Chapter 104: How Can I Help?

Chapter 105 Taking Over the Company

When Quincy arrived out of breath, she saw me standing perfectly fine at the hospital entrance, and instantly got mad.

"Helena, what are you doing? Why did you come to the hospital for no reason!"

"I heard Mr. Blake was sick, so I thought I'd come check on him and bring you along."

As soon as I finished speaking, Quincy saw Kenneth appear behind me, and her expression changed.

"Wait, you called me, fine, but why did you call him too?"

Seeing her angry, I quickly stepped forward and took her arm, saying, "Don't be mad, it was just a coincidence."

"I got to the hospital and just happened to run into Kenneth."

Quincy pointed her index finger at me and said, "Fine, Helena, I see you're playing me for a fool!"

"Alright, since we're already here, let's just go up and visit."

With that, I held onto Quincy's hand and dragged her into the hospital.

Unable to break free, Quincy had no choice but to follow me inside.

Behind us, Kenneth watched Quincy with an affectionate smile, shook his head, and followed along.

When we reached the hospital room door, Quincy's expression turned cold. I pinched her cheek and said, "Come on, smile a little, don't look so serious."

Quincy turned her head away and said quietly, "Make it quick, we'll sit for a bit and then leave."

"Okay, whatever you say."

With that, I pulled her along and opened the door to the room.

Inside, Kenneth's mom, Edna Lynch, was feeding Alan. She froze when she saw us, then stood up excitedly and said, "Quincy, what brings you here?"

Quincy ignored her, looking at Alan in the hospital bed with a stiff voice, "Dad, feeling any better?"

"Much better."

Alan smiled broadly, then quickly directed Edna, "Go cut some fruit for them."

"No need to fuss, we're just taking a quick look and leaving."

Hearing Quincy say this, Alan sighed and shook his head, "You rarely visit, can't you stay and talk with me for a bit?"

"Sure, what do you want to say? Hurry up and say it."

Quincy plopped down unceremoniously, looking completely impatient.

"Alright, I know you resent me, but things between Edna and me aren't what you think. Quincy, I know you're tired of hearing this, but let me explain properly."

"Go ahead, I can hardly gag you, can I?"

Seeing Quincy say this, I knew she and Alan might actually have a proper conversation this time. I quickly tugged at Kenneth's sleeve.

Kenneth immediately understood and said to Edna, "Mom, come out for a moment, I need to ask you something."

Edna nodded, reached over to tuck in Alan's blanket, then stood up saying, "You two talk first."

Quincy kept her head down, not even lifting her eyelids.

Edna didn't mind and got up to follow us out.

Once outside, Edna couldn't help but sigh, "Quincy resents me so deeply, but I'm grateful she came today and was willing to sit and listen to Alan. Helena, thank you so much."

"Edna, you're too kind. I just hope Quincy can resolve things with her family."

Hearing my words, Edna shook her head, "I hope so too. Alan's health is getting worse by the day. Kenneth has no interest in the business and is only managing it out of necessity. It would be wonderful if Quincy could come back."

Kenneth patted Edna's shoulder and silently looked toward the hospital room door.

Just then, the door opened and Quincy rushed out with red-rimmed eyes.

"Quincy."

Sensing something was wrong, I called out, but she ignored me and kept walking toward the elevator without stopping.

"I'll go check on Quincy."

Without waiting for Kenneth or Edna to respond, I hurried after her.

After getting off the elevator, I finally caught up with Quincy and grabbed her, asking urgently, "Quincy, don't rush off, what happened?"

"Helena."

When Quincy looked up, her face was covered in tears, which really scared me. I'd never seen her so vulnerable before.

"Come on, let's find somewhere to talk."

I pulled her to a nearby coffee shop. After sitting down and resting for a bit, she finally calmed down.

"Helena, it's okay. I just thought of my mom, that's all. I just feel so wronged on her behalf."

Quincy grabbed a tissue to wipe the tears from her face. "My guess was right. Dad admitted that he and Mom had been separated for years and only stayed married because of me. As soon as Mom passed away, he couldn't wait to marry Edna."

I hoped Quincy could reconcile with her family, but when it came to her family matters, I couldn't judge who was right or wrong.

All I could do was offer some weak comfort: "I'm sorry. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have come today, and this wouldn't have brought up painful memories."

"It's fine. The facts are what they are. Whether I come back or not, they're still there."

Quincy wiped away her tears.

Watching her like this made me feel bad, but I still tried to comfort her, "Don't cry anymore."

"You're right, I can't keep being like this. The company has my mom's hard work in it too. I can't just watch her legacy slip away."

Hearing this, I quickly asked, "You mean...?"

"I'm going back to the company. I can't let it fall into Kenneth and Edna's hands."

"I'm so glad you're thinking this way."

I was overjoyed. Whatever misunderstandings existed between Quincy and Alan, having Quincy decide to return to the company was a good thing.

Quincy nodded with determination, "Originally, I planned never to go back to that house or the company. I didn't want to see those people. But Dad said his health is failing, and if something happens to him and I don't go back, he'll have no choice but to give the company to Kenneth."

"Anyone but Kenneth and Edna!"

Quincy clenched her fists, "So I've decided to take the company back."

Hearing this, I felt relieved.

I pumped my fist too, "Yes, Quincy, I'll cheer you on!"

Quincy smiled at me, "Just cheering me on won't be enough. If I run into things I don't understand at the company, I'll need your help."

I nodded, "No problem. And if I don't know something, I can ask my dad for guidance."

As soon as I finished speaking, Quincy grinned and said, "Actually, we won't need Mr. Lockwood. If things get really tough, there's always Mr. Lancaster, right?"
