Chapter 331 Chapter 331 Myrtle Stevens is gone.
Eileen Stevens watched as Myrtle Stevens tumbled down, landing several meters away. Her instinct was to rush over and check on her injuries.
But before she could move, Caelan Cooper and Mrs. Cooper heard the commotion and came back, asking, "What happened? What's going on?"
Seeing the scene before him, Caelan shouted in panic, "Myrtle!"
He ignored Mrs. Cooper and hurried to Myrtle's side, trying to help her up.
Myrtle's face twisted in pain as she cried out, "Caelan, help me... save our baby..."
Caelan shouted urgently, "What are you waiting for? Call an ambulance!"
Mrs. Cooper quickly dialed the hospital, but the place they had chosen was quite a distance from the city center, so they could only rush toward the urban area.
Caelan picked Myrtle up and ran toward the parking area, while Eileen helped Mrs. Cooper back, glancing down to see the spot where Myrtle had just lain, blood pooling and staining the dry grass nearby.
Mrs. Cooper's hands trembled as she asked, "How could this happen? She seemed fine just a moment ago... how did she fall?"
"Fall?" Caelan was taken aback, blurting out, "Do you really think she fell on her own?"
Mrs. Cooper was stunned. "Isn't that what happened? Wait, Eileen, you were right next to her. Didn’t you see why she fell?"
Eileen opened her mouth, unsure how to respond.
Should she say that Myrtle had deliberately let go and rolled down? Or that she had even reached out to save her, but Myrtle had pushed her away?
It was as if Myrtle had intended to fall.
Who would believe such a claim?
A woman who cherished the child in her womb like a treasure had finally gotten married and was pregnant, only to suddenly lose the baby on purpose?
Mrs. Cooper thought Eileen Stevens was just scared; after all, she was a young girl who had never been pregnant before. She said, “Let’s go to the hospital first. If everything is fine, that’s a relief. Otherwise... sigh, this child was long-awaited by Caelan!”
Caelan Cooper couldn’t wait for Eileen and Mrs. Cooper any longer. After picking up Myrtle Stevens, he immediately drove to the hospital.
Eileen helped Mrs. Cooper into her own car and followed closely behind.
The image of Myrtle falling replayed in her mind over and over again. She was certain that Myrtle had done it on purpose.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t caught herself or couldn’t stand; she had intentionally fallen.
But why?
Why would she want to cause a miscarriage? Was it to frame Eileen? Did she want the shares Eileen held?
Eileen recalled Myrtle and Davina Evans going to that clinic near the beach hotel to get medication, or perhaps… was it because the baby wasn’t a boy?
She couldn’t make sense of it, but there was no time to dwell on it.
Eileen forced herself to calm down and called Niles Hawke, succinctly stating, “Myrtle Stevens fell and might have a miscarriage. Can you help clear the traffic from Shiyun Park to Gaylen Hospital?”
Niles paused for a moment, clearly taken aback, but quickly replied, “Sure, I’ll have Zavier Harding take care of it.”
“Eileen, are you okay?” Niles asked.
Eileen hesitated before answering honestly, “I don’t know.”
This situation had come out of nowhere, and she truly had no idea how it would unfold.
As the call ended, Mrs. Cooper asked curiously, “Eileen, who were you on the phone with? Who are you getting to clear the traffic?”
Eileen Stevens replied vaguely, “A friend, trying to help Caelan Cooper get to the hospital faster.”
She continued, “Aunt, please call Caelan and let him know to take them to Gaylen Hospital. Lynx Black has arranged for an obstetrician to be waiting there; they will be seen immediately.”
“Got it! I’ll call him right away,” Mrs. Cooper nodded repeatedly.
Everyone in Seaside City knew that Gaylen Hospital was the top private hospital. Getting treated there was definitely more efficient than going to the First Hospital.
Eileen drove quickly and soon caught up with Caelan Cooper's car. The four of them arrived at the hospital entrance, where a nurse was already waiting.
Caelan Cooper carried the person out of the car. Myrtle Stevens was already unconscious. Eileen looked into the car and saw that the seats were soaked in blood, a horrifying sight.
So much blood—there was a good chance the baby wouldn’t survive. Mrs. Cooper fainted on the spot.
Eileen arranged for a nurse to take care of Mrs. Cooper and followed Caelan Cooper to the emergency room.
Caelan sat on the ground, his hands covered in blood, his eyes vacant as he murmured, “I should have stayed by her side... I should have been with her…”
Eileen turned to see Lynx Black peeking around the corner, waving her over. She walked toward him.
“What’s wrong?” Eileen asked.
Lynx Black said, “I need to give you a heads-up: Myrtle Stevens has lost the baby.”
Even though she had anticipated this, Eileen felt a shock at the confirmation. “There’s no way that’s possible?”
Lynx shook his head. “I don’t even need to go into the operating room; just by looking at her blood loss, I can tell the baby won’t make it. Just tell me, is this related to you in any way?”
Eileen Stevens frowned and shook her head. "No, even if I had a fierce rivalry with those two sisters, I would never harm an unborn child."
Lynx Black nodded in agreement. "I think so too. But Niles called and told me to warn you. This situation came out of nowhere; it feels suspicious."
Only then did Eileen ask, "What about him?"
"He was supposed to be inspecting project progress in the suburbs this afternoon, but he's on his way back now," Lynx replied.
Eileen nodded. "Got it."
She turned to walk back, but Lynx grabbed her arm. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to wait for the results. I was there when Myrtle Stevens fell. If I leave now, what if she blames me for everything?" Eileen replied.
Lynx pulled her urgently. "But Niles specifically said you can't leave my sight until he gets back!"
Feeling a bit helpless, Eileen suggested, "Then... why don't you come with me?"
Lynx frowned reluctantly. "I guess that's the only option."
They reached the emergency room door, where Caelan Cooper glanced up briefly but seemed too preoccupied to speak, his eyes fixed on the emergency lights.
Half an hour later, the emergency room door swung open, and a nurse rushed out, her gloved hands covered in blood.
Caelan hurried over, asking, "What happened? How's the baby?"
The nurse was startled by his sudden approach. Spotting Lynx standing outside, she called out, "Director."
Lynx nodded and asked, "What's going on inside?"
The nurse shook her head and said, "The patient suffered severe abdominal trauma. The baby didn't make it. To prevent excessive bleeding, I need to get blood from the bank."
"Go ahead," Lynx Black waved his hand dismissively.
Caelan Cooper's face instantly turned pale. He stumbled back a few steps and collapsed onto the floor, burying his head in his knees as his shoulders shook with silent sobs.
Eileen Stevens averted her gaze, unable to look at Caelan in his moment of despair and vulnerability.
Lynx Black spoke softly, "Once we have the results, come to my office to wait for Niles."
Just as Eileen was about to follow Lynx to the elevator, Caelan suddenly lunged at her, his face twisted with rage. "It's your fault! It's you!"
