Chapter 108 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT

Chapter 108 CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT
CAIUS

The pack is full. Every day, we get new wolves in the pack who does not want to serve the werewolf king. Some of our neighbors have willingly surrendered without being asked to submit. We need to have a plan before they join forces with our enemies to destroy us.

“What if they reach us before we’re fully ready?”

The question from Alpha Nel annoys me for two reasons. One, he’s an alpha. Two, he’s a pack leader. He should know that no one is ever fully ready for an attack.

“That’s exactly why we’re here. Ryland and Kol are advancing very fast. Their forces grow stronger every day. They’re no longer in their packs. Since yesterday, eight more packs have been attacked and made to kneel, and their master still hasn’t shown his face. We’re all living in uncertainty, but uncertainty won’t save us. We need a plan.”

Voices erupt all at once, talking over each other. We’ll never get anywhere. Alpha Brent just watches in disappointed sadness. His friends and council members just died and his hope of revenge for them are not acting like they’re serious about this.

“Shut up!” Maeva yells and everyone goes silent. “You all should be ashamed of yourselves. How can you sit there and argue when we don’t know what we are doing? We’re all living in a play and the puppet master refuses to give us the script. Is this how we intend to liberate ourselves?”

They have the decency to look ashamed of themselves. Good. I squeeze her legs under the table in gratitude. My next plan was to start throwing them all out.

“I contacted Europe and Asia but they do not want to get involved. We’re on our own and they’re blocking off their borders so this doesn’t spread to them.” Alpha Brent says.

I’m not surprised. After the war, everyone keeps to themselves and refuse to interfere.

“I am old and tired and I do not have any ideas to lead us out of this. I just want to mourn my friends and defend my pack until I die. That is what I came to say and now that I’ve said it, I will leave.”

He stands up to leave and I stand with him. I walk him to his car where his men are waiting.

“Caius, I trust you. If there’s anyone who can lead us out of this, it is you.”

I clench my jaw and nod. I stand outside until he leaves before I turn to head back to the madness. The pressure on me to be the savior has just increased. I’ll do it but I’m nervous. I’ve never faced anything like this.

“How many packs have they already swallowed?” Alpha Garrick asks when I enter.

“More than we should have lost.” Taron says, frowning. “Blue moon pack didn’t even wait to be attacked before they surrendered.”

It is disgraceful. They mounted a sign in front of their pack declaring their loyalty to the so-called werewolf king.

“Now that the old, wise wolf has gone, what do we do?” Augustine asks.

His eyes make me uncomfortable. They’re sharp and feel like he can look deep into my soul. Only Maeva gets that privilege.

“Our magic is useless against them. We can’t even scratch the rogues. Whatever they did, they did with paralyzing witches in mind. I don’t understand how the priestess could sign off on something like this.” Moira says.

A beta growls. “We’re playing a losing game. If the witches could fight them, half of what we’re facing would have been reduced. These rogues are powerful and they can half shift. I saw it with my own eyes.”

I forget that not everyone is privy to information that I have. Many alphas in the room gasp at his declaration. We’re in trouble if alphas don’t know what we’re up against. What exactly did the council do with the information we gave them?”

“We should address the biggest weakness first. The spell that prevents witches from harming rogues affects us in other ways. The rogues are too much for the few of us who still have common sense to handle. That has to change.”

Aliyah nods grimly. “We’ve tried everything. Counter-spells, old rituals, moon magic. Nothing works to break the bond. If we can’t break this curse, we’re all going to fall one by one. Every last witch that serves the spirits.”

“We should create fortified strongholds. Map out a vast area of land for all who won’t bow to these rogues. We set traps everywhere. Make it truly impenetrable.” Theo says.

“That only buys time. We need to hit them first. Kill them all in the dead of the night.” Alpha Grayson says.

“Exactly my point.” Theo says, smiling. “We need time. As it stands now, things are coming at us very fast. We need time to think and plan properly.”

“What does a tiger shifter know about these things anyway? Your kind never gets involved in wars.” A beta snarls.

“He clearly knows more than you do if that’s your response to what he said.” Clayton says, sneering at the beta.

His alpha snarls, offended and I growl back. Everyone calms down against and Maeva rolls her eyes. “Males.” She says through mind link.

The conversation progresses and I listen carefully, holding Maeva’s hands under the table the whole time. More ideas come. Good ideas and it gives me hope and relief. They want their freedom more than anything else.

After nearly an hour of heated discussion, a clear plan begins to form.

“Everyone will pitch in for any of this to work.” I say, my voice carrying across the room. “No more division between wolves and others. By virtue of this rogue situation, we’re all one, suffering from the same thing. These rogues are not just attacking werewolves, they’re going after other paranormals.”

“It won’t be an announcement. We’ll simply set up a new border and call it home for all who do not wish to kneel. We may encroach in some packs but we’ll be ready for resistance. Every able pack member will help guard the borders and train to fight the rogues when the time comes.”

“We will also need all your healers to help with the injured. Food supplies will also be appreciated and any information you have that might help the witches will be needed.” Maeva says.

“What information?” Alpha Garrick asks.

“Ancient books that survived the war, insights from your oldest pack members. Anything.” Elaine says.

The meeting ends and everyone starts leaving. Maeva, Clayton, Taron, the witches, and I remain after everyone has gone. The door opens as we’re about to start discussing and Raina comes in.

“What can I do to help, Alpha?” she asks.

“Thank you very much Raina, you’re doing enough. In the coming days, we’ll have a lot of injured that will need caring for.”

“My students can handle that. I heard your mate say that they need people who can provide insight in to the witch’s problem. I can do that. I want to help.”

“How could you possible help? Elaine asks and Raina smirks.
