Chapter 20 they are strange
Lucifer’s P.O.V. (Continued)
Beast snarled when the mere thought of Amber being touched or harassed by Adrian crossed my mind.
This can’t be.
Amber might not have her wolf, but she is a strong woman.
She would rather choose death than be abused or harassed.
Still, I needed to find the reason behind leaving their pack altogether.
I took a deep breath before looking back at David and his family again.
Ethan gave me a simple knife while taking the bowl from me.
Laila looked uncomfortable as she put her hand on her stomach protectively again.
“You don’t need to drink it, Laila. Just one drop of blood in your mouth is enough to bind you and the pup to the pack and me.” I comforted her calmly.
She smiled tightly but held David’s hand tightly.
My gaze unconsciously fell on their intertwined fingers.
One day, I will be able to hold Amber’s hands in the open just like them.
The mere thought was enough to make me feel happy.
I slashed my palm and let my blood fall into the bowl. David came forward first and took the knife from me, cutting his palm and mixing our blood in the bowl.
“Laila,” I called to Laila calmly after that. She looked at me curiously.
“You finish the ritual with your mate,” I instructed her, and her eyes widened in surprise.
I gave her an assuring nod because mates can do this ritual together. This information is in our books.
Not everyone knows about this.
One by one, all of them finished the ritual.
But the most astonishing part was that with every binding, I felt a strong surge of strength add to the pack bond.
“They really are not just a normal beta family.” Beast remarked, feeling pride in having a strong mate like Amber.
“Did you feel that?” Lucian exclaimed aloud in excitement, and I heard Ethan humming in response through our personal mind-link that we had created on our own.
“Yeah. This is getting more exciting.” Ethan mumbled through the mind-link.
“We should get going now, my king,” David asked for permission with utmost respect evident in his voice.
“Go ahead, David. Come to the royal pack in a few days. This has bound you to the royal pack, but you still need the formal ceremony.” I replied to him calmly.
“I understand, my king.” With a curt bow in front of me, they all walked away after kissing on Amber’s forehead one by one.
Laila held Amber for a few more seconds before leaving her too.
Amber was restless. I could feel through our mate bond, but I couldn’t comfort her.
“Let’s go, Amber.” Ethan spoke to her gently.
She sniffed and walked towards the second car behind us.
I was about to call her again when Lucian held my arm.
“Let her go, bro. The way you have been acting around her, everyone will take it in the other way. Let her have a peaceful life in our pack instead of being branded as your interest.” He spoke to me through mind-link, his tone serious, and sincere.
“I will stay with her in the vehicle.” Ethan told me in a serious tone.
I nodded in response, but I was still disappointed. I told her that I needed some time, but it doesn’t mean that she needs to stay away from me as if I were some kind of plague.
“What are you waiting for, bro? Let’s go.” Lucian urged me in his usual playful manner.
I sucked in a breath and entered the car with a gloomy face.
“What’s with this look, huh?” Lucian still teased me, earning a glare from me.
He laughed teasingly, and the driver started driving the car away from this doomed pack.
I could see Adrian and Naisha standing at the border station, looking at our side sneakily, but I didn’t pay attention to them.
“After we reach the pack, arrange a full investigation on Adrian, his family, Naisha, and this pack. Everything about this pack is off, especially the bond between Adrian and Naisha.” I instructed him with a grim expression, playing the whole of my time in the pack.
“I am not Ethan, bro. I have a company to run.” Lucian scoffed annoyingly, but I glared hard at him again.
I snorted with a harsh groan and looked away.
“Do you know that Amber can mind-link with her family, but her eyes never haze?" I snapped my head in his direction, my eyes widening in disbelief.
He looked at me with a fake surprise.
“You didn’t notice?” He asked me with the same fake surprise in his voice.
“This girl is not that simple, bro, and I am telling you, I have this strong hunch that something happened to her wolf before she could surface. Amber is not born wolf-less.” Lucian spoke in a righteous tone, but it went awry in the end.
I listened to him with tightly knit brows.
“When did you notice that she can mind-link? How did you know about that?” I asked him in a cold and low voice.
“When we were in the station room, she was presenting the data with a cold face and a firm voice. But she paused here and there for a few seconds. I noticed that at the same time, Daniel’s eyes hazed, but only partially.” He told me with a serious expression.
How did I not notice that simple thing in front of my eyes?
“Because I am an observer, remember?” Lucian remarked cocily.
I grimaced and looked in the other direction.
Beast blocked me the second she moved away to the second car.
Now, I was alone, nursing my own wounds.
I suddenly remembered something and looked at Lucian once again. He was now looking outside the window, putting his earbuds to listen to some music.
This was his usual routine during a long ride.
"You said that Daniel's eyes hazed partially?" I asked him, making him stop putting an earbud in his ear, and nodded in agreement while looking at me questioningly.
"That's not possible, Lucian," I argued in a serious tone.
"But this is what they do, bro. We are royals, yet except for you and me, the rest of our family members have to stop moving during the mind-link. When I went to her home this morning, except Laila, both Daniel's and David's eyes were partially hazed while Amber's eyes remained natural," he explained to me flatly.
My mate was full of surprises.
She was completely different from my first mate, Clara.
I felt a faint pain in my chest when I remembered Clara. Her smiling face and dark green eyes filled with the sparks of life....
Her cracking laughter always made my gloomy life bloom with flowers.
In a blink, not only did I lose her, but also my unborn pup.
"You need to move on from the past, bro. I know that it's hard, but staying there is not going to bring them back." Lucian comforted me in a serious and low tone.
I smiled bitterly, but didn't look at him.
It's easy to say, but hard to do.
