Chapter 119 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINETEEN
There’s an eerie calmness in the pack as hundreds of wolves all march to the clearing just outside Caius’s Pack to meet the rogues head on. Caius never expected that this number of wolves would turn up to fight but he is grateful for it and expects victory. They get to the clearing and he pulls his Maeva into a hug.
“I love you.” He tells her through mind link.
“I love you.” Maeva replies.
The embrace lingers and they draw strength and resolve from one another. When they finally separate, both wolves face the oncoming rogues with renewed determination. Caius stands at the front, powerful and looming. Beside him, Maeva presses close, waiting for the rogues to come. They’re close now. The sound of their paws can be heard, thunderous on the earth. Maeva takes a deep breath, trying to find out how many rogues are coming by the sound of their paws.
The rogues can finally be seen and Caius shifts. His shift triggers the rest of the wolves to shift too. The rogues start running towards them. Caius lunges forward with a thunderous snarl, meeting the first wave head-on. His jaws close around a rogue’s throat, ending the threat quickly. More pour in to take its place. Maeva fights at his side, swift and fierce, tearing into attackers that try to attack his sides. Their movements complement each other naturally. They watch each other’s sides and backs.
The witches, led by Moira, Aliyah, and Elaine run past Caius and Maeva into the heat of the attack with barriers spells shielding them from rogue attacks. Rogues try and fail to claw at them or bite them. They run to the end of the rogue lines and start killing the rogues from there. They put up a huge barrier to make sure that no rogue makes it out.
The fighting grows fiercer. A rogue barrels into Caius from the left, teeth snapping inches from his throat. He twists away at the last second, slamming his shoulder into the rogue hard enough to send it sprawling before crushing its neck beneath his jaws. Another replaces it immediately. Then another. They come without hesitation, driven by nothing but bloodlust.
Maeva darts between two rogues. One turns toward her just as she lunges, her powerful jaws locking around its throat. Bone cracks beneath the force of her bite. She drops the lifeless body and spins just in time to rake her claws across another rogue's muzzle, blinding it before Caius tears it apart.
Around them, the battlefield shakes with snarls, howls, and the clash of wolves colliding. The barrier surrounding the clearing pulses with soft blue light as rogues and werewolves are thrown against it.
The magic of the barriers throws the rogues and werewolves back several feet away. Elaine picks a rogue up with her magic, throws it against the barrier and when the barrier throws the rogue back, she sends a stream of blue fire at the rogue. The flames swallow and char the rogue completely before disappearing as quickly as they come, leaving the earth untouched.
Aliyah stretches both hands forward, her face tight with concentration. Thick vines burst from the forest floor, wrapping around the legs of several charging rogues. They snarl and snap wildly, but the vines only tighten. Pack warriors step in, ending the trapped rogues before turning back toward the battle.
Moira’s eyes glow white as power flows through her. Sweat beads along her forehead despite the cool air of the morning, yet her outstretched hands never lower. She’s holding the barrier as her sister’s fight. Every few seconds the barrier flickers as rogue and wolves slam into it. Some rogues are desperate to escape but she doesn’t let them. Each impact forces Moira to pour more magic into the spell. She turns back to see two other witches and she calls them.
“Help me,” she says and they turn around immediately and pour their magic to the barrier, while also shielding themselves.
A guttural growl pulls Caius’s attention back from the witches just as two rogues leap at him together. He ducks beneath the first. The second crashes into his side, knocking him off balance. Sharp claws slash across his ribs before he throws the rogue away with a violent twist of his body. Pain burns beneath his fur, but he ignores it. There is no time to feel pain.
Maeva reaches him before the next rogue does. She plants herself at his side, shoulders brushing his for the briefest moment.
“Still with me?” she asks through mind link.
“Always.” Caius responds.
She launches herself straight into another rogue. Caius follows. Blood stains their coats, but neither of them slows down. Every heartbeat brings another attacker. Every victory lasts only long enough for the next rogue to take its place.
Not far away, Clayton tears through a cluster of rogues attempting to reach the witches before disappearing back into the chaos. High overhead, Augustine and his falcons circles the battlefield, diving down to pick up rogues, taking them high into the sky them letting them fall to their deaths. On the opposite side of the battlefield, Theo and his tigers keep the rogues from escaping or advancing towards Caius and Maeva who seem to be the reason the rogues are here.
Maeva stumbles for a second and a rogue catches her shoulder with its teeth before she throws it off. Caius sees the blood soaking into her fur and rage explodes inside him. He growls and tears through the rogues with terrifying force, ripping one apart before slamming another into the ground. Another rogue lunges. He catches it by the throat and hurls it into two more.

I slowly sip wine and read my book. It’s not something I’ve done in years. I’ve always been too busy with my son and other things to enjoy simple luxuries like this. Today that I’m going to get what I have always wanted, I found the chance. After I’m done with Caius, the priestess is next. It will all be worth it.
There’s a timid unsure knock on my door and the smile on my face vanishes. It’s the witch that speaks for her sisters. “Come in.” I tell her and she opens the door slowly.
She walks up to my table and stands, not saying anything.
“What is it? Why are you just standing there?”
“You have to stop the fight, Alpha.”
I’m out of my seat in seconds and I pin her to the wall by her throat. She coughs and thrashes but I don’t let go.
“I’m going to slowly remove my hand from your throat. What you say next will determine whether or not you live or die.”
I release her and she takes a deep breath. “One of my sisters had a vision about your son. The key to making him well again is the child Alpha Caius and Alpha Maeva will make. The blood of the child can heal anything.”
Can it be? Is it that simple? Kill the child and have my son? Take Caius’s child from him?
That’s better than what I’m doing now.
