Chapter 34 their dirty deed
Chapter 34 their dirty deed
Lucifer’s P.O.V. (continued)
David took a deep breath and shook his head a little before looking back at me with a calm gaze.
“I know that you will go to the depths of this matter, my king, but please stop the investigation.” His gaze didn’t change, but I could sense his plea.
“What exactly is the problem with the investigation, David? Did you or your family do something that couldn’t see the light, or is there something else?” I questioned.
This time, I didn’t hold up my anger.
I was already fed up with all the secrecy that the council pulled up on me yesterday, and now David was doing the same thing.
David’s expression darkened this time.
It seemed that our auras collided heavily with each other as the air suddenly thickened to the extent that I felt it on my skin.
The flickering in his eyes made me raise my brows.
Even Beast came forward and stared at him through my eyes.
“It was Marcus who went to see Amber during her morning run,” Ethan informed me through mind-link.
So, the old hag didn’t take my words seriously, huh?
David’s eyes were still locked with mine.
I could see anger, but no fear.
Hesitation, but determination.
Determination for what?
“Something is off, Lucifer,” Ethan said to me through mind-link.
“What is it?” I asked him but David spoke at the same time.
“I….. I only can tell you one thing.”
I didn’t even blink once. Just stared at him with a dead gaze.
“That case involves more than three packs, including the royal pack.” He paused for two heartbeats, and then what came out of his mouth made me stop breathing.
“Witches are also involved.”
The silence in the room was deafening.
“One more layer off, and Amber will pay the price.”
The words landed like continuous strikes of a hammer on my chest, breaking every rib bit by bit.
Beast growled lowly, angry and startled.
“She has already been through so much for this life span, my king. Don’t make things more painful for her. This is my humble request,” David said further and slowly stood up.
“If the price of her being here is to rip off her old wounds, then I have no problem with taking her back with me.” He continued speaking in a solemn and calm tone, adjusting his cuffs.
“Don’t fly so high, David.” I threatened him, banging my palm against the edge of the desk, and stood up abruptly, setting the chair backward with a shrill screech against the floor.
“She is my baby sister, my king. I couldn’t protect her back then, but it doesn’t mean that I still can’t. No matter what relationship you two have right now, she is still mine to protect.”
My eyes widened in shock this time, but his gaze didn’t change.
He was still calm, carrying the composure of an alpha with a strong bloodline.
“He knows?” Beast also gasped in shock.
Did Amber tell him about us being mates?
Why didn't she tell me that his family knows about this?
David just hinted that he knows, but is he really okay with the situation between Amber and me?
“He is right, my king. The incident is protected with a spell.” Ethan spoke grimly after a few seconds.
David’s gaze still didn’t change.
“It will hurt Amber.” He only said that, but I got the implication.
“I will kill them all,” Beast howled aloud, infuriated to the extent that he almost initiated the shift.
I was infuriated, too.
I was angry with my father as he was the king at that time, but now I am angry with both myself and the council.
They said not to open that case.
They said that her family must return to the Dark Shadow Pack or else the pack will destroy itself in a few months.
They told me about the blood pact between the pack soul and their family, but they didn’t utter a single word about the spell, the harm my investigation would bring to my mate.
David bowed respectfully before moving towards the door.
I didn’t stop him but closed my eyes.
For the next few moments, the dead silence in the room only infuriated me more.
I almost sent my mate to the death door if this is what David wanted to convey through his encrypted statements.
“So, there is no way that we can find out what exactly happened back then?” I asked Ethan with a suppressed fury after some time.
“Why are you so eager to know about that incident, Lucifer? You said that it doesn’t matter to you if she has a wolf or not.” Ethan asked me in a worried tone.
He called me by name.
“Because she had a wolf, Ethan. Something happened to her wolf back then. She isn’t wolf-less,” I told him what the council had told me.
“What?” he exclaimed in shock.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked at the now-closed door with fury.
“She said paid politics, right?” I asked him after a short and suffocating silence of a few seconds.
“Yes.” He answered breathlessly.
He was also stunned by what I told him.
“It means that my father, our former king, did something that he was ashamed of being found by the next generation, so he asked a witch to cast a spell and bound Amber with it, right?” I continued speaking about what came to mind.
What I understood from the whole situation.
Ethan didn’t speak, but I knew that he was also angry.
“She was only fifteen, Ethan, when this happened. Her wolf died protecting her human.” I told him further in a fit of rage.
He gasped aloud in shock but didn’t say a word.
I marched towards the window as I was feeling suffocated and wanted to get some fresh air.
I didn’t want to go out in this condition.
I was so angry that my aura could hurt the low-rankers, especially omegas outside.
“Calm down, Lucifer. You did nothing wrong, and Amber and David are wise enough to understand your intention behind your act,” Ethan asked me in a cautious voice.
I sucked in a breath when I recalled that cold look on Amber.
Would she really understand?
I didn't speak and stopped in front of the window.
Outside, the world was shining brightly under the sunlight, but inside me was a storm of emotions.
The sky was not clear. There were a few clouds, but the atmosphere was still bright and sunny.
"Let's go and find our mate," Beast asked me, but I shook my head.
"She should be with David now. I will find her later," I answered him grimly and took a deep breath.
But I couldn't calm myself down.
“What did you find, Ethan?” I asked him in a cold and dangerously low voice.
