Chapter 272 Treating Miss Gwyneth is My Honor
After Eugene and Rose left the restaurant, they got in the car and drove straight back to the coffee shop they'd been at earlier.
The coffee shop was Eugene's own place. The first floor was open to customers, and the second floor was where they usually hung out.
Not being able to kill Isabella in one go left Rose feeling frustrated.
"I have to kill her before she leaves."
Otherwise, once Isabella returned to Lumaria, she'd lose her chance.
Eugene helped her sit down, a cold look flashing in his eyes. "Then I'll have someone keep a close eye on her. Once you've recovered, we'll make our move."
——
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
Bodhi Whitley, head of the Whitley family, rushed over as soon as he heard that Damon had been beaten up.
Damon had been sent to the emergency room. When they wheeled him out, he looked terrible.
The doctor said several of his ribs were broken, he had serious internal injuries, and his organs were damaged to varying degrees, but he was now out of danger.
Bodhi could hardly believe that someone had dared to beat Damon up like this. Doing so was clearly a challenge to the Whitley family.
"Who has the guts to do this? To hurt someone from the Whitley family so badly!" Bodhi's face was grim. "I'm going to kill that person!"
Vance stepped forward. "Dad, it was a girl from Lumaria named Isabella who beat Damon up like this!"
"Isabella..." Bodhi committed the name to memory, then said sternly, "Where is she? I'll take people to grab her right now. Whichever hand hurt my brother, I'll chop off that hand!"
And he'd make her kneel at Damon's bedside and apologize!
Hearing this, Vance immediately said, "Dad, I know where she is! I had someone follow her. They saw her check into the Golden Crown Hotel."
"Good." Bodhi was decisive. "Then I'll go grab her now."
"Dad, going now might not be a good idea," Vance advised. "At this hour, lots of people are checking into the hotel. It wouldn't look good if someone saw us."
Novaria had law enforcement too. Grabbing someone so openly would definitely attract their attention.
Bodhi paused, his brow furrowing, then changed his mind. "Then we'll wait until tonight."
Tonight, he would make sure Isabella died.
"Vance, you stay here and watch over Damon. I'm going to talk to the doctor."
"Okay."
Without another word, Bodhi pushed open the hospital room door and headed down the hallway toward the attending physician's office.
At the same time, two people had just emerged from the stairwell.
"Mr. Powell, isn't that Bodhi?"
The young man beside Efren stared at Bodhi's figure, narrowing his eyes.
Efren also took a second look. "What's he doing at the hospital?"
Just as Efren asked this, someone behind them spoke up. "Damon got beaten up. He just came out of the emergency room. Bodhi's here to see Damon."
Efren turned around to find an elderly man had appeared behind them. It was the doctor he was looking for—Lester Harrison.
"Dr. Harrison?" Efren reacted, bowing respectfully to Lester. "I was just about to come find you. Didn't expect to run into you here."
Lester was already in his seventies, but still full of energy.
"Are you here about your sister's headaches?"
Efren nodded. "That's right. My sister's headaches haven't gotten better. All the doctors can't find the cause. I really had no choice but to come to you."
Actually, Lester had always been well-known, but the reason Efren hadn't sought him out before was that Lester wasn't exactly a doctor—he was a conditioning specialist who only handled physical conditioning for hypnotists.
Hypnotists generally had worse health than ordinary people, and some would find specialized conditioning specialists to help with their health, which is how this profession came about.
There was also another situation: when hypnotists over-exerted themselves, they'd develop mental weakness or headaches and other problems, and could also see Lester for treatment.
"It would be my honor to treat your sister," Lester said humbly. "In that case, I'll go with Mr. Powell to take a look. If I can cure Ms. Powell's headaches, that would be wonderful."
"Thank you, Dr. Harrison."
"Let me get my tools and I'll be right there."
"Okay."
Efren watched Lester leave, and when Lester returned with his case, they entered the elevator together and went straight to the first floor.
"By the way, Dr. Harrison, you mentioned earlier that Damon got beaten up. Who beat him?" Efren asked.
Lester shook his head. "I don't know about that."
He'd only heard a few words from other doctors and hadn't asked for details.
Efren nodded and didn't say anything more.
After leaving the hospital, Efren invited Lester into a car.
The car drove straight toward the Powell family castle.
Lester sat in the back seat, saying nothing, just silently running his fingers over his tool case.
Efren glanced at him. "What are you thinking about, Dr. Harrison?"
"I'm thinking that you coming to me must have been a decision you made after careful consideration?"
He specialized in treating hypnotists. By coming to him, Efren was basically telling him that Gwyneth was a hypnotist, which confirmed that Gwyneth practiced both ancient martial arts and hypnosis.
Efren sighed. "Some things can't be kept secret forever."
Everyone knew how valuable it was to practice both ancient martial arts and hypnosis. When Gwyneth was young and her parents discovered this talent of hers, they were shocked but immediately decided to keep it hidden.
The Powell family was too powerful, and the position of Powell family head held too much power—even more than the king. The seven great families appeared harmonious on the surface, but in reality, each one wanted to replace the Powell family, even forming secret alliances behind the scenes.
If the other six families found out about Gwyneth's talent, countless eyes would be on her, and countless people would want to get rid of her.
After all, with Gwyneth around, she would definitely become their biggest threat in bringing down the Powell family.
Back then, Gwyneth was too young. For adult ancient martial arts professionals, killing such a small girl would have been too easy.
So they kept it secret until Gwyneth came of age.
Finally making it through Gwyneth's "newbie protection period," the Powell family breathed a sigh of relief.
But then Gwyneth became rebellious as a teenager and suddenly ran away from home one day. She was gone for over twenty years, and no one knew where she went. Her parents never found her, until four years ago when Gwyneth finally came back...
Thinking of this, Efren looked helpless.
After Gwyneth returned, she'd been having constant headaches. They'd consulted more and more doctors, and those doctors could basically figure out some clues. So even though they'd paid hush money, some information inevitably leaked out.
"Don't worry, Mr. Powell. I'll keep this completely confidential," Lester said.
