Chapter 248: I Am a Moral Person
"Emily is still Daniel's girlfriend now. She should come to see Mr. Smith. Didn't you just complain about her not being here? Maybe Daniel just read your mind and knew what you were thinking, so he brought her along."
Seeing the two of them walk in holding hands so naturally, Zoey was so jealous that her nails dug into her palms before she could suppress the jealousy and resentment in her heart.
Instead, she put on a righteous look and spoke up to persuade.
Veda couldn't help but snort coldly, "I don't really want her to come. It would be best if Daniel just dumped her. But Zoey, don't worry, Daniel will never actually marry Emily."
What good were her guarantees?
She couldn't control Daniel's decisions or change how things would develop.
Idiot, just a useless pretty face with no real power.
Zoey had heard so much of Veda's empty promises that she was sick of them.
Now immune to it, she couldn't take any of it seriously anymore.
She just said, "Since Daniel is back, it's rare to run into him. I should at least go downstairs to say hello."
With that, she hurried downstairs.
"Zoey, wait for me."
Veda knew that Daniel was the one in charge. Since she was home, she naturally needed to greet Daniel.
The only reason she hesitated was because Emily didn't deserve it.
But now that Zoey had gone down, there was no need to hesitate anymore, so she followed downstairs.
Downstairs.
Daniel and Emily had just reached the hall when Zach hurried over.
"Mr. Daniel Smith, Ms. Johnson, Mr. Smith is still resting in his room. Please sit and rest for a bit. I'll go notify Mr. Mason Smith."
But Daniel said, "No need. Since Grandpa is still lying down, his health probably isn't very good. Emily and I will go see him together."
Zach hesitated a bit, thinking about how to remind Daniel that Zoey was here today.
But Zoey had already appeared in front of them.
"Daniel, I knew that with Mr. Smith being sick, you would definitely come back. I came to see Mr. Smith today because I have good news to share with him."
Zoey said with a gentle smile.
She also took the opportunity to show how much she cared about Mason.
If one didn't know that the poison in Mason was given by her, they might really be fooled by that face.
They might think she was such a kind and wonderful girl, truly caring about Mason!
Unfortunately, Daniel had seen through her dark interior.
So his attitude was very cold, "Since you've already seen Grandpa, why are you still staying at the Smith family? Don't you have a home?"
When it came to sharp tongues, even Emily had to admire Daniel.
To say such cold words to a girl who adored him - Zoey's heart must be completely broken.
Zoey's smile almost couldn't hold, but she still had to maintain her elegance, especially in front of Emily, "I came to tell Mr. Smith good news about his health. I found the best international doctor who can cure Mr. Smith. I just finished talking to Mr. Smith, and then you came back, Daniel. So you see, we're meant to be. I was actually planning to leave."
As Zoey spoke, she looked at Daniel with affectionate eyes.
Then Emily blocked her view.
Emily brazenly stood in front of Daniel, as if jealous, and said, "Ms. King, I'm Daniel's girlfriend. Looking at him so affectionately in front of me isn't really appropriate!"
"Stop showing off. Daniel is just interested in you for now. Zoey is the one who will marry Daniel in the future. What's there to be proud of!"
"Veda!"
Daniel shot her a cold look, his eyes warning.
Veda opened her mouth but didn't dare say anything more.
Zoey's jealousy and hatred were already hidden deep in her eyes as she regained her composure, "Daniel, don't blame Veda. She's just feeling sorry for me. Ms. Johnson's words reminded me that even though we're childhood friends, now that you have a girlfriend, I really shouldn't behave this way. I'll try to restrain myself in the future. Of course..."
She changed her tone, looking intently at Emily, "I'll have a sense of boundaries because I know shame. So Ms. Johnson, if you encounter the same problem one day, I hope you can be like me now, have a sense of boundaries, and not cling to someone who doesn't belong to you."
Her words had hidden meaning.
Because she was certain that Mason would eventually agree to her request to get engaged to Daniel. So when she became Daniel's fiancée, would Emily be able to stop pestering Daniel?
Emily acted as if she didn't understand Zoey's subtext, smiling innocently and confidently, "Of course, I have morals."
This was mocking Zoey for having no morals.
Zoey heard it. No matter how much she hated it in her heart, she didn't show it.
Let Emily be smug for a little while longer.
Daniel directly ordered them to leave, "Zach, show them out!"
Only then did a flash of hurt appear in Zoey's eyes because of Daniel's simple sentence.
Zach had already made an inviting gesture, "Ms. King, please!"
Zoey had no choice but to leave.
Veda felt that all of this was because of Emily. Even though it was Daniel who gave the order, she still blamed Emily.
So she secretly glared at Emily.
"Why don't you glare at Daniel? Wasn't he the one who made the decision? Or are you just a bully who picks on the weak, thinking I'm easy to push around!"
Emily wasn't having it and called her out directly.
Veda's glaring expression froze on her face. Her pupils shrank, her eyes bulging wide, full of disbelief.
"How dare you talk to me like that?"
Veda blurted out.
Emily smiled easily, "Why wouldn't I dare? I don't owe you anything, so I don't need to take your attitude. I haven't married into the Smith family yet, so don't say I'm taking advantage. After all, I'm young and beautiful - if anyone's taking advantage, it's Daniel taking advantage of me, right?
Even if I do marry into the Smith family later, I'd be your elder. Would you dare glare at an elder like this?"
Emily was speaking the truth.
She didn't feel guilty at all - she really thought this way.
Daniel even cooperated with a doting smile, "Yes, I'm the one taking advantage."
Seeing Daniel backing Emily up, Veda didn't dare question or speak up anymore.
She could only change the subject, "Daniel, I don't care what's between you and Emily, but you can't bring her to see Grandpa and upset him!"
Emily laughed lightly, "I think the one who upsets people would only be you, Veda."
Veda had brought Zoey in and tried to set her up with Daniel. As a result, Mason was poisoned by Zoey - it was like inviting a wolf into the house, yet Veda had no awareness of it at all.
Mason was probably fuming inside right now!
Veda didn't agree with Emily's words and wanted to argue back.
But Emily was too lazy to keep arguing with Veda. She walked toward Mason's room while saying, "Let's go see Grandpa first!"
Daniel immediately followed, showing no sign of discomfort at being told what to do.
Veda finally realized something - Daniel seemed to be way too indulgent with Emily.
Could it be that Daniel's feelings for Emily were actually true love?!
Then what about her, someone who had offended Emily? If Emily married in later, what would she do?
No, she absolutely couldn't let Emily successfully marry into the Smith family.
