Chapter 50
Reece POV
The following morning saw me acting like an excited school boy.
Julia was allowed home.
Jeremy had been astonished at the rate in which Julia healed. On the outside, anyway.
I rushed through the kitchen, heading for the back door that would lead me to a short cut to the hospital. When I heard a small cough, coming from behind me. I spun around only to see my housekeeper, Mabel.
Standing behind here was her mate, Max. They were a fated pair. And had run this pack house for as long as I can remember.
“Alpha. Um, are you leaving? To bring back our Lady, Luna Julia?”
My eyes widened in shock as her words landed on me.
Luna? Mabel has called Julia, Luna.
“Mabel. Why did you call Julia by that title? No one knows yet. Do they?”
I saw and heard Max let out a snort of laughter, before my eyes swiveled back toward his mate.
“Alpha. Every member of the pack knows that Julia, Luna Julia. Is your fated mate. Plus, everyone’s wolf here, and for miles around, knows that our Lady Onyx has returned.”
Mabel looked up to me sheepishly. Max just had a huge grin on his face.
“Oh.”
Was all I managed to say.
Mabel started to speak again, and it took my mind a few seconds to catch on to what she was saying.
“You think I should bring Julia the long way back? Why? It would be so much easier to just return this way.”
I gestured toward the locked door that led to short cut.
“Alpha. I Know you want to get your mate, and bring her home as quickly as you can. I understand that. It’s just, the whole pack knows who Julia is now. You can not hide her away. Not from her pack, anyway. We already love her. All pack members are proud and honored to know this. They want to see her. Even if it is just a quick glance as you rush by them. Everyone knows about the prophesy. But it’s not about that, for those of us who remember Luna Julia as a child. I, for one, am one of these people. We just want to see the sweet girl that we lost, all those years ago.”
I was thoughtful for a moment.
“You are right. Of course. The pack members will want to see her. I should have thought about it. Thank you, Mabel.”
I nodded once to her then to Max. I would still use the short cut to go to the hospital. It didn’t take long to get there. I noticed there was slightly more activity around the entrance, but put it down to the fact that there would be more out-patients appointments, because of the disaster.
When I got to the corridor where Julia’s room was I noticed two of my patrol warriors standing there. They flanked Julia’s room.
My eyes must have spoken for me, as one of my warriors named Brett answered my unspoken question.
“Alpha. Her grace will be ready shortly.”
Brett lowered his head, to show me respect. Although I had a sneaky suspicion that he would have ripped my face off, had I not had a good reason for being here.
“Thank you. Please tell Julia I will be waiting for her in Dr. Wallace’s office.
I had no sooner spoken, when the door to my left was opened. The two warriors that stood outside her room stood even straighter, if that was possible.
With their chests puffed out, the muscles in their arms and shoulders look more pronounced than ever.
I smiled at the memory replaying in my mind.
I was the one who had taught the warriors that pose. I had only been the alpha of this pack a few months. I heard through the grapevine that all warrior classes were preparing for my first official inspection.
I had made a throw-away comment, stating that as long as they wore short sleeves and puffed out their chests, they would impress me.
It got back to some of my warriors, so on inspection day everyone of my elite warriors wore their black short sleeves and puffed out their chests.
It was an impressive sight.
Before I became the Alpha, I was one of these people. I was the strongest, the fastest and the most undefeated in the whole troop of warriors.
I saw recognition flash across the face I had always loved. I watched as Julia nodded to both warriors.
Then I saw the moment Julia saw me. If I was not already in love with this she-wolf, I would have fallen for her right then and there.
The love pouring out of her made my knees weak and my heart pound.
Goddess didn’t seem appropriate. It almost seemed lacking, on how to describe her. She was radiant.
“Reece, good morning.”
I am quite sure my name had never sounded so good as it did spilling from her lips.
I knew I couldn’t speak yet, so I merely gestured to the corridor. And waited for Julia to go first. Before I could blink, her bodyguards were next to her. So much so I couldn’t get close to her.
I was about to remind them who the Alpha was, when Julia spoke in a soft measured voice.
“Boys, I think we can all agree that I am safe with the Alpha of our pack? Please allow Reece to walk next to me and not behind me.”
Both men flushed, and then bowed their heads in reverence, first to Julia and then to myself.
I sidled up next to Julia and beamed down into her beautiful face. I couldn’t resist placing a small kiss on the end of her nose as I too wished her a good morning.
She giggled, then reached for my hand. And that was how we arrived at the Dr’s office two minutes later.
Dr Wallace had his door open already. We walked in and sat down in front of his desk.
My gamma looked openly flustered. I narrowed my eyes and opened the mind link.
“What’s ruffled your feathers this morning? Why are you acting so nervous?”
My Gamma looked at me, then at Julia then back to me. His face was trying to tell me something. I just didn’t know what.
I soon found out though, when Julia answered my question on his behalf.
