Chapter 48
(Juliette's POV).
"Can't you let me go out for some fresh air?" I asked while looking at Xavider who had just walked into my room. For days I just stayed in my room without being able to do anything. Now and then Xander would see me to make sure I was okay.
"Do you want to go out?" he asked. He walked closer to the bed. I immediately dragged my body to the side to keep my distance from him.
"Yes. I don't want to be locked up like a bird. It makes me stressed. Even if you don't want anything bad to happen to me and my baby wolf," I said. I tried to provoke him even though I knew that he was worried about us. But if what Sam told me was true, if Xander liked me if I resembled his dead mate. Of course, Xander would treat me well.
"I'll let you out, but on one condition," he said.
I furrowed my brow. He kept looking at me in a way that made me feel uncomfortable. "What is it?
"You won't try to escape from me."
"You think I can escape while you have so many people watching me?"
"If you can escape Damian, I know you can escape me," he said.
I swallowed hard. I needed to make her believe that I wouldn't run away from her even if I had those thoughts.
"I also had no goals. I no longer care about anything other than my baby's safety. But if you still don't trust me, you can have someone to follow me."
"Like a nanny?" he asked as he touched his chin. He looked back at me with a smile. "That's not a bad idea. I'll have to accompany you from today. If you want to go out, don't go out too far. Do you understand?"
I was surprised at how easy it was for me to get Xander to agree to my request. Was he really interested in me? However, after hearing Sam's story, I felt bad for him. Because he had lost the woman he loved to Damian.
"Thank you, Xander," I whispered. He looked at me without blinking. A little surprised to hear me say thank you, I saw him smile a little.
"You're thanking me after what I did to you?" he stood up and held out his hand. "Come here," he ordered.
I was confused by what he wanted, but I did as he asked. I got out of bed and reached out my hand to his. Immediately he pulled me into his arms.
"What are you doing?" I asked frantically. I tried to push his body with both hands. "Please let go of me," I pleaded.
"I wondered what it would be like to have a mate like you," he said.
"Wh-what?" I gaped in disbelief. My eyes tremble with panic and fear.
"Don't you want to forget Damian and start your new life with me? I can behave better than Damian. At least I never killed an innocent person," he said. He pulled my chin and looked at me intently. "I can love you better than him."
"I'm still Damian's mate even though we've been separated. You can't claim me as your mate," I said, trying to reject him gently.
He grinned. "I don't really care about all that. You just need to forget Damian and love me. How?"
"Please don't be like this," I whispered frantically and immediately turned my face away when he attempted to kiss me. I heard him growl in annoyance and cuss.
"Fuck."
This is bad. It seemed like she was angry with me.
"You rejected me without even thinking first?"
"No, it's not like that!" I exclaimed in panic. Afraid that he'd get mad at me and do something bad to me and my baby. "I'm just not ready to start a new relationship," I lied.
I should pay more attention to my demeanor in front of Xander and not make him angry. I had to play it safe while thinking of a way to escape from here.
"Do you need time?" he asked.
"Yes," I replied. I pushed him back as he brought his face closer to mine. "Xander," I whispered in protest.
"All right," he said suddenly. He released her embrace and looked at me. "I'll give you time to think. But I don't want an answer that makes me disappointed. You know what I mean, right?" he warned.
I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. Before I could give him an answer, I had to get out of here or I wouldn't be able to live freely. I'm trying to stay away from Damian, and I don't want to get caught again in the hands of another Alpa. Moreover, they have a bad relationship. They are enemies.

Later that evening, I heard the door open and saw Agatha walk into my room. I was surprised at her appearance. This was the first time I met her after I left Damian's pack.
"Agatha?!" I shouted walking towards her.
She ran over frantically and hugged me. Her body was shaking and she was sobbing while holding my hands. What was going on? Why is she crying like this? Has Sam done something bad to her?
"Juliette, oh my..."
"What's wrong, Agatha? Are you okay?" I asked frantically. I rubbed her arm and tried to calm her down, but she was still crying. I pulled her hand away and invited her to sit on the sofa. "Calm down. Breathe, Agatha..."
Agatha did as I told her. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She wiped away her tears with the back of her hand and looked at me with a puffy face.
"Are you feeling better?" I asked, still rubbing her arm. Trying to calm her down.
She nodded. "I'm sorry that I suddenly appeared and cried. But I couldn't stop myself from crying when I saw you. I feel a sense of guilt and mom makes my heart ache, Juliette."
"Guilt?"
"Everything you experienced. I was involved too. I thought Sam would help you escape Damian and let you live on your own. But I didn't know that he would turn you over to Xander. I'm really sorry for you, Juliette."
So, she felt guilty for what had happened to me? But she was also getting threats from Damian so she couldn't refuse either. But it seemed like I could ask her for a favor and use her guilt to help me.
"If you feel guilty. Agatha... can you help me to leave here?"
