Chapter 183 Chapter 184 If I Had Known, I Shouldn't Have Been Soft-hearted
"...Are you trying to rob me?"
Mason knew she was a skilled doctor, but he couldn't believe the price she quoted.
Emily didn't even look up as she packed her silver needles. "Fifty million dollars, and that’s only because Floyd and Daniel vouched for you. Plus, I'll get the medicinal herbs you need, which alone cost millions. If you think it's too much, go ahead and find someone else who can cure you."
She finished packing and turned to Floyd. "Alright, Floyd, I'm out. Once Mason decides, give him my account number. When the money's in, I'll prescribe the medicine."
Emily left without giving Mason another glance.
Mason watched her leave and couldn't help but comment, "Look at her, so arrogant for someone so young!"
"Mason, shut up! If you keep talking, I really won’t help you. She’s not arrogant; she’s just that good. People with skills can afford to be proud."
Floyd was also frustrated. He hadn't said much while Emily was there, but now he spoke freely.
"Mason, what's your problem? Since when did you become so harsh to someone younger? Emily is talented and beautiful; anyone would like her!"
Floyd couldn't help but ask.
Mason frowned. "You know Emily's background, right? The Johnson family wants to latch onto Daniel. Plus, she was engaged to James. If she marries Daniel, it would be embarrassing. Daniel has always been exceptional, managing the Smith family so well. I don’t want him to lose face over this."
"Are you worried about him losing face, or yourself?" Floyd shot back. "You said Daniel is exceptional, so why don’t you trust his judgment? I've known Emily for a long time. She may seem cold, but she's kind-hearted. If she didn’t help you today, no one else might be able to cure your poisoning. If something happens to you, she can still marry Daniel. Besides, Daniel runs the Smith family. You can’t change his decisions. It’s better to support him and maintain a good relationship."
Mason fell silent.
This time, he didn’t argue with Floyd, indicating he had taken Floyd’s advice to heart.
Emily was unaware of the conversation that followed. She left the room and was about to leave the hospital.
As she passed by a doctor's office with the door slightly ajar, Emily's sharp hearing picked up the conversation inside.
She didn’t intend to eavesdrop.
But those involved in shady business should close their doors properly.
"Patient in bed 3-306 had a secret abortion? Don’t let anyone else know about this. If it gets out, we’ll have to return the money, and the higher-ups won’t protect us."
"Don’t worry, I understand."
The conversation was between two doctors in uniform.
Emily didn’t enter the room.
But she remembered the bed number.
Emily told herself not to meddle.
But her kind heart couldn’t ignore it.
She decided to inform the patient, at least letting them know the truth. Otherwise, they might think it was their fault for losing the baby. If their family was unreasonable, they might blame the victim.
Emily knocked on the door.
Soon, it opened.
"What are you doing here, Emily? Did you come to laugh at Bianca’s accident, or have you decided to save Hayden?"
Eli looked down at Emily with a superior attitude.
Emily frowned. "Is Bianca the one in the hospital bed?"
"Who else?"
Aiden was also upset, seeing Bianca in this state. He turned to Emily with a harsh tone.
Bianca hadn't expected Emily to know she was hospitalized and find her so precisely.
A suspicion arose in her mind, making her react emotionally.
"Emily, did you know about my miscarriage and come here on purpose? Did you do this to me?"
Bianca's voice was sharp, and she became more certain as she spoke, her gaze venomous.
"Emily, how could you be so cruel?"
Cleo looked at Emily in disbelief, eyes full of sorrow.
Emily felt a pang of pain facing Cleo's disappointment.
She didn't love Cleo anymore.
So why did it still hurt? It must be the bond of blood.
She suppressed her sadness and smirked. "If I say I didn't do it, you wouldn't believe me anyway. I was going to tell you something important, but now it seems unnecessary."
With that, she turned to leave.
"Stop, you can't leave. Explain yourself!"
Bianca, fueled by anger, managed to get out of bed and block Emily's path.
Emily glanced at Bianca's hand, her expression cold. "Explain what? Don't think you're the center of everything. I'm not interested in your business. If anything, I'd prefer you had the baby and married James. You know I'm with Daniel. If you marry James, I'd be your elder. With Daniel being more outstanding than James, why would I want you to lose your baby? Use your brain!"
Emily pointed to her head, her smile mocking.
Bianca was momentarily speechless.
Her words made sense, but doubts lingered. "If you didn't do it, then who? I don't believe it was an accident. How did you find the hospital so quickly? I can't think of another reason."
Bianca stared at Emily, trying to find clues.
But Emily remained calm.
For some reason, Bianca began to believe Emily wasn't responsible.
"Instead of fixating on me, think about who you've offended recently or who you saw before coming home. Otherwise, you might miss the real enemy."
Emily finished and flicked Bianca's wrist.
Bianca felt a numbness, and Emily took the opportunity to push her hand aside and leave the room.
"Bianca, do you really believe Emily?"
Aiden found it hard to believe.
Before the accident, Bianca had met with Kade.
Kade's grandson wouldn't do such a thing.
"Although I don't want to believe Emily did this, who else could it be? I only have issues with Emily."
Despite her suspicions, Bianca blamed Emily.
She wouldn't let Emily off easily.
The Johnson family could only have one daughter in their eyes.
But Emily's words did shake her.
She began to think it might really be Kade.
She hadn't told Aiden and the others the truth, not wanting them to know she had threatened Kade.
"That Emily, why can't she let you and the Johnson family be happy?" Eli scoffed.
Cleo, worried, spoke up. "What if Emily refuses to save Hayden because of how we treated her? I don't know how he's doing..."
Cleo's concern for Hayden brought tears to her eyes.
At that moment, Bianca's new phone buzzed.
She checked it and found information about Knox.
And a contact number.
