Chapter 129

Chapter 129

Elizabeth was truly panicking now.

She had handled those transactions herself—she knew better than anyone they wouldn't hold up under scrutiny.

Once Lucas saw the original tracking pathways, she'd be finished. Completely finished.

"Lucas! Don't go!" Elizabeth screamed, lunging forward to stop him. "He's lying to you! Don't look!"

She'd barely taken a step when the two Blackwater bodyguards behind Alex moved in, pinning her arms behind her back in an iron grip.

"Let go of me! Let me go!" Elizabeth thrashed wildly, her heels scraping frantically against the tile, her hair falling into complete disarray.

The bodyguards' hands were like vices. She couldn't move an inch.

All Elizabeth could do was watch helplessly as Lucas followed Alex into the elevator.

The moment the doors slid shut, all the strength seemed to drain from her body. She went limp in the bodyguards' grasp, cold sweat soaking through her back.

Time crawled painfully slow in the deathly quiet corridor.

Scarlett watched Elizabeth pinned against the wall with cold eyes, not a trace of sympathy in them.

Sophia stood to one side, leaning on her cane, face ashen, chest heaving violently.

Less than ten minutes later, the elevator chimed open again.

Alex stepped out, composed as ever. Behind him came Lucas.

Lucas looked like a man who'd lost his soul.

His face was deathly pale, eyes bloodshot, his steps unsteady and floating.

When he raised his head and his gaze landed on Elizabeth, his expression was impossibly complex—shock, his entire worldview crumbling, and then transforming into intense disgust and rage.

Seeing him, Elizabeth grabbed at him like a drowning woman clutching at a life raft. At Alex's signal, the bodyguards released her.

Elizabeth immediately rushed forward, seizing Lucas's sleeve, her swollen face tilted up as she desperately tried to defend herself. "Lucas! Let me explain—those are all forgeries Alex made, aren't they? Don't let them fool you. I'm innocent, I'm really innocent..."

Lucas looked down at the tear-stained woman before him.

For three years, he'd treated her as the Robinson family's benefactor, as a fragile, kind-hearted victim. For her sake, he'd insulted Scarlett time and time again.

But just now, in the security room, he'd seen with his own eyes those transfers of dirty money from her accounts, seen how the tracking code ultimately locked onto Elizabeth's private computer in her Phoenix City apartment.

Lucas suddenly felt his stomach turn violently.

"Don't touch me." Lucas yanked his arm away with such force that Elizabeth stumbled backward and fell to the floor.

He looked down at her from above, his gaze like he was looking at a pile of revolting garbage. He even brushed at the sleeve she'd touched with distaste. "Elizabeth, you make me sick."

Elizabeth sat sprawled on the floor, staring up in disbelief.

She'd never seen this expression on Lucas's face before.

It was the look of someone who'd seen right through her and found her disgusting.

She realized she'd completely lost control of the situation. What little rationality remained shattered entirely.

"Alex!" Elizabeth whipped her head around, screaming hysterically at him. "What exactly did you show him! What right do you have to slander me!"

Alex looked at her coldly, pulling a tablet from his coat pocket. His fingers tapped across the screen a few times.

"Since you're still going to lie, let's make this crystal clear right here."

Alex turned the volume all the way up and hit play.

A crystal-clear phone recording echoed through the empty ICU corridor.

"The eight hundred thousand dollars has been transferred to your offshore account." In the recording, Elizabeth's voice was cold and cruel, dripping with undisguised malice—nothing like her usual fragile demeanor. "Remember, tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, the woman in the beige trench coat—run her down. Kill her. She absolutely cannot be allowed to survive."

Then came the driver's rough voice. "Ms. Perez, what if Mr. Robinson is there too? The Robinson Group's bodyguards aren't easy to deal with."

"If he's there..." The Elizabeth in the recording gave a chilling laugh, her tone bone-chilling. "Then kill him too. If he dies, I'll still get my share of the Robinson family fortune anyway. Make it clean. Make it look like an accident, a loss of control. Understand?"

The recording cut off abruptly.

Then Alex flipped the tablet around. On screen played a high-definition surveillance video. In the footage, Elizabeth sat in the corner of a run-down café in Phoenix City, wearing sunglasses and a mask, making a call on an unregistered burner phone. The timestamp matched the recording exactly.

Ironclad evidence. Irrefutable.

The corridor fell deathly silent.

Elizabeth slumped on the floor, her face ashen. The disguise she'd carefully maintained for three years had been stripped away completely in this moment, her true face exposed before everyone.

"You... you vicious snake!"

A shrill cry of rage shattered the silence.

Sophia was trembling all over, her eyes bloodshot. She never could have imagined that this woman the Robinson family had kept for three years could be this evil. Not only had she tried to kill Scarlett—she'd even wanted to murder Brandon, who'd been protecting her all along!

Sophia shoved away the butler's supporting hand and charged at Elizabeth. She raised her heavy cane with both hands and brought it down with all her strength on Elizabeth's back.

"Ahhh!" Elizabeth let out a scream and collapsed to the floor.

"I'll beat you to death, you heartless monster!" Tears streaming down her face, Sophia rained blows down on Elizabeth's back, legs, and shoulders. "Brandon risked his life to protect you! The Robinson family fed you, housed you, and you wanted him dead! You ungrateful wretch! You vicious snake!"

Elizabeth rolled on the floor in agony, hands covering her head, screaming continuously. Lucas stood to the side, fists clenched so tight his knuckles went white. Watching this scene, he didn't move to stop it. He only felt cold all over, chilled by his own stupidity over the past three years.

Scarlett watched Elizabeth on the floor quietly, not a trace of warmth in her eyes. This was the 'benefactor' Brandon had risked his life to protect.

After a dozen blows, Sophia finally ran out of strength, gasping for breath as the butler caught her.

Elizabeth lay sprawled on the floor, hair disheveled, her expensive coat covered in dust and footprints, as wretched as a stray dog.

Just when everyone thought it was over, Alex put away the tablet, his tone calm yet carrying a lethal weight.

"It's not just today's car accident." Alex looked down at Elizabeth from above, his voice echoing clearly through the corridor. "Since we were investigating anyway, I had my people look into that old case in Luminous City three years ago."

At the mention of "Luminous City," Elizabeth's whole body jerked violently. She snapped her head up, absolute terror in her eyes.

Alex took a thick manila envelope from one of the bodyguards and threw the documents inside directly at Elizabeth's feet.
