Chapter 21 they welcomed me
Chapter 21 they welcomed me
Amber’s P.O.V.
“Everyone. This is Amber Holt. She got transferred to our pack last night, and she will work with us as the lead strategist under my assistance.” Ethan introduced me to everyone in a formal and commanding tone.
“Lead strategist? Didn’t we already have two lead strategists?” A he-wolf, probably a gamma by blood with brown hair and dark chocolatey eyes, asked with a confused expression on his face.
“Yup, but she proved her worth to be part of our team two nights ago when our convoy was attacked. She was the one who not only strategized the whole defense attack in just a few minutes, but also fought fiercely beside our king.” Ethan praised me in the same tone, but I felt awkward.
I wasn’t used to hearing praises.
“Amber Holt?” I flinched harder when suddenly someone yelled my name at the top of his lungs.
“Oh my goddess!!!! Is this really you?” I jumped behind Ethan in fear when I saw a tower of muscles with dark blue eyes and blonde hair charging towards me. That goofy grin and those sparks in his eyes were terrifying.
“Hold your horses, Gabriel.” Ethan scolded him, and I just stared at him with wide eyes in fear.
He wasn’t scary.
He…. He has a friendly vibe, but the way he charged on me was scary.
“Oh, come on, Ethan. You don’t know about her, but I know everything about her professional life. She is the youngest and smartest student in the history of Charleston University. She had her graduation degree in computer science when she was 18, and is about to get her master's. Not only that, but she also has a dual degree in.”
“Mr…. Mr. Fritzman.” I interrupted him in panic, stopping him in his blabbering.
Goddess!!!!!!
That was really embarrassing.
With his scary persona, this fangirl behavior really didn’t fit well.
It actually made him scarier.
“I didn’t know that you were this impressive, Amber,” Ethan remarked with an amusing chuckle.
“He…. He is exaggerating.” I replied to him awkwardly, fiddling with my fingers in the presence, and didn’t know where to look right now.
“I am not.” Gabriel refused, but Ethan grunted, giving him a warning.
“Okay. Let me introduce you to everyone in our team.” Ethan spoke to me calmly, and I nodded in response.
It took me a few seconds to pull myself together again and look back at the people in front of me.
It turned out the first person with brown hair was also from the royal gamma family, Gabriel’s younger cousin.
They were all still doubtful towards me, but they still welcomed me warmly. I could see the same doubt in their eyes that I had always seen in people’s eyes around me.
“One more thing,” Ethan spoke in the end, making me look back at him questioningly.
“You will have two training sessions every day—one in the morning at 4 and the second in the evening after clocking out. No rest, not even in those special days.” Ethan spoke further with that casual remark in the end.
“Umm…. Beta Ethan.” Someone interrupted us in a very low voice. I pursed my lips into a thin line.
There it goes….
The same doubt…. And the same disdain….
“I know what you want to ask Bill. Amber lost her wolf during a rogue’s attack on her pack when she was only fifteen. Her wolf sacrificed her life to save her human. That’s why you can’t sense her wolf.” Ethan replied to him calmly.
But I froze…..
“Wow!!!! Her wolf must be a heck of a force!” Someone exclaimed in awe, but my mind was still repeating Ethan’s words.
“You should have seen the footage that we managed to get from the surveillance cameras there. The way she fought with our king….. no word is enough to praise that.” Ethan continued, but I couldn’t even breathe.
Did he know something, or did he make an excuse to save me some dignity?
Questioning him will raise doubts.
But I wanted to know why he said that?
“Now, everyone…. Back to work. I need to train Amber for today.” Ethan clapped while ordering everyone to go back to work.
“Come with me,” Ethan said to me after that.
I followed him in a daze, but I felt everyone’s gaze on me.
The only difference was that I didn’t feel any disdain in their gazes.
“This will be your seat from now on. I want you to prepare a report on the incidents two nights ago. I have sent you my preliminary report on that incident.” He instructed me as I opened my laptop and gave me my new work email address and password.
“Thanks, Ethan.” I thanked him in a low but sincere tone.
“No need for thanks, Amber. We are in the same team now, and don’t forget that you are now our pack member.” He replied to me with a faint and assuring smile.
Just like David smiles at me…
The way Daniel assured me while smiling.
“For….. for earlier,” I whispered, lowering my eyes in the process.
He didn’t say anything, just patted my shoulder lightly.
I glanced at him and saw him looking at me with a knowing smile, but I couldn't pinpoint the meaning of that smile.
“And don’t be scared of Gabriel, okay? He looks scary, but he is the kindest-hearted person here.” He told me with a faint smile.
I raised my brows in surprise, and he just patted my shoulder again before walking away.
I was given a cubicle at the far end of the rows of cubicles.
There were five rows, and every row had five cubicles. I was in the fourth row from the entrance.
I opened the attachment that Ethan sent me and started working on the report that he asked me to prepare.
I looked up when I felt someone coming near me.
I raised my brows questioningly when I saw that everyone around me had stood up and were looking at me curiously.
Even the ones in the close cubicles were now popping up.
I blinked, dumbfounded, not knowing why they were looking at me like this.
The relief was that they didn’t have any disdain or disgust in their gazes, but curiosity and admiration.
“What?” I asked them curiously. I wasn’t used to these kinds of gazes. So, yes, I was a bit scared.
We had seven she-wolves here, too. Furthermore, they were looking at me with a curious gaze.
“Are you really about to finish your master’s?” Greg, Gabriel’s cousin, asked me excitedly.
I smiled awkwardly, looking at them with an embarrassing gaze.
“Y…..eah.” I answered, feeling really awkward.
“Wow!!!! You are the fourth person who finished her degree at such a young age.” Clara, a she-wolf in the opposite cubicle, exclaimed excitedly.
I wasn’t surprised when she said I was the fourth one, because the royal pack already had three people who had finished their graduation and master’s degrees before they turned 21.
King Lucifer, Prince Lucian, and Beta Ethan….
“Hey, will you be my sparring partner this evening?” Someone suddenly asked me from the second row.
