CHAPTER FORTY NINE
Anya's POV.
The past two days had been a roller coaster for me as I opened my eyes, the morning light, was peaceful, been a while a had had a peaceful morning filled the much light, the holdings had been almost dark, and light filtered in through that only window, I sit up as birds chirped by the window, their music, something I realized I had heard in such a long time when my heart lurched down.
"I'm still here, they haven't come to get me." I said to myself upon the realization that I was still in the room, looking around the equipment, "This is Damian's room." I recalled on seeing some of his things, "He must have taken it upon himself to watch over me." I muttered, pulling myself into the sheet snugly when the door opened, Susanne came in with a tray of food, a smile on her face that turned upside down on seeing me laying on the bed.
"This is bad, I have to do something about it," I muttered to myself, pulling the sheets from my body.
"You don't have to move out." Susanne answered, her tone, venomous, "I also heard about your incident." She continued, walking towards a table where she kept the tray of food.
"Yeah." I replied, "I think your exposing me has made almost everyone in the pack wish me dead." I continued, my eyes not leaving her as she strolled towards me.
"You're dying so easily, I don't think so." She said, sitting on a chair by the bed, "I find it desperately tiring that you always come back, no matter how I try to put you down, you always find a way to dodge my pitfalls." She said, her hands under her jaw as she spoke, her eyes fiery.
"I don't think they would have let me die so easily." I replied to her, controlling myself as I still had the nerve bracelet on me, "I don't mean to cause any trouble for the boys if that's what you're talking about." I continued, feeling the tightness of the bracelet against my wrist.
"That's not what I'm talking about Anya." She replied with a chuckle, "You'd be going back to that prison where you'd rot forever in there." She leaned forward, gazing into my eyes, a battle of wills.
"I recall you saying the same stuff a while back," I said, my eyes not leaving her as we still engaged in our battle of wills, batted eyelids but eyes never leaving the other.
"Ha!" She cackled, taking her eyes from mine, "It's still the same, your head will belong to the people, and Damian would be all mine." She said with a tone of finality, sparks in her eyes like a general whose faith in his battle tactics would win him the war.
"Damian was never yours, to begin with." I spat back, my emotions hitting the roof, my muscles tense as I sat up, a bout of dizziness hit me, making me slump back into the bed.
"Eat up, dear Anya." She said with a sly smile, "You still have a death sentence to answer to." She said and stood up, then looked over the equipment, "You can't escape what I've planned for you, either your head rolls to the people or you rot in prison." She continued, turning to leave the room.
"You're not the one to decide my fate," I answered as she got to the door.
"We'll see about that, we'll see about that, Anya." She repeated, then left, closing the door silently, I sighed as she left, all my tense muscles relaxing, the nerve bracelet hadn't detected anything from me to numb me.
Turning towards the food she had left for before she left, "Probably for Damian." I muttered my lips salivating as I watched vapor escape the food to show how hot it was, the aroma, nice and enticing, I step out of the bed, the tray hot to my palms as I sat back on the bed, staring at the plate of parboiled rice with chicken soup, I poured some soup into the rice, delving into it like I hadn't eaten in a long while, which I hadn't, just not properly, the good too delicious to my tummy I began to feel nauseous. I dropped the plate bag on the chair while I pinched up my nose to stop myself from gagging and emptying the new content I had just placed into my stomach.
Unable to hold myself up, I pour out the contents of my stomach, retching uncontrollably, I couldn't tell if it was the food I had just eaten, or if I had eaten more than that, just as Damian came into the room, his face scrunching up on seeing the mess I had made.
"What the fuck happened?" He asked if I could hear the tremors in his voice, "Are you ok?" He asked again, as he held me up, taking me by my hands, he began to lead me to the bathroom.
"Yeah, I'm fine, Just feeling nauseous," I answered, feeling tired from expunging the food I had just eaten, I followed him like a sheep till we got to the bathroom where he held me to the shower, turning on the showered until it was warm, he rolled up his sleeves and moved me under the shower, the warm water dripping over my clothes and skin, washing the scum of the vomit away, the clothes hanging on to my skin.
"Are you ok now?" He asked again, bringing me out when he felt I was clean enough, and dragging a towel he draped it over me.
"Yeah, I'm fine now," I answered, my wet hair obstructing my view.
"Wait here, I'm coming." He said, leaving me in the bathroom, I pulled off the clothes I was wearing, wrapping the towel over me just as he came in.
"Take this." He said, offering me a jogger and a round neck top, he must have gone to get them for me when he had asked me to wait for him in the bathroom, "I'll be waiting for you in the room." He continued, leaving me in the bathroom where I changed into the clothes he had given me, I came out to him cleaning the room, you shouldn't be doing this." I said, hoping he would call someone to do it.
"It's fine." He replied, "I'm almost done if you noticed." He continued, wiping his brows with his arms.
"Fine." I said, dropping back into bed, "You would have to call the doctor to come do another round of checks on me." I continued, dipping and rolling my hands around my stomach, the pains lessened.
"No, you wouldn't need that." He answered from the floor where he was cleaning up my business.
"Why so?" I asked him, raising my head from the pillow.
"It's nothing, he just doesn't have to be here, you had eaten past your limits and your stomach rejected the food, that's all." He said it, almost convincingly.
"You sure?" I asked, and he nodded, "Cause this feels awkward." I said, still rubbing my stomach, "Never knew something so delicious would be making me throw up even the little I had had during my little jail term." I mentioned this in a bid to show my own reasoning.
"You're ok." He answered me, "The doctor had told me it might happen during your recovery period, so it's nothing to worry about." He continued, standing up from what he was cleaning, he was done and the place was sparkling, I put my head back to the pillow.
"Yeah, right," I answered, turning my face to the ceiling of the room while he went to dispose of what he had used to clean up the place, whatever he was hiding, he would reveal soon enough.
