Chapter 118 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN
UNKNOWN

“Useless! Every single one of you. How have we been at this nonstop for a week and none of you can find out where we’re not getting it right?”

When next I see the High priestess, she’s going to hear just what I think about the dumb witches she sent me. I’ve been wasting my rogues just to help her and she sent me mediocre witches.

“We’re sorry that we’re not giving you the result that you want. We promise to do better and give you something soon.”

“That’s all you’ve been saying! I don’t want to hear it, just go.”

They walk out of the room and I exhale. I know what I want is possible. It has been done before by a group of witches. I just have the misfortune of knowing stupid witches who cannot do anything.

My phone buzzes with a text notification. It’s Kol asking if he should send rogues to Caius’s pack today. I’m about to tell him to go ahead when I pause. I’m no longer getting satisfaction from annoying him daily. Sending the rogues to him daily reduces the number of rogues I have at my disposal. My aim is to wipe his pack out, not to reduce my army.

It’s time for him and his mate to die. Instead of replying Kol, I call Ryland. He answers immediately and I roll my eyes.

“Gather all the rogues from every pack you have attacked. You’ll attack Caius’s pack tomorrow. Make sure you win.”

“My king, I thought you wanted to fight in that battle. Will you join us tomorrow?”

“No, I’m still busy. Just make sure you win. You have an army of rogues.”

I end the call and call in one of the witches. “Send word to your supreme leader. I need my rogues for war tomorrow.”

The witch bows and leaves. At least, something is going to comfort me from all the failures I see happening around me.

CAIUS

There’s a knock on my door and the witches come in with smiles on their faces. They’re trying hard to conceal it but I can see the excitement on their faces.

Aliyah clears her throat. “Alpha Caius, after two days of no sleep and tirelessly working on a solution, we have it.”

“You have it.” I say calmly, not reacting to first good news I’ve gotten in a while.

“We have the solution! We can go near the rogues without being drained! We can harm them.” Moira says, relief pouring through every part of her being.

I smile and stand up from my seat. “This is good news! You should have screamed this from the roof tops.”

Elaine screams and Moira pulls me into a hug. Three of them hug me and I hug them back. When we pull apart, they have tears in their eyes.

“We didn’t think it was going to happen this soon but Raina was a big help. Every spell we wanted to try, she knew a reason why it wouldn’t work and how to improve it. She’s the reason we did it this fast.” Aliyah says.

I smile brighter. Raina has always been special. “How does it work?”

“We drank the potion instead of giving the rogues the potion. We’ve given to our other sisters. We’re just waiting for the rogues to come today so all of us can show them what we can do.”

The door bursts open with a loud bang. Clayton stands at the door, breathing hard, his eyes wide with urgency. There are sweat beads on his forehead. It looks like he ran here. “Alpha, I’m sorry for interrupting like this but you need to hear this now.”

“Come in and close the door.”

He steps inside and closes the door behind him, his hands shaking slightly. “Hundreds of rogues are heading straight toward us. They will be at our doorstep in a day, maybe less. I got a call from an unknown source. The voice was distorted, but he sounded urgent. I didn’t trust the information blindly, so I called Alpha Jerome’s beta. They’re near the area where the rogues were spotted and they were one of the packs that surrendered to the Alpha King.”

“Why should we trust this beta?”

“He didn’t want to surrender but he couldn’t run with his pregnant mate, so he stayed. He called me the night his pack surrendered to assure me he didn’t believe in the Alpha King. He said the rogues in their pack left suddenly and he heard his Alpha talking with some other Alphas who said the same thing. Caius, I think the war is happening tomorrow.”

“Let them come. We’ve found a solution.” Aliyah says. Clayton straightens with renewed confidence. “That’s what we were telling him. The rogues can come. They’ll meet more than they bargained for.”

“I cannot wait for this. I thought we‘d test it on 100 rogues but doing it on hundreds of them? I can’t wait.” Elaine says, her smile dangerous.

“Go back to the cell, make sure that the potion can hold for long. The war may last hours depending on how many they are.”

The witches nod and leave my office.

“Please come to my office immediately you’re done.” I tell Maeva through mind link. She’s at the training ground with a few wolves, helping them fight better.

Her reply is immediate. “Is something wrong? I can leave immediately.”

“Don’t leave in a way that will alarm anybody but Clayton just came with news that an army of rogues are headed towards us and they might be here tomorrow.”

“Alright. I’ll find a way to leave.”

“We need to start getting in touch with all our allies immediately. Everyone who swore loyalty to this cause, every pack we can reach. Call Jerome back. Everyone who can and wants to, should come down here tomorrow and join the fight. Those who do not will be considered traitors when all this is over. We need reinforcements here before dawn tomorrow.”

He pulls out his phone, already working on it. “Get Taron and Bale to help. It will be faster. I’ll speak to the pack and the Alphas myself.”

I leave him to do what I asked while I assemble the Alphas to talk to them. Maeva joins me as I’m informing the Alphas of the latest development. They also admitted to knowing wolves who surrendered to the Alpha King because they didn’t want their weak pack to be wiped out. Alpha Garrick calls an Alpha right in front of us who confirms what Clayton said.

“We thought it was strange that they all left but we didn’t question it. For the first time since they came, we could breathe. Some of us are willing to fight. I can send them down to help with the fight. It will be my small contribution to the fight.”

The call ends and the other Alphas start making calls for aid. I sound the alarm and all the pack gathers for a meeting. I talk to them about the impending war and measures we are taking to make sure we win.

We have to win.
