CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT

Damian's POV

A week had gone by, there was no conclusive reasoning between us and the elders in the pack towards what could be done, Daemon had been fighting nonstop, delaying them whatever way he could.

"Move out of the way." A male medical practitioner called out, noticing who it was from the flying white coat he was wearing, almost pushing me out of the room.

"What could be happening?" I said to myself, turning towards the direction, when some orderlies came running along, still in the same direction, I grabbed onto one before he could move away from him, "What's happening?" I asked, concerned by the fact that they all moved like it was very urgent, and needed to be sorted out immediately.

"I don't know for now." He answered, I tightened my grip against his arm, the lines on his face turning to fear, "I only know that we got a call that the Luna......" He stopped short, afraid of using the wrong word while searching my face for any reaction, "Sorry, Anya had lost consciousness and maybe, clearly losing her life at the moment." He continued, I let go of him, surprised by the news.

"And what are you doing still standing?" I asked my question, startling him, "We should be on our way." I said, growling as I pushed the nurse forward, "Lead the way." I continued with all urgency pouring through my voice.

"Yes.....yes Master Daemon." He said, stuttering, as he turned, almost breaking to a run when I held him, he turned to look at me with surprise.

"Let's get a stretcher first," I said, he nodded, another thought running through my head as we got the stretcher, rolling it to the cell holding.

"Someone get a stretcher." I could hear the doctor say just as we got closer to the cell.

"We've got one." The nurse with me answered

"What are you trying to do?" The warden in charge asked the doctor, his face scrunched up in worry.

"I'm not trying to do anything or take your prisoner away from you." The doctor answered, just as we arrived with the stretcher, he turned towards me, he nodded in greeting, the rest a bow, "She just can't be treated in this situation and needs to be taken somewhere better to be taken properly care of." He continued.

"She can't be taken from her doctor." The warden tried to argue, his voice toned with worry.

"She won't be escaping, she'll be kept under lock and key with me, in my room and under my constant watch," I said, trying to avail whatever thought the warden was having at the moment.

"But." He tried to counter.

"But nothing." I interrupted, "She'll be taken to my room and placed under proper treatment and when she finds fit to continue her punishment, she'll be brought back." I continued, trying to keep my face straight as I said the words, the warden's eyes staring at me, then at the doctor, and back to me.

"Place her on the stretcher." The doctor ordered his orderlies without waiting for the warden's instructions, taking my word superior over his.

"To my room," I said, the doctor nodded, then called out to them, leading the way as they rolled her quickly away from the cells.

"You better know what you're doing, Damian." The warden said, his tone gruff to my ears, I matched him, face to face, a deadly stare in my eyes.

"It's Master Damian to you." I growled, "And, she'll be in my charge until whenever, you can take it up to the council if you want." I said and turned away from him.

"You don't want to be on the wrong end of the decision you made." He called out just as I exited the holding, "Trust me, Damian." I turn towards him, "Master Damian." He corrected himself. I walked away to my room where I had ordered the doctor to take her, she was lying on my bed, her face looking pale, almost like she was gone.

"Can't you be a bit faster?" I asked the doctor, my hands jittery seeing as they brought in medical supplies and equipment to my room.

"We are trying our best, it would have been better if we had taken her to the medical bay, but you have specifically ordered us to take her to your room." The doctor replied as he placed her on IV, the orderlies, and nurses strapped her to other devices, the monitor beeping according to her heartbeat, "Took quite a while to bring the equipment here. He continued.

"I understand." I said with a sigh, still looking at the monitor as it beeped, at least it gave me some hope she was alive, when some nurses took some test tubes away with blood in them with them, "What's that for?" I asked the doctor.

"We want to test her for anything." He answered that the results would be back in a while, he said, picking up a clip file, "I'll be back with the results in a while." He said, then turned away, leaving me to the beeping sound of the machine, I walked out of the room, unable to look at her as she lay on the bed.

"What's wrong with her?" I asked just as the doctor came out a while after, I followed him, as he entered the room, disturbing for a while when she woke up, I had to keep her calm while the doctor and his nurses performed whatever they needed to do. The doctor called me out to speak to me.

"I have a piece of the necessary information I have to tell you." He said, his eyes scanning the room like it was meant to be a secret.

"Spill it out already." I said, eager to hear whatever it was, as long as I could help out, I was ready to do anything, he looked at me for a while, taking a deep breath, "Come one, spill it out already." I almost yelled out, he took one last look around and walked closer to me.

"In one of the tests we took, we had taken some amniotic fluid from her system." He answered, his eyes still turning around to check for people coming.

"And what does that mean?" I asked, the term, new to my vocabulary.

"Ms. Anya is pregnant." He said outrightly, more like whispered to my ear, I stood still, petrified by the news, happiness flooded my system, I was happy, didn't matter whose child it was, it could be very much be mine as I undoubtedly thought I was the last one to have spent time with her, the happiness crashing down as I remember the position she was in, the child would be dead, along with the mother, my mouth twitched, I couldn't tell if I could cry or laugh, "And she has been really worked out by staying unchecked, the prison has taken its own toll on her, she has to be careful at this stage." He continued, then moved away from me, "That would be all." He said, then left me alone in the passageway.

"What are you doing?" I asked Anya on entering inside, she had sat up, leaning on the headrest of the bed, "I go out a bit longer than expected and you try to do something stressful to yourself." I complain as I walk closer to her.

"I am fine." She said, balancing herself rightly, her sunken eyes and pale skin showing more.

"No, this is not fine." I said on seeing her features, a storm brewing within me, "You aren't and I need to get you out of those cells." I continued, clenching my fist as I spoke.

"Anya." Daemon called as he gatecrashed into my room, closing the door immediately, "Anya." He called again, pushing me out of the way, "Are you alright? What happened? Have the doctors checked you?" He began to bombard her with questions before he was even close to her.

"I'm fine." She answered with a toothy grin, he held her hands in his, his face warm on seeing her out.

"I'm not sure about that." He said, still checking her over.

"She's ok," I answered, still standing where I was shoved to.

"And you didn't tell me what had happened?" Daemon asked, his eyes still roving around her.

"The situation was dire and needed immediate action," I answered, folding my hands across my chest.

"I see." He answered, "You look very pale, you haven't been eating well?" He turned his questions back to Anya, she smiled before she answered.

"It's a prison, they're not meant to be giving you the best of food." She answered, then laid back, Daemon let go of her hand, letting her lie well on the bed.

"She'll be alright, right?" Daemon asked again, the question this time I know, directed to me.

"Yes.x I answered, "The doctor had said she needed to rest." I continued.

"Then we should leave her to rest," Daemon replied almost as I had finished speaking, dragging me out by the hand of my room.

"But, this is my room." I tried to complain, all landing on deaf ears as Daemon pulled me out, Anya gave a smile as we left.

"See you later, keep good watch over her," Daemon said as we came out of the room, closing the door, I nodded my head, then turned to watch him leave, leaving me with important information.
