CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT

Anya's POV

I close the door to the boys, listening to their receding footsteps.

"This is bad." I mutter as I walk towards my bed, "I should have left long ago." I muttered, continuing in my monologue, my hands rubbing across my face, brushing my hair, I blew hard into the space before me, my body still aching from the activity we had in the cave.

"Why did the Moon goddess have to let this happen?" I asked no one in particular, dropping onto my bed, then turning from one side to another until it became an angry toss like that of a stormy sea.

"Argh!" I scream into my pillow to muffle the sound, my little tantrum, a more than enough exercise as my chest continues to heave according to my hard breaths, "Why do you make bad things happen to me?" I asked, wagging my fingers accusingly into the air to an imaginary Moon goddess standing before me as I began to sob, "What should I do now?" I continued to barrage her with questions, "I'm tired of this." I said, raising myself to a sitting position, "It's time I left the clan, it would be better for everyone." I muttered, standing up and moving away from the bed, I moved towards my wardrobe, packing in the necessary things, a few too, a few trousers, some shirts, one or two gowns, some shoes, "I was starting anew, not opening a boutique." I muttered to myself, watching the clock chime its way to midnight, then I set out, the moon sliver hidden by a cloud, enough to cover me as I sneaked out of the pack house.

"It will be over soon." I repeated to myself as I passed some of the guard checkpoints undetected, "It would cause less damage if I wasn't found, all decisions made by the council members will be revoked, and one of my greatest desires, me leaving the pack would be fulfilled." I thought to myself as I reached the gate.

"I spy with my little eyes, the Luna outside the gate at midnight." I heard a little voice say, I stop in my track, turning my direction to the sound of the voice, a silhouette of someone in the shadows, poised elegantly like a king Cobra about to strike.

"Who's there?" I call out, treading carefully to where the person was, the voice cackled out, almost like a call for help as I scanned the environment, hoping no one heard the person laugh out so loudly, I stop, just as the person began to emerge from the shadows, her gown very skimpy to be called a gown, translucent in the darkness.

"Well Luna, I hope it's what you like." She said as my face became obvious to me.

"Susanne!" I exclaim in exasperation, "What are you doing here?" I ask, shock ruling over my face on seeing her.

"No, Luna, the right question would be, what are you doing out here." She responded, flicking her own question to me, maintaining a distance from me, she began to pace, "The Luna of this mighty clan found sneaking around in the night, what's she about to do? Where's she going? Who's she going to see?" She continued, firing rounds of questions at me that she found she never really wanted the answers to at the moment.

"I don't think that would be any of your business where I go to or who I hang out with," I replied, trying to hide the little luggage I carried from her sight, a late move as she smiled on seeing my action.

"I see what's going on now." She said, walking around me as she spoke, "Planning on leaving the pack house, I see." She hummed as she spoke, "Where did you think you could be able to run to before coming to find you?" She asked.

"They wouldn't be needing to find me." I replied, keeping my face as stern as possible, "I'm not needed, not even a member of the pack, they would consider it a gift." I continued, holding on to the bag a bit tightly.

"You seem so sure of yourself." She said, and then smiled, the moon shining faintly on both of us, I nodded to her deduction, "Well, I'll say quite the opposite." She continued.

"What do you mean by that?" I questioned, unable to comprehend the statement she had made.

"They would surely come for you when they notice your crime." She said firmly.

"I have no crime," I answered confidently, raising my shoulders high to show my superiority.

"That's what they all say when they aren't caught." She replied, stopping her movement just in front of me, "Imagine what they would do when they find out their beloved Luna refused to debunk the allegations about her having affairs with her stepsons and decided to run away from the pack." She continued.

"There's not much of an imagination there." I answered her, "They would freely let me go."

"You don't get it yet, Anya, if I may call you that." She said, calling me by my name as she moved close to me, running her fingers around me.

"What else must she have on me to be able to call me by my name?" I asked myself inwardly, watching her from the corner of my eyes till she stood in front of me.

"Everyone believes the Alpha died of natural causes, he was old, and lived for quite a few centuries, but powerful men like that don't just give up the ghost on the sick bed, she began to say, my body stiffening to her words, she smiled on seeing the way I acted, "Now you get what I say." She said with a smile.

"What do you want?" I asked her, my body pinned to the ground by the realization that my actions had been unraveled.

"First of all, you aren't to leave this house, You'll go back to your quarters." She wrung her hands as she spoke.

"If there's a first, what are the other things you need?" I asked her, turning to move back to the house.

"The rest would come after." She said with a sly smile, disappearing into the shadows just as she had come.

"How will I know if you decide not to tell me?" I said to myself, twisting my way back to my room through the checkpoints steadily, overhearing guards talk about a new round taking its turn in the house, I didn't mind, as long as the twins weren't involved, that was the most reason I wanted to leave after I was done with my self imposed mission to kill their alpha. I walk back to my room, expecting the worst
