Chapter 70 - Screwed
Isabel’s POV.
“What do you mean they found out?”
Gladys asked while trying to rearrange the shoes on the rack.
“Gladys I’m telling you, honestly speaking she knows, they know about me,” I replied in panic as I walked from corner to corner looking so tense and confused.
“You haven’t really explained a thing to me Isabel, you have to understand that these shoes I am trying to arrange are so expensive and…”
I didn’t let her complete her statement before I lashed at her.
“Gladys, it's Susan and her gang!”
“What? What the hell do you mean by Susan and her gang? And what exactly do they know because last I checked, we were the underdogs in this so.”
“Yes, I love the words you used, Underdogs, we were but right now, we aren’t anymore.”
“What do you mean by that Fiona? Are you alright? You know how dangerous it is for our plans or intentions to be leaked.”.
“Yeah, I do, but as it is now, we need a plan before Thursday and that would be in two days when the council of elders would have a briefing on Susan’s behalf.”
“A briefing on Susan’s behalf, I mean it’s now looking even more serious than I expected, what actually happened.” She asked me to draw so close to my point to hear what I had to say.
“This morning while Devan and I had breakfast, she came in to join us at the table and you wouldn’t believe what happened.”
“Calm your nerves down baby girl, what happened? Talk to me.”
I continued. “We talked about something family-related and after that, Christopher came into the dining room and whispered to Devan's ears and he had to leave the table for the both of us.”
“And I guess that was where the main drama began?”
“Yeah, exactly, it was like she waited for his exit so she could begin.”
“Hmm, Interesting. What did she actually say?” Gladys asked, taking her seat on the couch which was a bit close to the bookshelf. She loved reading a lot.
“She talked a little about the kidnappers and the werewolves who would have such guts to take me away knowing I was Devan’s pride, we also talked about the punishment to them as well. I didn’t realize the whole thing was leading straight to her bomb-lasting end point and I answered her all along. It never occurred to me till she made mention of Your name, ‘GLADYS’”
“My name? What the fuck did she say about my name?”
“She made it clear that anyone who had anything to do with you in Darkville would be punishable by the law, she asked me if I was okay with that and you should know me by now I was very logical, not till she said she would make sure those who worked hand in hand with the witch would be dealt with and she would set a briefing through Devan with the Council of chiefs and elders of the pack, and right there expose the person. She said the person is a member of the council and also she had proof.”
“What?”
“Yes, I am serious Gladys, I am as confused as you are.”
“And you know that council, Devan would be included.”
“Not just Devan, Jeremy.”
Gladys leaned back on the chair and exhaled.
“You mean she said she has proof?” she asked, looking a bit tense now.
“Look, I know it sounds crazy. I've been trying to figure out what the proof is if it's a picture or...”
“It can't be a picture?” Gladys replied rapidly.
“What? Why did you say so?”
“I performed a ritual on myself two years ago which would send in a signal to me if I'm being photographed or videotaped unconsciously.”
“What? How is that even possible?”
“Hmm, well, I just had to since that was what actually led to my father's death years back, that's the reason why Devan and his men would never get so close to finding me.”
“Hmm.”
“So what else would be used by Susan as proof to the royal court, she doesn't have to appear before them else it is final, she was supposed to have her briefing tomorrow but died to some urgent matters on the ground, Devan postponed it to the days later.”
“Hmm, this is serious.”
“I think she might have seen me before with you somehow.”
“I'm not so sure about that, it isn't the problem, we have to think of something else that connects me, Susan, mind you it wouldn't be something that we would lay our fingers on quite easily.”
Just then Jeremy, who was out to get some households from the grocery, walked in.
“My lovelies, what's happening, Daddy's home.”
The whole place remained calm like a graveyard and we watched him stare at the both of us consecutively.
“Hey, can somebody please tell me everything's alright here in this room?”
He asked as he dropped his bag which contained some watermelon he had bought from the grocery.
“Fiona? Gladys? What's happening right here?”
We both looked at ourselves but I found it hard to speak a thing, Gladys was the one who continued from this point.
“She has very good news.”
“What? What bad news?”
“Come on birthday girl, tell him.”
I looked so confused and frustrated at the moment because I knew it would make him tense. Telling him was never the plan so it had to be…
“Jeremy, I think Susan knows about me?”
“Of course, she suspects ever since, it's. Normal, and I …”
“Jeremy it's not that, actually it's about the three of us, especially Gladys and me “
“Hmm, Gladys, why isn't she speaking words that would make sense to me?”
Gladys cut me as I tried making my explanation.
“... Jeremy, Susan has proof one of the members of the royal court is a bad egg and she seeks a briefing with the council through the Alpha tomorrow, and she made it clear to Fiona that she had proof.”
“Proof? What proof?”
“Now that's the problem.”
“Fiona was there anytime you and Susan were so close that she came to your personal belongings?” Jeremy asked.
“Hmmm, nope, personal belongings you mean?”
“Your room, your bag, your Laptop, your phone..?”
“Yes, phone. I think she had held my phone once.”
“Hmm, what did she do with it?”
“She actually wanted to give it to me because a call came through.”
“Call? What call?” Gladys asked, looking even more serious now.
“Umm…” That was when it dawned on me that she was the one who up the phone when P.SYDALG called fuck, that's it…
“Gladys, you were the one who called.”
“Ohh, I recall, it's been that shit happened, wait a second, Jeremy, are you thinking what I'm thinking?” Gladys asked.
“Hmm, I'll see, Fiona let me have your phone, what did you save the number as?”
I brought it out and showed him. Didn't take so long before he took a close look at it and decoded it.
“We're screwed, P.SYLDAG? Seriously?”
Gladys came to the spot and took a look.
“Holy fuck, there you have it Jeremy, she wasn't smart enough. That's me, GLADYS’.”
