CHAPTER THIRTY NINE
Daemon's POV.
I walk down to my father's private study, feeling very awkward for calling him my father as I opened the door, the room looking exquisite, the polished ultra large mahagonay table in a large semicircled-room, polished to a sheen by servants who had been made to clean his study, the bookshelf taking almost one-quarter of the room as it span the room from door to door in the same semicircle fashion, raised from the floor to the ceiling, the books kept exceptionally neat.
"Must have read a lot." I mutter to myself as I look at the scale of books present, my eyes catching the bookshelf at the back of his chair, kingly looking, draped in expensive materials and padded for comfort, in contrast to the bookshelf, looking almost separate from the rest of of the bookshelf, like it was the starting point to continue the rest of the bookshelf, covered in glass. I walk towards it, standing behind the chair, staring at the glass until in notice the inscriptions on it, 'Only for the Alpha." It read, my lips mouthing the words, my fingers reaching to feel it when the voice of someone calling me kept it in place.
"Daemon! You're here too?" The voice asked, I turn towards the person.
"Damian." I muttered, "Yes, I'm here, What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"I really don't know, he replied, "Maybe, I wanted to see something of the old man.
"Considering how we both hated him, funny how we turn towards him when everything is going off the line." I said with a chuckle.
"Doesn't make much of a difference." Damian replied, his gaze fixated on the huge chair in front of him, "My hatred for him still stands." He continued with gritted teeth.
"Well, you still came here and it very well hits me as one of the unbelievable in this era." I replied him, walking away from the shelf towards him.
"I haven't been able to sleep, considering what those councilmen decided to do to us." He said, placing his hands into the pockets of the trousers he wore, plain designers, complimented by a white long sleeved shirt on his body, folded by the sleeves halfway up his forearm.
"Yeah, me too." I echoed after him, "That's where most of my thinking was or were." I continued, standing shoulder to shoulder with him, facing the chair behind the huge mahogany table, with all of it exquisiteness, "And what did you come up with as a solution?" I asked him. He had hardly began to answer when the doors of the study flew open, Mr Ethan walking towards us, we turn to face him.
"Heard I would find the both of you inside." He began by saying.
"And what brings such hurried attention to us, I thought the council never need our attention?" I asked with a little twitch by the corner of my lips.
"Not the council, my boy, but the pack, from the new rumours being spread around." He answered me.
"What other rumour need to be spread around? Aren't they done already?" Damian asked defiantly, anger staining his tone, "They've asked us to prove them wrong, we have no prove, while spread new one? I don't think I need to " He continued, turning around to back Mr Ethan.
"And what would that be, Mr Ethan?" I inquired.
"There's a new one spreading around, that the Luna had a hand in killing your father." He answered, he eyes fixed on me, I could hear Damian's breath still.
"That's not possible." Damian answered, turning around to face Mr Ethan, "He was too strong to be killed by her."
"Same thing I would say." Mr Ethan replied.
"Then, what was the loophole?" I asked Mr Ethan.
"The Alpha had made her his favorite, it's very possible she might have been poisoning him, but slowly so the effects are not immediately noticed to be called a poisoning." Mr Ethan explained.
"You can't tell me the doctor didn't notice this in his system and informed the clan." Damian countered.
"It's very possible the doctors would not notice it either." Mr Ethan explained, "That's mostly the primary means of getting to the alpha, and it could possibly pass through her serving him his food." He explained, more like guessed.
"All this are accusations we aren't sure of, it's very possible that the doctors in charge of him could still be the one to initiate the poisoning." Damian interrupted, his face, a mask of worry.
"If it was the doctors, it wouldn't be possible, because they came after he was becoming ill, since it's a rumuor, then, that's all it is, Damian." Mr Ethan spoke, "But, if I can recall, there was one about the both of you having an affair or affairs with your stepmother, despite all your attempts to make it remain in the dark, it's almost in the light as the truth, I'll still take this with a pinch of salt as the head Beta of this clan as it is my duty to keep the pack in check until a new alpha or alphas are in place." He continued.
"I understand what you're trying to imply, Mr Ethan." I answered before Damian would be having any extra thought to debunk him, "We will confirm with the Luna to know if this is just rumours or the truth." I continued.
"That will very much be in place." Mr Ethan, replied, "I'll go take my round in the pack to make sure they're calm towards the matter."
"That will very well suffice for now." I said, just as he turned away from us as he spoke, leaving us again in the silence of the private study.
"Don't tell me you believe this crap of a thing?" Damian turned towards me, the question engraved on his face.
"That's what we will be going to find out." I said, walking away from him.
"I see." He said, walking behind me. We walked in silence towards Anya's room, I raced my hands to knock, the door caving inward to open as my knuckles connected to the hardwood.
"Anya." I called out as we stepped into the room, scattered with a bag on the bed.
"She's not inside." Damian said.
"I know, I can see that."
"Don't tell me she tried to run away again." Damian said on seeing the bag.
"Let's not count on that." I replied, shape shifting my nose to a wolf's, I took it the scent of the bag, sniffing in the direction it took me, we both walked until we get to the bathroom. She sat huddled in a corner, naked, her tub, soaked with blood, her brush, blood stained, her face tear stricken.
"What have you done to yourself?" Damian asked, immediately moving into action, taking a towel and wrapping around her, he picked her up like a baby, taking her away from the bathroom, I switch on the tap, washing away the blood, probably most of it, before leaving the bathroom.
"I'm sorry." She kept on repeating, clinging on to Damian, I stood, the words I had planned to ask, stuck in my throat.
"Sorry about what?" Damian asked, his hands brushing against her hair, "There's nothing you would do that we wouldn't forgive, right?" He said, turning to my direction.
"Ye......ye...... Yes." I stuttered, nodding my head in the process.
"I have something important I need to tell the both of you." She said, pushing herself away from Damian, her head lowered, hair scattered across her face.
