Chapter 49
Alpha Max POV
Lilian had finally fallen asleep. I was holding her tightly. My mind was racing.
I know I had ruined all our lives by my own desire for power.
Had I just left Julia alone. Had I just followed through on my promise, and looked after her. None of this would be happening.
I was shocked that I was not already in shackles. After I had admitted to the Dr, that I was the one that had originally blocked Julias wolf. I honestly thought I would be detained at the hospital.
I suspected that they let me go, for now, because everyone involved could see that Lilian was innocent.
I do not know who’s grace I received. But I was very grateful.
I was just trying to slip out my arm, when I felt it.
Such a strong vibration through my very soul. Lilian stirred. Making me curse.
“Max? What is it. What is happening? Do you feel that?”
I could only nod my head in response.
I did feel it. Too my very wolf core. Something or someone had returned to this realm.
And they were extremely powerful.
Any hope I had of leaving, of sculking back to my own pack vanished.
For I knew in my heart who had just returned.
Brutus confirmed it. I could see him, in my minds eye. He was bowing very low to the ground, and with reverence he was whispering, over and over.
One word.
Onyx.
Jackson POV
I was becoming impatient. I kept reaching out to my soon-to-be Beta. And my other friends, only to be met with silence.
Sid was enraged by this.
How dare they ignore us. We are Alphas.
His voice boomed in my head. It took a lot of effort to keep my great wolf contained. He wanted to shift and start ripping heads off.
Sid, calm yourself. I asked everyone to start looking for that Bitch Eva. I’m sure they are just busy.
My words sounded weak, even to me. I don’t know what is happening. I decide to contact my father. He would know.
Father?
I open the link between us. Waiting for his response.
What do you need, pup?
My brows rose as I heard Father Brutus answer.
I just wanted to know if anyone has reported in. About Eva. Has she been found?
I heard an annoyed grunt. Then a huff. I was about to apologize and cut the link, when Father Brutus answered me.
My pup. I doubt that Bitch will be found. I believe the Mages are hiding her. It would be a waste of resources to look. Anyway, something far more important has happened. Don’t you feel it? Doesn’t Obsidian feel it?
I could feel myself frowning. I thought I had imagined the strange pulse that had ricocheted through my body at the hospital. Especially since Dan had felt nothing.
Father, I did feel something. I don’t know what it was. But I did feel it.
My pup. What you felt. What we all felt was a miracle happening. The greatest of all wolves has returned to us. And all wolf kind should be rejoicing. The Lady Onyx is finally awake and reunited with her fated mate.
Change is upon us, boy. Big change.
The link was abruptly cut off. Father Brutus sounded like he was in shock. I tried again to open the link. This time pushing a little harder to speak with my human father. Once again I felt a block in place.
Something bad was about to happen. I needed to get to my parents.
And quickly.
Reece POV
I sat next to Julia’s bed. Watching her as she slept.
I was a feared and respected Alpha. My wolf was known to be brutal. I was known to be fair. But swift to punish when the moment called for it.
But, here I was. A puddle of love and mush for the sleeping beauty before me. I swear I could feel my heart swell at the thought of her.
Its not the only thing that will swell if you don’t knock it off, Reece.
I smiled at the lured thoughts now running through my mind thanks to my wolf.
Raven. Sorry. I mean, Ne’var. If you keep it up I will have no choice but to wake Julia. And waking Julia means waking Onyx!
There was silence. Then a low chuckle.
Yeah, lets not do that. And Reece. I do not mind if you want to keep calling me Raven. I understand it is all you have ever known. It would be most unfair for me to insist that you call me Ne’var.
I was speechless for a few seconds.
Thank you. I will try, but I know I will also slip up. So please bare with me.
I sat quietly for a time. Until my peace was broken, with the opening of my mind link to my Beta.
“Steven? Is everything okay?”
“Alpha. I have found out that Eva is definitely with the Mages. I sent scouts to their last known location. Unfortunately the place was deserted. I believe they have moved into the forest. As you are aware. Their power comes from nature. It’s my guess that they will use this connection to strengthen their powers.”
“Yes. I agree, Steven. Continue to search for them. We must find Eva. She must pay for what she has put my mate through.”
I heard Steven stammer, then, in a rush of words, he said
“Alpha. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to learn that Julia is your fated mate. I always knew there was something special about her. Even as a small child, she seemed to glow with strength and power. It will be a honor to serve Julia and yourself. Though I do think it prudent to arrange for Julia to have her own Beta and Gamma. To be linked to such power, it could be overwhelming.”
I could kick myself, for not thinking about that. I will discuss it with Julia when she wakes up.
“You are right, Steven. Julia and Onyx must have their own team around them. Also, can you please arrange for Maximus and Lilian to attend dinner with us, tomorrow.
If Steven was surprised by the lack of title. He didn’t say. I know my Beta well enough to know he understood me.
The handling of that situation would be dealt with by my mate.
Eva might be missing. But there were still people around who had deliberately hurt my mate.
I could not let that stand.
