Chapter 104: How Can I Help?
I knew Henry would hear about this soon enough.
"Yes, Atlas helped find a buyer. That batch of cars already has a purchaser. To thank him, I specifically had Lyndon come along, and we had dinner together."
Henry nodded and said, "We should thank him. Selling that shipment has really relieved a lot of pressure on the company, but you two..."
I said somewhat helplessly, "Dad, I'm not in the mood to think about personal matters right now."
Henry said thoughtfully, "I'm not old-fashioned. Although the Lancaster family's situation is a bit complicated, I still think highly of Atlas as a person. If possible, you could get to know him better."
"I will."
After saying that, I turned and walked out. "I'm going to rest now."
Back in my room, I closed my eyes but couldn't fall asleep. I knew Knox and Xavier wouldn't be detained for long and would be released soon.
Once they were released, it would be another test for the Lockwood family.
And there was John's family eyeing hungrily, plus Rosalind's support behind them - not to be underestimated.
Honestly, if I could help it, I really didn't want to drag Atlas into this messy situation.
But I knew that given Atlas's temperament, he definitely wouldn't listen to me. I sighed, though this life was much better than my previous one.
At least in this life I was prepared, and with Knox and Xavier's schemes exposed, they no longer had the means to fight against me.
Thinking of this, I suddenly realized I hadn't received a call from Quincy all day. I was really worried. I wanted to call her, but seeing how late it was, I thought better of it.
The next morning when I woke up, the first thing I did was call Quincy. On the other end, she was yawning and mumbling complaints, "Helena, what are you doing? Why are you calling so early?"
"How's the investigation going on that person I asked you to look into?"
When I asked about this, Quincy became much more alert.
"I checked - there's no problem."
"Really no problem?"
Seeing I didn't believe her, she said, "I'll send you the information I found right now."
Soon, Zachary's information arrived on my phone.
It was pretty much what I'd guessed - Zachary's parents were both dead, he came from a poor family, he'd worked to earn some money and started investing in business, and he was also a race car driver.
While I was reading, Quincy called again.
"See, I told you there was no problem."
"Looking at his background, he's had it pretty tough. He's a hardworking and ambitious young man."
Hearing Quincy's admiring tone, I felt uneasy, knowing I hadn't managed to dissuade her but had instead made her more interested in Zachary.
I moistened my lips nervously, trying desperately to convince her, "Quincy, you still shouldn't get too close to Zachary. Your experiences and backgrounds are different - you move in completely different circles."
"I know. Alright, stop worrying and go to work."
Seeing that she hadn't taken my words to heart at all, I was secretly anxious. No, I had to find a way to prevent her from getting hurt like in my previous life.
After thinking it over, I called Kenneth and quickly arranged to meet at the coffee shop downstairs from his company.
After waiting a long time, Kenneth came running over, out of breath.
"Sorry, Helena, for keeping you waiting."
Kenneth looked apologetic. "I got a call from a client at the last minute."
I nodded. "It's okay, I had nothing going on this morning anyway."
Hearing this, Kenneth relaxed, ordered a latte, took a sip and looked at me. "Are you looking for me about company matters?"
When he mentioned the company, I smiled. "Seems like everyone knows about the Lockwood family's troubles."
"Sorry Helena, that was my mistake. I shouldn't have brought it up so rashly. But I'm still happy for you."
"Being able to see a man's true colors before marriage is really lucky. Congratulations on getting a fresh start."
"Thank you, Kenneth, but I'm here today about a personal matter."
Hearing me say this, Kenneth glanced at me. "Well, I'd better listen carefully then. It's rare for you to come to me about personal matters."
"To be precise, it's not my personal matter - it's Quincy's."
Hearing my words, Kenneth put away his teasing expression and became more serious. "What's wrong with Quincy? Did something happen to her?"
"No, no, Kenneth, don't worry. Nothing happened to Quincy. I just wanted to ask how things are between her and her family now."
Hearing my words, Kenneth finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He laughed mockingly. "What do you think? Same as always."
"My dad is getting old and hopes she'll come back to take over the company, but you know Quincy's temperament. This matter has just been dragging on until now."
Hearing this, I asked, "How is Mr. Blake doing these days?"
Kenneth shook his head. "Not well. Last night he said his heart hurt and was sent to the hospital again."
"What about Quincy? Has she gone to visit?"
Kenneth sighed. "I just got a call from my mom saying Quincy went, but when she saw my mother at the hospital entrance, she put down the flowers and left again."
Looking at his pained expression, I didn't know where to begin with the words of advice I wanted to say.
Perhaps to outsiders, Quincy seemed too heartless, but no one was Quincy - they couldn't stand in her position and criticize her.
When she had just lost her mother and desperately needed her father, her father Alan turned around and brought another woman home.
The impact on her was obvious.
"Kenneth, do you have any ideas? If possible, I hope I can help."
"You?"
Kenneth looked at me strangely. "Helena, why are you saying this today? Has something happened?"
I hadn't expected Kenneth to be so perceptive.
Afraid he'd become suspicious, I quickly explained, "It's because of Mr. Blake's health, plus Quincy being out on her own - I'm really worried, so I came to discuss it with you."
Seeing my explanation temporarily put Kenneth at ease, I breathed a sigh of relief.
I didn't voice the more important reason - I hoped I could help Quincy stay away from Zachary.
If Quincy took over the company, she'd be surrounded by talented young professionals and would gradually distance herself from Zachary.
This was the only solution I could think of for now.
Hearing me say this, Kenneth nodded. "Helena, regardless, I still thank you. But right now with my dad's poor health, what we urgently need is to get Quincy to the hospital to see him. If the two of them can spend time together and talk, maybe they can work through this."
"Okay, that's the plan then!"
With that, I immediately called Quincy.
"Quincy, I'm at the hospital entrance right now. Come over quickly."
"Why are you at the hospital?"
Quincy's alarmed voice came through the phone. "Wait there, I'm coming right now!"
