Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Alex turned his head and gave orders to the bodyguard. "Lock her in the security room. No one visits her without my permission."
"Yes, Mr. Lewis." The bodyguard's face remained expressionless as he gripped the screaming Elizabeth and prepared to drag her away.
Alex pulled out his phone and immediately dialed a top-tier private investigation team. His tone was cold and hard. "Look into this morning's car accident. Pull all surveillance footage from the surrounding area. Check the driver's bank transactions, communication records, and any recent activity in his family's offshore accounts. I want preliminary results in thirty minutes."
In the domestic capital circles, as long as you threw down enough money, there was no underground deal you couldn't uncover.
"Stop! What gives you the right to arrest anyone, Alex!" Lucas pushed himself up from the floor against the wall, his pant legs covered in dust, looking utterly pathetic.
Still delusional, he pointed at Scarlett and Alex, shouting, "Scarlett, you'd actually make up such an absurd lie just to destroy Elizabeth completely! Elizabeth doesn't even have the guts to kill a chicken—how could she dare hire someone to commit murder on the streets of Phoenix City! She saved Brandon in that car accident in Luminous City years ago. She's the Robinson family's benefactor! You're just jealous of her place in Brandon's heart, so you're conspiring with Alex to frame her!"
Lucas's eyes were full of obsession. He didn't believe it, and he refused to admit that the woman he'd defended for three years could be a viper. If Elizabeth was the killer, then what did that make all those years he'd spent suppressing and humiliating Scarlett?
"You're still protecting her?" Scarlett looked at Lucas as if she were looking at a hopeless idiot.
Just then, the elevator doors opened again.
The heavy, urgent sound of a cane striking the floor echoed through the hallway.
Sophia hadn't left. She'd only gone to the VIP lounge downstairs for a quick nebulizer treatment. When she heard something had happened upstairs, she immediately had the butler help her rush back up.
The moment she stepped out of the elevator, Sophia heard Lucas's monumentally stupid remarks.
Her face turned ashen, her entire presence radiating the sharp authority of someone long accustomed to power. She strode forward and without a word, swung her heavy cane with all her strength, striking Lucas across the back.
Crack!
"Ah!" Lucas let out a wail of pain, stumbling forward from the blow.
"Grandma! Why are you hitting me!"
"I'm hitting you because you're a blind, heartless beast!" Sophia trembled with rage, pointing her cane at Lucas's nose as she cursed him out. "How did the Robinson family raise such an idiot! You've been used as someone's weapon and you don't even know it! Brandon is lying in there with a brain hemorrhage, and you're out here forcing his wife. Did a dog eat your brain!"
Lucas didn't dare fight back after being hit, but he still held onto his stubbornness. "Grandma, Scarlett is falsely accusing Elizabeth of hiring someone to commit murder—"
"Falsely accusing?" Sophia cut him off sharply. Her aged eyes swept across everyone present, her voice carrying tremendous force. "Lettie didn't falsely accuse her! Elizabeth is a cold-blooded, vicious woman!"
Sophia leaned on her cane, each sentence landing like a hammer blow on Lucas's heart. "You think that car accident in Luminous City years ago was just an accident? I've already had people investigate thoroughly. Someone tampered with Lettie's brakes—it was Elizabeth! She used one leg as bait to latch onto Brandon and trample Lettie underfoot!"
Lucas's pupils contracted sharply. He stood frozen in place. "That... that's impossible..."
"How is it impossible!" Sophia's gaze was ice-cold. "And there's the aphrodisiac at the Montague family banquet, Stella nearly drowning in the pool at Long Island Estate, and even what Lettie went through at that black clinic in Shadow City—Elizabeth's shadow is all over every single incident! She systematically drove a wedge between Brandon and Lettie, turning a perfectly good Robinson family into a complete disaster, tearing it apart! The Robinson family's chaos today—all of it was orchestrated by her!"
Sophia's words completely tore away Elizabeth's mask of false virtue.
Lucas looked like he'd been struck by lightning. His face turned deathly pale, his lips trembling, unable to utter a single word in rebuttal.
Time ticked by, second by second.
In less than twenty minutes, Alex's phone vibrated.
Alex glanced at the encrypted file that had just arrived in his inbox. A knowing coldness flashed through his eyes. He lifted his head and looked at Lucas's ashen face, then turned his phone screen around.
"The investigation results are in." Alex's voice was calm, yet carried the weight of ironclad evidence. "One hour before the accident, the driver's offshore account received an anonymous transfer of eight hundred thousand dollars. After tracing that money through layers of shell companies, the ultimate source of the funds was Elizabeth's personal offshore account."
Alex withdrew his phone and looked toward the hospital room door. "Not only that, but they also recovered a phone conversation from the driver's device. Elizabeth explicitly instructed him to run down Scarlett in her beige trench coat on the streets of Phoenix City and, incidentally, to take care of Brandon as well, making it look like an accident where the driver lost control."
The evidence was irrefutable.
Elizabeth hadn't just hired someone to deliberately murder Scarlett—when she saw Brandon was also present, she'd decided to kill him too.
The air in the corridor became suffocatingly still.
The moment Alex finished speaking, Elizabeth's face turned deathly pale.
Her body began trembling uncontrollably, but her cornered-animal instincts made her clench her back teeth, forcibly suppressing the panic in her eyes.
"You're lying!" Elizabeth suddenly raised her head, shrieking at Alex like a madwoman, turning the accusation back on him. "Alex, everyone knows there's nothing you wouldn't do for Scarlett! Forging a few offshore transfer records and audio recordings—how hard is that for you? You just want to help Scarlett get away with this by throwing mud at me!"
She turned to Lucas, tears flowing on command, crying pitifully. "Lucas, you can't believe him! They're setting me up to destroy me! How could I possibly hurt Brandon? I'd give him my life!"
Elizabeth was gambling.
She was betting that this idiot Lucas still saw her through rose-colored glasses, betting that the evidence Alex presented was just electronic files that couldn't stand up to scrutiny.
Alex looked at her utterly unrepentant performance. His eyes held no ripple of emotion, only the cold indifference of someone who saw through everything.
He didn't waste a single word arguing with Elizabeth. Instead, he turned his head to look at Lucas.
"Talk is cheap." Alex's tone was calm, yet carried undeniable authority. "Mr. Lucas Robinson, since you think I'm fabricating evidence, then come with me down to the security room. I'll let you watch with your own eyes how my hacker team traced her offshore account step by step to the original IP address. Then you can personally listen to that recording and judge for yourself whether there are any signs of audio manipulation."
Lucas stood frozen in place, his face alternating between shades of green and white.
He looked at Scarlett, then at Elizabeth with her tear-streaked face. That solid layer of trust in his heart finally cracked.
"Fine. I'll go with you." Lucas bit down hard and started walking.
