Chapter 139 The village
Chapter 139 The village
ELARA’S POV
Alicent walked into the hall, squinted her eyes a bit as if noticing the tension between us, before plopping into the seat beside me.
“What's going on?” she asked, looking between Lioren and I.
“Oh, just settling a lovers quarrel” Lioren answered before I could.
“Ohhh, is this about Beros?” she whispered, facing Lioren.
Liroen nodded “they're having some issues” she whispered back.
“You do know I'm right here, don't you?” I asked. They went quiet before bursting into laughter. What was so funny?
I watched them laugh for a long time before the laughter died down, I didn't even have the energy in me to be pissed at anyone, not now.
“Alicent, you said there was something happening at the packs?” I asked, cutting off their laughter.
“Oh, yes” she said, still giggling softly. I cocked my head at her.
“Well, say it”
“They've been fighting”
“Huh?” Who was fighting?
“The alphas, they've been getting into fights”. She said. That was shocking, why would they be getting into fights? They were there to keep the peace and rule the wolves until it was time for war.
“Why is that?” I asked.
Alicent shrugged “from what I heard, there's been disagreements”
“Disagreements? Over what?”
“Rules, their egos aren't letting them listen to one another, if one makes a suggestion and the other Alpha doesn't buy it, they end up challenging each other to duels”
“What?” my eyes grew wide “impossible”
“No it isn't, it's happening”.
That was impossible. Why would they be fighting over such minimal things?
“Why? What?” I couldn't even find the right words to say. To say I was shocked would be an understatement.
“And there's also something else” Alicent said, making me snap my head towards her. What could it possibly be now? What could be more worse than hearing about supposed leaders fighting each other, and all for what?
“Oh, what is it again?” it was Lioren, I guess she was feeling the same way I was.
“There's been rumors about you, they say you're not real, and this might just be a ploy to bring all the wolves under one leadership”
What? I thought I couldn't be more shocked, but my mouth was hanging open.
I had to gather myself before speaking “that must be why the alphas keep fighting”
“Yup” Alicent said “they probably think you're not real too and want to gain control over all the packs, amass as much power as they can”.
“That's – that's absurd”
“It's happening Elara, I've tried sending warnings, but nothing seems to be working”. But I already had the solution.
After I thought for a while, I told them.
“I'll go there”
Alicent and Lioren turned to look at me.
“What?” they said simultaneously.
“Yes, I think I have to make my presence known there, it is only necessary that they see who they are fighting for.
“Elara, I don't think –”
“I think that's a great idea” Alicent said, effectively cutting off what Lioren was about to say.
“And why do you think so?” Lioren asked, glaring at Alicent.
“It's only proper” she said “the wolves need to know who they serve, it will bring unity among them”. Alicent was right. I should have even gone there sooner, it just didn't occur to me.
“So when do we leave” Alicent asked.
I stood up from my chair without a second thought “today”.
Her eyes widened but she stood up with me too.
“Fine by me, those egotistical alphas need to be put in place” she said, smiling as she did so.
“Wait wait, isn't it too sudden?” Lioren asked.
I shook my head “no it isn't, it's something that needs to be done, and I'll do it now. What better time than now?”
After all, Beros was nowhere to be seen and he wasn't talking to me. I would just have to handle things myself since he didn't want to be around me for now, and this included visiting the wolves village, they needed a leader and a leader I would be.
“But Elara, don't tell me you're doing this to avoid Beros” Lioren tried again. I looked at her, trying to understand why she was against me going to visit the wolves.
“Lioren, I need some time too, to think and all, and this would be a nice way to do that, plus, I actually need to see the wolves”
“Okay then, how long will you be gone?”
“Shouldn't be more than a day, but if there's anything there that needs my attention, I might have to handle it”
She nodded “okay, that's alright. I'll inform Beros if he asks”.
I simply nodded and Alicent and I walked out of the room.
Once outside, Alicent stopped me. “Are you okay?” she asked, her eyebrows furrowing as she took in my features.
“I'm alright Alicent, lets just get this done” I said. She seemed hesitant, as if she wanted to ask more questions, press me to say more, but I was relieved when she nodded and we continued moving on.
“So how are we getting there? You can't shift” she asked.
I chucked, a real one “I don't need to. You don't need to either”.
Her eyes narrowed “are you going to be doing some deity stuff to get us there?”
I nodded “precisely”.
As I said so, I took her hands in mine and closed my eyes to call on my power.
Within a second, I could feel the power washing all over me, it was time to go.
“Hold on” I told her. Her hands gripped mine tighter, and within a second, we were soaring through time and space.
When it was over, I opened my eyes and we were at the edge of the village. I could feel the magic of the protection I had put in place too, wash over me.
I had secretly put a protection over the wolves to keep anyone from harming them or getting into the village without my protection.
Alicent opened her eyes too and we began walking towards the village.
