Chapter 40
(Juliette's POV).
"Move aside. I'm going out," I snapped as I saw Kaye suddenly standing in front of me, blocking my footsteps.
[You're pregnant and you should stay home.]
I glared at her. "Who are you to set me up? Get out of my way, Kaye!" I pushed her body roughly and she pulled my hand away.
I felt so angry and disgusted when his hand touched me. It reminded me of how cruelly he had killed my parents.
"Don't touch me!" I shouted, dismissing his hand roughly. "Don't try to touch me," I hissed at him.
[I'm just doing my job to protect you. Alpha Damian will get angry if he finds out you left the house.]
"I'm not a lap dog who has to be at home all the time. I have the right to do whatever I want," I said. I walked away from him, but he kept following me from behind.
I didn't know where to go. Every day I had to be at home and it made me very bored. Especially faithful when I would always remember what Damian had done to my family and it clashed with the gentle and sweet gestures he had done to me. It made my heart fight about whether I loved him or not.
I just wanted to get some air soon and forget all my troubles for a moment. I wanted to run away, but I couldn't. So I just wandered around like a fool while Kaye continued to follow me from behind.
"Juliette."
I turned my head quickly to the side as I heard Sam's voice calling my name. And I saw him walking towards me.
"Sam?"
"What are you doing here?" he asked. He looked at me with a confused expression on his face. And when he noticed Kaye's figure watching me, he changed his attitude to alert.
"Damian asked him to keep an eye out. All the time," I informed him while glancing at Kaye. "Go on. I want to talk to Sam," I ordered.
I saw Kaye about to type something on his cell phone and I quickly insisted on telling him to leave. Until he reluctantly left the two of us to chat. But I was sure he was still there and watching us secretly.
"You look pale," Sam said.
I smiled wryly. "Maybe because I'm going to die?"
Because I too had lost my zest for life and I was going through this all because of the baby wolf I was carrying. I just wanted to make sure they were born safely. That was the only gift I could give them before I decided to end my life. Because there was no point in me living while I had to endure regret and sadness.
"I heard you were pregnant."
I widened my eyes at Sam. I touched my stomach gently. It seems like the news spread quickly.
I nodded. "Yes. I'm pregnant."
"Are you okay?"
I looked at Sam who walked a step closer towards me. I felt a sudden flood of emotions strike me as Sam looked at me with a look of pity. And I couldn't stop my tears from freely falling down my cheeks.
"No." I shook my head. "I'm not okay, Sam."
"Fuck!" he cursed loudly as he pulled me up and hugged me so tightly.
It's been so long since I've felt this warm embrace touch my body. My heart was beating so fast, but I realized that it was no longer because of my love for Sam.
"Sorry," he whispered.
"For what?" I asked.
"He's still my cousin. I don't even know anything about what he has done to us."
I pushed him away and hurriedly wiped away my tears. "There's nothing to forgive or regret. We're both victims after all," I said.
Sam with his love for Agatha. And me with my stupid love for Damian. Although we already had our mate, Sam's love story was much better than my pathetic one.
"I hope you and Agatha live a happy life. I mean it," I said to him.
"Juliette."
"Don't look at me with that pitying expression, Sam. It makes me feel ashamed," I admitted. I felt like my pride was being trampled on and it really hurt me.
"What are you going to do now?" he asked. He looked around as if he was making sure Kaye wasn't there to eavesdrop on our conversation. "Don't you want to leave Damian? You don't deserve to be beside him. Not to mention you're pregnant. That's what Damian wants most, to have offspring."
I shook my head. "I don't know my destination if I decide to go. Especially since I'm pregnant. I couldn't even go out freely because he told Kaye to keep an eye on me. I'm like a bird living in a cage," I sneered at myself.
Feeling sorry for myself for living such a miserable life. I didn't even have an idea of what my future would be like. Probably stuck living with Damian without even a hint of happiness coming my way.
"I'll help you. Do you want me to help you?"
I widened my eyes. Staring at Sam in disbelief. "What do you mean?"
"You can't stay in Damian's control, Juliette. He killed your parents. He deliberately separated us so that he could have you. He is powerful when you are by his side. That's why, you have to leave him to let him know that he's weak if you're not around."
I furrowed my brow. Feeling confused by what Sam had said to me. Frustration and indecision attacked me and I didn't know what to do. My mind was in chaos.
"I'm leaving Damian?"
"You can live your life better without Damian. I will help you. Start a new life with your baby wolf."
"But I don't have a destination. I can't just leave and jeopardize my baby wolf's safety," I said uneasily.
Can I do it? Long live Damian's mark? I still feel doubtful and afraid that something bad will happen to my baby wolf when I leave him. But, I also couldn't be calm and happy if I stayed beside Damian while I hated him.
"You can blend in with the humans. Or go to another pack to stay. I will help you."
"Why?" I asked, looking at him. "Why do you want to help me?"
"Because I hate Damian too."
