Chapter 179 Fate

Chapter 179 Fate

Monica continued, "After he got the property, Laura and Paula moved into the villa real quick."

"My mom went from being a normal person to someone who was always sick, sometimes even bedridden."

"For years, it was just me and my mom trying to make ends meet. Sometimes the money we made wasn't even enough to cover her meds for a month."

"I went through a lot when I was young, selling popsicles by the roadside in the summer and gloves in the winter... But I shouldn't have had to live like that. My mom shouldn't have had to..."

"Alright, that's enough."

Brandon pulled Monica into his arms. "Why didn't you tell me all this before? If the Evans family did such terrible things to you, I was way too lenient with them before. This time, I'll make sure they all end up in jail!"

"I'm not looking for revenge; I just want them to face justice."

"And I want to clear my grandfather's name. He spent his life as a doctor, saving countless lives. I don't want him to carry a bad reputation and die with regrets."

"Okay."

Brandon took out his phone and immediately called his assistant. He quickly arranged for the media and whistleblowers, and the recordings were swiftly uploaded online.

At first, no one paid much attention, but when Brandon liked the post, and then the president of the Kennedy Group shared the news, it caught the public's eye. This was like a stamp of authenticity from two major corporations.

People soon recognized from the recordings that the person involved was Henry, the president of the Evans Company, and it also revealed the truth about Eugene serving a 20-year prison sentence for him.

Some people who had benefited from Eugene's kindness still remembered how he was sentenced to 20 years for a fake drug case.

They had been too scared to speak up back then, but now that the truth was out, they felt ashamed and their hatred for Henry grew.

Within two hours, a crowd had gathered outside Henry's villa, and even the police who came to arrest him couldn't push through the throng.

"You heartless man! You ruined the quality standards of the entire pharmaceutical industry, selling us fake and ineffective drugs at high prices!"

"No wonder the medicine from the Mellon Company never worked for my mother. I thought Mr. Mellon was the fraud, but it was you all along!"

"I heard Henry used to be Mr. Mellon's son-in-law."

"Really? But isn't his wife's last name Perez?"

The crowd quickly exchanged information, piecing together the truth: Henry had taken over the Mellon family's property, abused his ex-wife, and even had a child with his mistress who was older than his legitimate child. This made everyone despise him even more.

When Henry emerged from the villa, he was already filthy, pelted with rotten eggs and vegetables by the crowd.

Even the police escorting him were caught in the crossfire and twisted his arm in frustration.

Henry had no defense against the overwhelming evidence. He was beaten and had nothing to say.

Only Paula was defiant.

She stood on the second floor of the villa, shouting through a megaphone, "Henry did those bad things, not me! It has nothing to do with me!"

"Stop causing trouble at our door!"

"I'm a legal citizen and have the right to call the police to protect my safety! Stop slandering me; I'm Henry's legitimate wife!"

"As for that dead woman Kathie, she was the mistress!"

Paula's words prompted the crowd to start live streaming, sharing videos of Henry and Kathie's wedding.

Paula's relatives showed up too, spilling the beans that before she hooked up with Henry, she had worked as a prostitute for two years, using her charm to seduce him.

Some of her old clients even had photos of her from the brothel. Paula was quickly cornered by public opinion and couldn't act all high and mighty anymore.

The hitmen Laura had hired backed off as things got heated. The Evans family was going down, and finishing the job wouldn't do them any good.

Plus, when they found out their target was the wife of the Robinson Group's president, they freaked out. They split the $50,000 and deleted Laura's contact info.

"What are you doing? I'm not leaving! This is my home! How can you take it away?"

"Ms. Evans, please cooperate. This property doesn't belong to your father or mother; it belongs to Mr. Mellon."

"Impossible! I was born here; this is my home!"

"Do you have the property deed? Your father's deed is forged. We have records and evidence from the housing authority: this house was a wedding gift from Mr. Mellon to his daughter Kathie Mellon, and it should be inherited by Kathie's daughter, Monica Evans. It has nothing to do with you."

"How can it not? Monica is my sister!"

"Sorry, legally, even if she's your sister, you can't live here without her permission."

"I'm sick! Are you going to throw me out? I'm already so pitiful; can't you just let me stay?"

Laura tried to use her tears again, but the court staff were done with her.

After inventorying the house, two female staff members grabbed her arms and dragged her outside.

"We're just doing our job. If you want to stay, you need your sister's permission. We're only here to remove you."

Then, they locked the house, and Brandon even posted two bodyguards at the door to keep Laura from sneaking back in.

Laura looked at her belongings scattered on the ground and cried, "Monica, you'll never have a good life!"

Brandon stepped out of his Maybach, looking down at Laura with disdain.

"Take this crazy woman to where she belongs. Don't let her embarrass herself at my wife's house."

Before Laura could plead or curse, two bodyguards grabbed her, one covering her mouth, and quickly dragged her to a car.

The court staff pretended not to see, driving away. Family matters were hard to judge, and since no one called the police, there was no danger.

Monica stood in front of her house, tears streaming down her face as she looked at the home Henry had occupied for over twenty years.

"Why are you crying, Monica? This is just reclaiming what's rightfully yours. Henry did terrible things, but it's a shame you didn't meet me sooner," Brandon said bluntly.

Monica turned to look at Brandon. "How much sooner? Three years ago? If you hadn't been in a coma, would you have even looked at me?"

Brandon raised an eyebrow, staying silent. He knew if he told the truth, Monica would walk away.

He rubbed his nose and then pulled Monica close. "Alright, let's not talk about the past. You're about to be a mom; stop arguing with me."

Monica wrapped her arms around Brandon's waist, resting her cheek on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

"Brandon, I feel like you've changed a lot. Do you really love me now?"

"Actually, the first time I came to Maplewood City, I passed by this street."

Brandon's voice mingled with the rustling of the old tree at the end of the street.

"I had just returned from abroad and saw the eaves of this house. I told the driver, 'This is what Maplewood City should look like.' I never thought I'd become its owner."
