Chapter 183: Take Money to Do the Job, No Other Nonsense
"Wow, you really think you're something, huh? Messing up, refusing to fix it, and now you're cussing me out? Trying to bail because you're feeling guilty? Listen, until you own up to your lies and apologize to Floyd, you ain't going anywhere."
At Mason's command, the bodyguards started closing in.
"What the hell is going on here? Mason, have you lost it? What kind of beef do you have with Emily? I invited her here out of kindness, and you have the nerve to treat her like this?"
Floyd, visibly upset, quickly stepped in front of the bodyguards, confronting Mason.
If it weren't for Mason's health issues, Floyd might have chewed him out right then and there.
After giving Mason a piece of his mind, Floyd turned to Emily with an apologetic look. "Emily, I'm really sorry. I didn't know there was some kind of issue between you and Mason. I had no idea he could be so stubborn and treat you like this. He must be losing it because of his illness. Please, don't hold it against him."
Floyd's humility showed just how much Mason meant to him.
Emily paused and looked at Mason with an air of superiority that caught him off guard.
Realizing he was being swayed by Emily's presence, Mason's expression hardened.
"I don't want to treat you because you don't trust me. Ever heard the saying, 'If you believe, it works; if you don't, it doesn't'?
I'm confident in my medical skills. I can tell what's wrong with you right now. You threatened to tell Daniel I'm a fraud, but I bet you won't because you'd have to explain how you found out about my skills.
You're hiding your illness from Daniel, aren't you?"
"How do you know that?"
Mason was stunned by her certainty.
Emily wasn't guessing. She knew Mason wasn't sick; he was poisoned, just like Daniel.
If Mason told Daniel about his condition, Daniel would come to her directly, not have Floyd bring her.
The person who poisoned Mason likely used a lower dose, fearing that a stronger one would kill him too quickly due to his age and weaker body compared to Daniel's. They wanted Daniel, so they used a different poison on Mason.
"How I know isn't important. What matters is you're not sick; you're poisoned. If someone can poison you without you knowing, they can poison others too."
She didn't mention that Daniel was poisoned with the same toxin, respecting his privacy.
"Poisoned? Emily, what's going on?" Floyd asked, alarmed.
No wonder they couldn't figure out Mason's condition.
"Ridiculous! How can you be sure I'm poisoned?"
Mason still didn't believe her.
"Have you been feeling unusually sleepy, excessively thirsty, occasionally experiencing heart palpitations, and having a short temper?"
Emily listed his symptoms.
Mason was taken aback. How could she know? He had these symptoms, but Emily hadn't even checked his pulse. How could she be so accurate?
His eyes turned to Floyd.
Floyd quickly clarified, "I only met her at the door. I didn't mention your condition. The bodyguards can back me up. Some of these symptoms didn't even show up when I checked your pulse."
Mason was starting to waver.
Emily didn't hold Mason's behavior against him, partly because of his relationship with Floyd and Daniel, and partly because she knew the poison affected his mind and temper.
"Emily, can you cure Mason's poison?" Floyd asked, seizing the moment.
He knew Mason well and saw he was starting to believe Emily. He quickly asked her.
"I can cure it, but..."
"But what? I think you're just lucky. Even if you can identify the poison, if Floyd couldn't detect it, the person who used it must be skilled. How can you easily cure it?"
Mason had been taken to the hospital, which couldn't diagnose him, leading them to call Floyd.
The poisoner was indeed an expert.
Emily, despite her patience, was getting irritated by Mason's repeated provocations.
"If I were you, I wouldn't be foolish enough to offend a doctor. I can cure you, but the herb I need is hard to find. Fortunately for you, I'm looking for it for another treatment."
Emily's straightforward response made Floyd happy. He feared Mason might offend Emily at this crucial moment.
"Mason, trust me. If I couldn't detect the poison, and you've already tried other doctors, only Emily can help. Don't mess this up now. I don't want to be embarrassed along with you."
Mason, already somewhat convinced, swallowed his retort.
He changed his approach. "What do you want? If you're looking for my approval to be with Daniel, forget it!"
Emily chuckled. "If I wanted to be with Daniel, do you think you could stop me? I treat patients for money. Pay the medical fees, and we're good."
Mason eyed her suspiciously.
Was she serious?
Daniel was attractive, wealthy, powerful, and capable. Being with him could bring in much more money.
"I have my own abilities. I'll earn my money. You decide. Or do you want to see the results first?"
Emily faced Mason's scrutiny calmly.
"How do we see the results?" Mason asked, puzzled.
Emily had already prepared silver needles and, before Mason could react, quickly inserted them into the corresponding acupuncture points.
Her swift, precise movements exuded a calm and serious demeanor.
Floyd, seizing the rare opportunity to learn, watched her closely.
Soon, all the necessary points were treated, and Emily withdrew her hand.
"Wait five minutes."
Mason was already feeling a change in his body. His wrinkled face showed less resistance and hostility towards Emily.
Five minutes passed quickly.
Mason's complexion visibly improved.
Floyd, both surprised and impressed, praised her. "See? I told you Emily could do it. You're old enough to know better. There's always someone better out there. How do you feel?"
Mason, slightly embarrassed, didn't praise Emily but responded briefly.
Floyd couldn't help but roll his eyes at Mason.
Suddenly, Emily spoke up, "Five million dollars, guaranteed cure! One million dollars upfront!"
