean the house at the end of Flower Lane is your old family home?"
"Yes."
"Really?"
"Why?"
Monica asked in surprise.
Brandon pointed to the address on the map, "My father bought that house at auction years ago and gave it to me as a coming-of-age gift."
"What? Did you touch anything inside?"
Brandon shook his head, "I was busy with school, so even though it was given to me, I didn't have time to live there. Plus, Flower Lane was far from my college, so I had people maintain it regularly. The furniture and decor haven't been changed."
"That's great!"
What a coincidence.
Brandon was also taken aback. Maybe their fates had been intertwined long ago.
"Yes, with these things, let's see how Henry can still be arrogant."
"Actually, with one word from me, I could make the Evans family disappear from Maplewood City. Why go through all this trouble?"
"No, you don't understand."
Monica unfolded the package in her hand, revealing a voice recorder and contracts with Henry's fingerprints and signature from when he bought counterfeit and substandard medicinal materials.
"Back then, Henry cried and begged my grandfather, saying my mom had just given birth to me and was in poor health."
"If he went to jail, we'd be left alone."
"It would affect my future and career. My grandfather thought of all this and took the fall for Henry without hesitation."
"Little did he know, Henry's goal was to get my grandfather away from my mom and seize their business."
