The Second Trials; Temptations of the Moon Week
CHAPTER 175: THE SECOND TRIALS; TEMPTATION OF THE MOON WEEK
As the last bell faded, the sigils on the walls flared violently.
Alicia’s heat vanished instantly and was
replaced by a surge of cold dread.
Brooke, Max, and Yuri rushed in at the same time.
But the chamber doors slammed shut between them, sealing Alicia inside alone.
The sigils rearranged.
A voice echoed from everywhere and nowhere:
“THE FIRST TRIAL IS COMPLETE.
THE SECOND TRIAL BEGINS NOW.”
Alicia screamed, “Wait...NO! Let them in!”
But the floor split open beneath her, glowing with a raw, ancient power she had never felt before.
Max pounded on the door.
Brooke shouted her name.
Yuri slammed his shoulder into the barrier until blood ran down his arm.
Alicia was lifted into the air, held by invisible force.
The second trial had begun.
And this time…
she would be tested alone.
The moment Alicia was swallowed by the glowing rift, she thought she would lose herself again, but instead, she found clarity.
The air around her dissolved into a floating, translucent realm, like a membrane between worlds. Sound echoed strangely, vision shimmered, and when Alicia took a breath, she realized that she could see the physical world.
But no one could see her.
Her test was not only solitude.
It was witnessing.
Alicia stood barefoot on a surface that wasn’t stone or air but something in between, like solidified moonlight. Sigils formed beneath her step, rearranging with each movement. A golden, translucent window blinked open before her like the pupil of some watching eye.
Through it, she saw Brooke pacing outside the sealed chamber. Max leaning against the wall, jaw tight. Yuri rubbing the back of his neck, restless yet composed.
Alicia whispered, “Flo… what is this?”
Her wolf’s voice came soft, strained.
"This is the Queen’s Ordeal. You are being tested on restraint, emotional clarity… and on how you judge your future mate’s choices under temptation."
Alicia felt a tremor pass through her.
“Temptation? They just survived three hours of hell.”
"Yes," Flo replied darkly. "But the next trial is different. Centered not around you… but around their truth when you are not theirs to claim."
Before Alicia could question further, the window widened, spreading into a sweeping view of the Grand Square of the kingdom.
And her heart dropped.
THE MOON GODDESS’ FERTILITY WEEK
The Council stood on the elevated marble dais, banners of silver and indigo drifting behind them. Omega maidens—young, beautiful, and trembling beneath veils, were gathered in ceremonial lines. Their gowns floated like gossamer moonlight.
The High Seer raised her staff.
“For generations, the Moon Goddess gifts us with Fertility Week.
A sacred time.
A population oath.
A night of flares and instinct.”
The crowd roared with excitement and anticipation.
Alicia shook her head. “No… not today. Not now.”
Flo’s voice was apologetic.
"The ritual predates all queens. They cannot cancel it."
“But they’re tempting the unmated males,” Alicia whispered. “My males.”
"That is exactly the trial."
Alicia felt sick.
The Seer’s next words chilled her.
“This year, three of our strongest alphas, Brooke, Max and Yuri, must take part, to ensure the Moon Goddess’ blessing and strength for the kingdom.”
Alicia’s hand flew to her mouth.
“No! They wouldn’t.”
But her heart twisted, because she knew that they might not have a choice.
The Seer lifted her staff again. Magical smoke spiraled upward, pink, silver, and blazing with primal energy.
Omega flares.
Not naturally occurring.
Magically induced.
Designed to trigger the deepest instincts in unmated males.
Alicia’s knees weakened.
“Flo… they’ll be in agony.”
"Yes. The Council will judge them by their actions. And the magic will record their deepest drives and loyalties."
THE GATHERING OF THE THREE
Max was the first to feel it.
Alicia watched through the window as he stiffened, inhaled sharply, and pressed a hand to the nearest pillar.
“Damn it..!” His voice dropped into a growl. “Not tonight.”
Brooke felt it too, his jaw tightening as Kael murmured anxiously in his mind. He didn’t collapse or stiffen. He steadied himself, planting both feet on the ground.
Yuri closed his eyes, whispering, “Moon have mercy..!”
The Council announced, “The males shall drink the ceremonial draught to calm and steady them.”
Servants approached with goblets glowing pink and gold.
Max reached first, too fast, too desperate, and downed his in seconds.
Yuri took his with trembling hands.
Brooke hesitated.
Then he asked softly, “What’s in this?”
The servant blinked, thrown. “A ceremonial drink, my lord.”
Brooke didn’t touch it.
Kael rumbled. "Good. Something is wrong."
Alicia placed a hand against the invisible window. “Don’t drink it… don’t…”
But Max had finished three cups before Brooke even smelled his.
Yuri drank two.
Brooke finally lifted his goblet, sniffed it, and pushed it away.
“I’m not drinking anything I haven’t vetted.”
The Council stiffened.
Alicia’s heart leapt painfully with pride.
But the test wasn’t over.
THE UNFOLDING TEMPTATION
Omega maidens, under the spell of the Moon Week, stepped into the square, eyes glowing faint pink. Their scent rolled through the air, thickening, intoxicating.
Max stumbled back, gripping his head.
Yuri braced against a pillar.
Brooke turned sharply away.
Max was already mumbling. “Alicia… where is she? Damn it, why am I... why do I feel like..?”
His pupils widened unnaturally.
Tawny snapped and thrashed in Max’s mind:
"Mate! Need mate. Need..."
“No!” Max slammed his fist into the stone wall. “Not them. Not anyone but her.”
But he was shaking violently.
The Omega girls approached.
Alicia watched in horror.
One brushed Max’s arm, the barest touch.
He shuddered.
His breathing hitched.
His self-control shredded by the potion.
“Get...back,” he growled, but it was too late.
Two more pressed closer, eyes dreamy, their magic-drenched pheromones swirling around him.
Max’s knees buckled.
Alicia whispered, “Please, don’t fail…”
But Max choked, “Stay away, please...just...”
And then one of the maidens kissed him.
Soft. Quick.
Barely more than a brush.
Max froze.
His eyes rolled back.
And in that moment... he succumbed.
Not fully.
Not willingly.
But enough.
The magic recorded everything.
Alicia clenched the sides of the window until her palms hurt.
“Max…”
Her voice broke.
Flo murmured sadly.
"He didn’t choose it. But the trial measures instincts… and weakness."
Max staggered away from the maidens, nauseated and furious with himself.
“NO! That wasn’t... That wasn’t...” He punched a column hard enough to break bone.
But the magic had already judged him.
YURI’S DOWNFALL
Across the square, Yuri wasn’t faring much better.
He was drunk.
Too drunk.
The ceremonial draught hit him slower… but harder.
Yuri tried to sit, pressing a hand to his forehead. “Why… why does it feel like the world is spinning?”
His maidens approached too.
He tried, gods, he tried not to meet their eyes. But one knelt in front of him, placing her hands on her knees, bowing her head in submission.
