Chapter 69 - Tension
Fiona's POV.
I walked to the dining to meet up with Devan who was already there seated and waiting for me for breakfast. Nothing thrilled me more than seeing him serve the dish himself. He was so good at it these days, especially since my return to the premises after the birthday party saga.
I met him placing the chicken lap on the tray which was right in front of my seat.
“Are you kidding me right now?” I asked, walking down in smiles to his point.
“Uhu? You shouldn't be surprised at all.” He said, giving me a long stare and smiled at me. He acted like a gentleman would and moved the chair back so I leaned in perfectly.
“Thanks, sweetheart.”
“You're welcome, baby.”
He sat now and began the feasting. He loved the turkey so much as compared to the chicken. I never knew why but at least I had my spec, I was a fan of the beef and chicken instead.
“So, what are you up to for the day?” He asked, holding a lump of meat in his hands about to dig in.”
“Well, I have no idea,'' I said feeling confused and never wanting to observe that at all. At least he would be sure I would go out today, but to see Jeremy instead.
“I may be out though, to the mall perhaps, or the grocery with some of my maids, I'm sure Helene and Margaret would be ready after now.”
“You told them?”
“Do I need to?” I asked to take a quick sip from my glass of wine already filled.
“Honey, you know I wouldn't want to have you stressed, I already informed Christo to take Margaret down to the cold room to get some fish, Margret complained the storehouse was running dry as you know how important I take their storerooms.”
“Oh, yeah, that's true. That means I'll have to go with Helene alone?”
“Yes my Luna, maybe If you don't want Margaret, I'll relieve her of the duty and have someone else sent.”
“No, don't bother Devan, I understand, I just need to…”
We both watched Susan walk sluggishly into the dining room to join us at breakfast. I stared at her closely and she did the same. It was almost like she was scared of even coming so close to my point. She sat now and kept a close look at her plate of food which was already covered and kept waiting for her.
“You're late again today, it seems you slept late last night”? Devan asked, turning to her and his food consecutively.
“Oh, brother, I didn't sleep last night, I was just stressed out from yesterday, I felt so tired.” She replied holding her fork and knife now.
“Hmm, I see, where did you go yesterday? What did you do that made you so tired?”
He inquired further.
She smiled now trying not to look desperate but knew she needed to tender answers to her big brother.
“I went out with my best friend Calli, we were at the park.”
I saw the tension drawing in her eyes and the anxiety that clouded her wasn't anywhere close to being hidden. I just hoped she hadn't gone to do any further research on me or perhaps found anything secret about me, because she kept a close gaze at me like she wanted to have an interrogative session with me on something so important, yes, I felt it.
“Sister, aren't you going to feast on your meal?” She asked, turning to me.
“Sure I would, it's a very delicious one you know, the cooks are doing even more than a great job lately.”
“Are you being serious? I thought I was the only one who noticed?”
Christopher came into the dining room and whispered into the ears of the Alpha, it seemed he was to leave at once to something urgent and he was almost done with his food.
“Alright, my lovelies, it's a pleasure dining with the both of you.”
“Is there a problem?” I asked.
“Problem? Not at all, I just need to be with Christo on something more important than this food itself.”
He smiled at the both of us but turned to Susan.
“Don't be late on your food again.”
They both smiled at each other as he walked out.
The battle was now between us. I could feel the tension like that of a magnet that was in between the both of us.
We Kept silent for More than two minutes before she voiced out confidently.
“Funny how some idiots tried to have you kidnapped in Hilton, what the hell were they thinking?”
“Hm, they must be out of their minds, little did they come to realize I was the Luna of the pack and the whole of DarkVille. I would have ended their lives then but I had to come back home to your brother else my absence would create more suspicions.”
“Wow, that's so thoughtful of you, Sister, I wanted to ask you something a bit private, hope you don't mind?”
I could feel it already, we hadn't outsmarted her and her friends entirely, there was still lots of work to be done, it seemed they may be edging towards the truth and that got me to work even before she said a thing.
“Sure, go ahead, what is it?”
“Well, do you think Gladys, the witch, would have anything to do with anyone in the royal court of the citadel?”
I said it, something may have gone wrong but I didn't need to showcase signs of tension or fear, it was just a matter of time before I understood.
“Well, I don't know, I just hope not.”
“Hmm, I hope not. But if actually the royal court or Citadel is found wanting and found guilty of this, what should be done to such a person?” She asked, looking directly into my eyes like she was the culprit already.
“Hm, anyone associated with the witch must be punished and would pay dearly for their act, that's an act of treason and the act of treason is punishable by law, no one could get Scot free from it, not even me.”
She smiled at me closely this time and continued in what was like the case summary for the whole session.
“Well, I found a lead on Gladys, and someone right here in the royal court has been in touch with her. I'll ask the Alpha for a briefing with the council and right there and then, I'll reveal who the person is, Sister, I've got more than just proof.”
