Chapter 33 her anger

Chapter 33 her anger
Lucifer’s P.O.V.

“David. It’s good to see you here.” I greeted David calmly when he entered my office with Amber.
It took my whole will to stop me from looking at Amber.
In her blue jeans and a peach-coloured long top, she looked like a fresh, blooming flower.
I never saw any trace of makeup on her face.
And yet she still looks breathtaking whenever I see her at any time.
“My king.” David bowed his head respectfully.
Amber followed him.
I clenched my jaw but smiled faintly, keeping the composure of the king.
Beast didn’t like her bowing in front of me, but Lucifer and Ethan were also in the room.
“Please, have a seat,” I asked him, but this time, my eyes moved to Amber.
She had an expressionless face as she walked beside David.
Ethan was sitting on his desk on the other side of the office, while Lucifer was sitting on the right side of the table.
“She was so happy last night when she was running with David and Lucifer. Look at her now. Looking so sour.” Beast grumbled but pouted when Amber didn’t look at me.
I furrowed my brow slightly.
Why is she angry?
They both sat down in front of me on the other side of the table.
“I guess you have already got a few suggestions for the house?” I asked David.
“Yes, my king. After dropping off Amber at her office, I am going to see all those houses. The pup will start its movements in a week. She will need to be here before that,” David answered me calmly.
I nodded in understanding.
Every pup in its mother’s womb needs to stay connected with its pack before started moving. It eases the mother’s pain during that cycle.
“How is she adjusting in the city?” I asked him in a concerned tone.
They didn’t come to the royal pack after I accepted them as members of the royal pack.
“Better than I have anticipated.” He answered me, and I nodded in understanding.
City life is the opposite of the pack’s life.
A pack wolf faces some problems adjusting to city life in the beginning because of the strange environment and the restrictions on the inner wolf.
With her pregnancy, Laila should be restless all this time.
“You need to bring her here as soon as possible, David. Severing ties with the pack, going rogue for a while, and then accepting the other pack in less than two hours, it would have taken a toll on her wolf.” I instructed him calmly.
He nodded in understanding and then looked at Amber.
I also looked at her.
She still had that expressionless face.
“What is it?” I asked her calmly, putting my clasped hands on the top of the table.
She didn’t even blink but looked at me with a deathly stare.
Something was wrong.
I waited for her to speak.
Daniel also frowned and held her hand on the armrest of her chair.
“I request you to stop investigating what happened to me back then, my king.” I coced my brow; my expression hardened.
“Let the past remain in the past. There is no use investigating it now. It will not bring any good to anyone.” She added in the same detached tone.
The temperature in the room went down a bit.
The second she stopped speaking, my king’s aura released.
“Are you telling me what I should do, Amber?” I asked her coldly.
Lucifer and Ethan were in high alert mode by now.
Even David had straightened his back.
Amber just kept on staring at me with the same coldness.
The silence in the room irritated me more.
“I am only asking you to leave my past buried under those lies and politics, my king. Your digging will only hurt me,” she answered, and I growled, my nails digging inside my knuckles when I tightened my grip on my fingers.
David immediately held his hand in front of Amber’s chest protectively.
As if I would hurt her.
It only fuelled my anger. Ethan also came to us and stood up beside me.
His beta instinct to protect his king was released from his aura at the same time.
“I beg your pardon, my king, but I wish to understand what exactly you two are talking about," he asked stiffly, his aura suppressed.
It was remarkable that he had that kind of hold on his own aura, but this wasn’t the time to admire his abilities.
I was already pissed by the way the council members reacted and what they told me.
Now, Amber was questioning me, too.
“The council raised questions about accepting Amber as my pack member, and during the argument, I learned something about the incident where she lost her wolf,” I told David in a cold tone, my gaze locked with Amber’s.
But my heart skipped a beat when a wave of raw pain crossed her gaze.
She masked it immediately, but I noticed that.
David also stiffened.
“Amber had her wolf?” Lucian asked in a surprised tone, but I ignored him.
The silence in the room was thick and suffocating, but Amber didn’t look away.
Neither did she change her facial expression.
“You said lies and politics, Amber,” I spoke again, shattering that suffocation.
Her jaw clenched.
A very subtle movement, but I noticed that.
“Amber. Go outside.” David suddenly commanded her, taking me off guard.
My eyes widened in surprise when his aura slipped out of his control this time.
Lucian also stood up from the chair.
Amber’s breathing was uneven, but she didn’t protest or question.
She lowered her gaze, slowly stood up from the chair, and before I could stop her, she stormed out of the room.
Leaving me both angry and startled.
I was about to say something when David raised his hand high between us, stopping me in the process.
“How dare you, David?” I growled in a dangerously low voice.
“Let her go, my king. She took more than two years to come out of the trauma of that incident. Please, don’t push her back,” David pleaded in a stiff voice.
“I am going after her,” Lucian suddenly said in a stiff voice and then ran behind Amber.
"I have no intention of hurting her, David," I answered him in the same manner.
"But as her king and alpha, I have every right to know why the council is so terrified by her presence here and why they said that banishing your family can reduce that pack to ashes?" I added, anger rising in my voice.
David's face was expressionless, but his veins had popped up on his temples.
"And Ethan." I looked at Ethan when I realised something.
"Find out who, from the council, met Amber when I sternly instructed them not to go anywhere near her," I instructed him angrily.
"Got it, my king. Give me ten minutes," he answered and immediately walked back to his desk.
I looked at David again, waiting for him to answer my questions.
