Chapter 117 CHAPTER ON HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN

Chapter 117 CHAPTER ON HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN
CAIUS

I see the exact moment it dawns on Alpha Magnus that I’m ready to go to whatever lengths it takes to make sure that Clayton leaves with his mate. He exhales deeply and falls back on the chair.

“You don’t understand. She has a child’s mind. She can’t make any decisions, sometimes she forgets her own name, and if she’s not watched constantly, she becomes a danger to herself. How do you expect me to leave my daughter in someone else’s care?”

I clench my jaw, trying to hide the pity I feel for the both of them. This is an impossible situation.

“I just want to see her. I can promise you that no harm will ever come to her but you’d never believe. I’m willing to visit her here under your care until you see that I’d never hurt her.” Clayton says.

“And when you do leave, no one will stop you from coming to see her any time you like. You’ve cared for her her whole life. But you’re going to give him a chance with his mate.”

“He’s going to hate her and then discard her. She can’t even shift. She has never been able to shift. I don’t know why this is happening. Werewolves who can’t shift do not have mates.”

Something is definitely wrong and I’ll have to talk to Raina about it before I talk to Clayton. It’s not normal for an Alphas daughter to be that way.

“We’ll both be here to set him straight but you’re going to give him a chance to prove that he’s going to be a good mate.”

He sighs and pulls his hair. “Fine. But if anything happens to my daughter, I will bring down fire on this pack.”

“That’s it? That’s the only conversation you have about it?” Clayton asks through mind link.

He’s being careful not to say anything to upset Alpha Magnus before he changes his mind.

“I really hope I don’t regret this.” Alpha Magnus says, looking at me.

“They’re back. Where are you? I’m going to the cell.” Maeva says through mind link and my body stiffens.

“I have to leave now. They’re back.” I say.

The relief on Clayton’s face at being able to see his mate is replaced with concern. He walks after me as I leave and I turn and put a hand on his chest, stopping him.

“Let’s finish this. I told him I‘d be back in a week for her. Let’s try and finish this in a week so I can keep my promise.” he says, his eyes determined.

I look back at the Alpha who looks happy that we’re both leaving and I start running.

ALIYAH

“Elaine!” I rush forward with the others, pulling her into a fierce hug. “You’re back. Oh thank the spirits.”

She laughs, a loud, exhausted sound, and steps back to look at all of us. “We did it. It wasn’t hard to get at all.”

She puts the bag she’s carrying on the floor and bends down to open it. She pulls out the vials they collected.

Moira leans in, her breath catching. “Three vials? You got more than we hoped.”

“The vampire had a friend and we couldn’t let him leave.” Elaine says, grinning.

The door opens again. Raina enters first, then Maeva. Their expressions look as hopeful as ours looked. Elaine shows them the vial and Raina pulls her in for a hug.

“Luis told us what happened. The blood you got should be more than enough right?” Maeva asks and we nod.

The door opens again and Caius and Clayton enter the room. Caius takes one look at the vials and nod. He then turns to Elaine. “Was it difficult?”

“No. We got two when we were expecting one and with my magic, it ended very quickly. It was probably the hunger in their eyes and head that slowed them down.”

He nods again then turns to me. “How long before you can get started? We need to start working on something before the vampires find out that they’re missing two vampires.”

“They wouldn’t come here even if they notice the missing vampires. The treaty forbids it.” I respond.

“The same treaty that was in place on the blue moon?” Clayton asks and I shut up. He’s right.

“The treaty is not what it used to be. It’s worse now with the rogues everywhere, controlling things.” Maeva adds. “Welcome. We’ll leave you to start immediately. Anything you need, let us know so we can help.”

We all look at the two rogues hanging from the ceiling. “We’re going to need more rogues to perform our experiments on.”

“That won’t be a problem. We’ve not seen them today and we’re expecting them soon.” Clayton says and we all laugh.

He’s back to being himself. He was gloomy for the past few days. Looked close to heartbreak but I know he doesn’t have a mate. They all leave except for Raina, who stands to the side with a smile. I’ve come to both adore the werewolf and dislike her. She refuses to teach me anything she knows but insists on being here to help us. She’s been very helpful and that’s where the adoration comes in. She’s a very knowledgeable werewolf.

“Where do we start from?” she asks, clapping her hands in excitement.

“We collected some ingredients for some spells we think might work. We’ll start cooking in the cauldron but when they’re done, we will need you to give them to the rogues to see if it works.” Moira tells her.

Her lips twist and she sighs. “You don’t agree? I ask and she nods.

“I don’t want to interfere with your work but I think it will be better to change the spells a little and test it on yourselves. These are just two wolves and except you plan to put it in the air the rogues breathe, this is your best bet.”

Damn it, she’s right again. “What’s wrong with putting it in the air?” I ask.

My tone is rude and dismissive but she either doesn’t notice or she doesn’t care. She carries on excitedly.

“If you put it in the air, the chances that the chemicals in the air will change the potion are high. If it doesn’t change then we consider the amount of blood and how much can be produced to affect all the rogues, including those in your territory. What you need to do is to make it for yourselves then try to harm the rogues.”

“She’s right.” Elaine says, looking at me.

“I know she’s right. Why won’t you teach me? How are you this knowledgeable? I should be older than you.” Werewolves live long lives but not as long as witches do.

She laughs and throws her head back. “I’ll never get tired of hearing that. Aliyah, I’m closer in age to your priestess than I am to you.”

All our mouths hang open as we look at her. “Werewolves don’t get that old.”

“I know.” She says and walks to the cauldron where the herbs are.

“Let’s start making them.” She says with a smile.
