Chapter 249: Does She Have Any Exceptional Skills
"You're here!"
As soon as Emily stepped into the room, Mason sat up and looked at her at the door.
"Yes!"
She walked straight toward Mason.
Veda followed in as well.
Seeing her come in, Emily paused in the middle of checking Mason's pulse.
But she had already sat down by the bed.
What's more, Mason didn't show any disgust or drive her away. Instead, he chatted casually with Emily like they were making small talk.
Mason even showed concern for Emily's family and such.
Veda found it all rather surreal.
Didn't Mason dislike Emily? Why did his attitude change so quickly? Had something happened that she didn't know about?
"Grandpa, didn't you say Emily and Daniel weren't a good match? Why are you treating her like this? Even if you're kind-hearted, what if she gets the wrong idea and actually thinks she can marry Daniel?"
Veda was really worried that even Grandpa had been won over by Emily.
She even looked Emily up and down suspiciously.
She's just... a bit prettier.
Has a better figure.
Her personality isn't good, her family background isn't good either.
How did she manage to make Daniel like her!
It doesn't make sense!
Could she really have some special quality?
Veda couldn't figure it out for a moment.
Emily noticed Veda's gaze, looked up, and stared at Veda provocatively. "What? Jealous? I can make both Daniel and Grandpa see me in a new light. Your envy won't help - you just don't have what it takes!"
Veda was speechless.
Fine, still the same annoying Emily.
No matter what special qualities she had, Veda still didn't like her.
Veda looked away and snorted coldly.
Mason spoke up, "Veda, it seems we've spoiled you too much. You only judge people by their appearance. Emily, Daniel, and I have things to discuss. Since you don't want to stay here, go out. Zach, show her out!"
Hearing this, Zach knew there were matters to discuss in detail that weren't suitable for Veda to hear.
He led the reluctant Veda out the door and closed it behind them.
Emily immediately checked Mason's pulse.
"How is it?"
After a moment, seeing that Emily had finished checking the pulse, Daniel asked.
Emily nodded. "There's some internal damage, but it can be treated. It just depends on whether you want to start treatment now or later. With the antidote pill I gave you, there won't be much residual poison."
Mason frowned though. "Then there's no rush. I won't die yet! Zoey came today saying she found a skilled doctor who should be coming to see me soon. Even if it's just for show, they should still know some medicine, so we can't let them find out!"
Daniel had a different opinion. "If that's the case, then there's no need to use this method of playing along. The Smith family hasn't fallen so low that we need to use your body as bait!"
His eyes were sharp as a hawk's, his voice cold and firm.
"...Listen to me on this, otherwise I'll have suffered for nothing!"
Mason immediately argued back.
The atmosphere in the room became tense.
The two were at odds - if it were anyone else facing this situation, they'd probably be scared.
Emily seemed completely unaffected.
She could even interrupt, "Can you two let me finish talking? Is it possible I have a solution that works for everyone?"
Hearing Emily's words, both turned to look at her at the same time.
Although Mason was old, looking at him now, you could see traces of his younger self - he had been a handsome man.
But at this moment, with both of them looking at her simultaneously, she noticed their eyes looked very similar.
"What solution do you have that would keep me from suffering for nothing?"
Mason spoke while Emily was lost in thought.
Emily gathered her thoughts and told them directly, "As long as I give you two needle treatments, even if you take medicine, when they examine you, they won't be able to tell that your body is fine. You'll only show signs of weakness from poisoning."
Mason was still somewhat doubtful. "Your medical skills, are they really that good?"
Emily frowned.
She didn't like having her medical skills questioned.
Daniel had already spoken up, "Fine, we'll do it your way!"
He trusted her unconditionally!
Emily immediately felt warm inside.
"Don't worry about my medical skills. I can let your body continue to heal without them finding out."
Although Mason still had doubts in his heart, he trusted Daniel.
Since Daniel trusted her and wouldn't joke around with his own body, then he had nothing to worry about either.
Emily went to the table to write a prescription for Mason's treatment.
Mason then told Daniel about how Zoey had threatened him.
"Now there are only three days. Since you agreed to investigate who's behind Zoey, does that mean you've agreed to this engagement?"
Mason thought Daniel was accepting it by default.
Daniel sneered, "Agree? Of course I'll agree. But how to announce it - you don't need to interfere with that. I'll arrange it myself!"
"As long as you've thought it through. Don't worry that Emily will be upset with you because of this. Since she knows your plan, she should have a sense of the bigger picture and naturally won't be jealous. If she really has a chance to marry into the Smith family in the future, as your wife, she must have this kind of perspective to be worthy of that position!"
Mason still had the traditional thinking of the older generation.
For big families like theirs, to have been passed down so well for so many generations, besides their foundation, they had very high requirements for future leaders and their wives.
He didn't think he was wrong - everything was for the Smith family's sake.
Daniel's eyes were dark and hard to read. "With me protecting her, she only needs to be free and happy. I never require these things from her!"
Of course, the girl he had his eye on was no ordinary girl.
Her qualities were enough that he didn't need to worry about anything.
Daniel didn't say these words out loud.
He felt there was no need!
Mason really wanted to criticize Daniel - how foolish!
He never knew that Daniel, who had never had women around him, once he understood matters of the heart, would be someone who fell head over heels in love.
But before Mason could speak, Emily had already finished writing the prescription and came over.
"Brew this prescription three times a day. If you're worried about being discovered, you can have someone make it into pills. But to make the pills, you'll need to find someone who knows how to do this and is skilled at it."
Emily specifically reminded them.
Actually, she could do it herself, but she was very busy, and she still held a bit of resentment toward Mason, so she deliberately didn't offer to help.
This was her holding a grudge!
She had said before that she was the type to seek revenge for the smallest slight. Even if Daniel and the others found out, that would still be her answer.
