Chapter 19 making them members
Chapter 19 making them members
Lucifer’s P.O.V. (Continued)
“Amber.” Her name left my lips before I could stop myself when she moved to the cars behind mine.
She stopped in her tracks and looked in our direction. Daniel was holding a duffel bag with him.
“Yes, my king?” she asked politely, but her tone was controlled and distant.
That distance again.
It irritated something deep inside me. Beast also snarled in displeasure, but his anger was towards me.
“You’ll ride with me,” I said, more of a statement than a suggestion.
She stiffened lightly, but that crossed as quickly as it came.
“I beg your pardon for my defiance, my king, but this doesn’t seem appropriate.” She replied to me in that same respectful yet distant tone.
Her quiet refusal hurt more than a sharp stab of a knife.
My gaze darkened, and my demeanor went cold immediately.
Lucian choked on his own breath as if he were trying not to laugh to save my face in front of my mate and the warriors around us.
Even Ethan suppressed his intrigued chuckle.
“You forgot that you are under my command now, Amber.” I asserted my authority over her, and I regretted speaking like this to her.
For goddess’ sake, she is my mate!!!!!!
Not my subject…
Not only her, but Daniel also stiffened beside her, his brotherly instinct clearly shielding her behind his body.
She slowly looked in my direction and held my gaze. There was no flinch or ripple in her gaze as they should have been there.
She was my mate for goddess’ sake, but it doesn’t look like she was looking at her mate.
It looked like she was looking at her superior, not at her mate.
“I know, my king, but you put me under Beta Ethan’s supervision. He is my superior now, and I am yet to join the royal pack. For now, I ….. I am just a rogue. In a few minutes, my scent will change, and it will not be good for you, Prince Lucian, my king.” She replied to me calmly with a clear, polite, and blunt refusal, but it also made me understand another problem here.
The whole beta family has turned into rogues.
“Wait.” I stopped her when she was about to move again.
“Daniel. Call your brother and his mate here.” I instructed him while deciding on something that I could do to help them.
Hazel furrowed her brows immediately, but I didn’t look at her this time.
“What is it?” Ethan asked me in a curious tone.
“Get me a glass or a bowl,” I instructed him through mind-link.
His eyes widened in surprise, but he didn’t say a word again.
“Yes, my king,” Daniel replied to me stiffly, and his eyes hazed for a few seconds.
“You want them to make a member of the royal pack?” Lucian asked me in a surprised tone.
I just hummed in response while looking at Hazel, who had lowered her eyes again.
I wanted her to look at me, but I couldn’t mind-link her.
“She is our second chance, mate, Lucifer. The goddess blessed us with happiness again. I am not happy with your decision not to mark her, because I understand the stakes. Yet I will not let you hurt her, not even once.” Beast warned me with an angry growl.
I scoffed, ignoring him completely.
Yes, I couldn’t acknowledge her as my mate in front of others because I still don’t know who killed my Clara and our unborn child.
The royal family had a lot of enemies inside and outside our family tree.
Yes, my own uncle and aunts want me and Lucian dead, and I am sure that one of them or more than one of them is responsible for Clara and my unborn pup’s death.
I can’t take risks with Amber’s life.
Both David and Laila approach Daniel and Hazel directly.
“My king. You called us," David asked me politely, showing his respect towards his king.
“I know that you have a successful business in the human world, and you don’t need to be in a pack to live, but you also know that a rogue can’t stay sane for a long time. Wolves need a pack, not only for a proper home and safety but also to stay sane.” I replied calmly.
They all stiffened immediately and glanced at each other.
“You are about to welcome your first pup. Naturally, you will want a safety net for your pup, not a constant threat of being hunted by other pack wolves or rogues out there.” I continued in the same manner.
David looked at all of his family members with a troubled expression and then looked back at me.
“I believe that my king has something in his mind.” He spoke calmly as if he already knew what I was about to do next.
“Are you ready for that?” I asked him directly. He smiled faintly.
“Hazel will be a member of the royal pack as soon as we reach the pack, but if you want, we can do the ritual right here to make all of you the royal pack members. This way, your family bond will stay intact all the time.” I added it calmly, looking at Ethan, who got a small bowl from a warrior.
“We still have some time. If you want to discuss it with your family, you can. This is a suggestion, not an order.” I said further with the same calmness.
“No need to waste time, my king. I know that you meant well, and.” David paused and looked at his family with a faint smile.
“They didn’t mind-link each other, did they?” Ethan asked me through mind-link.
“This is the best option that we have, my king. We all sincerely thank you for not letting us be a rogue.” David spoke further with the same faint smile, and all of them bowed in front of me.
I wanted to stop them. They were now my family too, but I resisted my urge to stop them from bowing in front of me.
“Very well, then.” I gestured for them to come closer so that we could complete the ritual.
“You….. you can’t do this, my king. They abandoned their birth pack. They are nothing but traitors.” I growled thunderously when Adrian interrupted us.
“Do I need your permission to do something, Adrian?” I asked him angrily, making both him and Naisha tremble so hard in fear that they almost fell to their butts.
This pack is meant to be doomed under their leadership.
"And don't forget that you were also in a hurry to break the bond with them. You lost your beta today, and yet, you have no heartbreak or sadness on your face. Now I am having doubts about your treatment of your beta family. Do you want me to investigate this?" My threat was clear and loud to everyone around us.
His eyes widened in horror, and for some reason, doubts appeared at the back of my mind.
What if Adrian really did something that Daniel, the beta of the pack, couldn't tolerate?
What if........
