Chapter 267
Chapter 267
When Nadia started hearing her own voice, she trembled as she realized the cold reality. Her brother really had a recording.
“Are you really my brother? How could you do this to me?” she asked angrily as she hurriedly walked to where the man was, but Marcello stood up and dragged her back.
“Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough?” he asked, making Nadia glare at him.
She wanted to shout at him, but when she saw her mother’s cold eyes, she trembled.
“Nadia, there is no need for you to approach me. I will be leaving with Marcello in a week or two weeks time. Your brother Clave is the one who will be managing the company. As for the shares you are after, you won’t be getting any. Go tell your beloved father and grandparents to give theirs to you. My shares belong to my sons, not you,” Citrine said, though inwardly she added ‘and my daughters’.
Nadia looked at her mother with a pale face.
“Mom, you can’t do this! I am your only daughter!” she shouted, and Citrine shook her head.
“As you said, I have nothing to offer you, so don’t waste your breath on me,” Citrine said coldly. She wished that she were even a tenth of Ivanna or Isley, but now, Nadia was too proud to even realise what was going on around her.
However, she realized it too late as there was no backing down.
“Okay, when I get married to the Bennet, please don’t come trying to curry favor with me,” Nadia said as she glared at Citrine and her brothers while she wiped her tears.
Her words made almost everyone chuckle.
“Young lady, your engagement to my son was because I am your mother’s friend, not something that was decided by your grandparents. I have seen how you treat your mother, and I don’t want an unfilial daughter like you being my daughter-in-law. What if you treat me the same way cause I have nothing to offer, mmh?” Mrs Bennet asked, startling Nadia.
Her eyes had been on her mother, brothers, and Floyd, thus she had not realized that her future mother-in-law was also present. She knew what kind of person the latter was. Also, the two were close friends; how could Mrs Bennet tolerate anyone who treats her friend like that?
“I…I didn’t mean it,” she said in a trembling tone, but the middle-aged woman just shook her head.
“Floyd, do you oppose if I were to cancel your engagement with her?” she asked her son, who was staring at Nadia with a frown. He thought that she really resembled the wicked family that had tried to scam Ivanna's money.
“No. I don’t even love her, thus why should I care about her?” he asked coldly, making Nadia’s face pale more as she knew that there was nothing she could do.
She had always known that Floyd didn’t love her, but cause of their parents, he never said anything about her or their engagement. Today, she had ruined herself. She didn’t have her mother's or her brother’s backing, and now, the engagement that she had always been pleased with and could give her a backbone was taken away. How could she continue surviving in the city?
“You heard my son. Your engagement with Floyd has been cancelled. As for the engagement token, your mother is one who has always kept it; she will return it,” Mrs Bennet said, feeling grateful that Floyd had insisted on that time that his aunt should stay with the token, cause if it had been given to Nadia, who knew whether she would have returned it willingly?
“We will announce it to the public after getting out. The reporters are outside,” Tyson said coldly as after hearing the recording, all the affection for Nadia that he had had was wiped away. He only regarded her as a stranger, but if she stepped over the line, he didn’t mind taking her as an enemy and making her pay for everything she had done.
“Mom, are you really going to ruin my happiness and life?” Nadia asked Citrine as she looked at her with tears in her eyes. She refused to believe that her mother, who used to love her so much and always longed to be close to her, would be so indifferent to her.
She couldn’t understand why, when she wanted to be close to her, she would refuse and even treat her that way.
“Ruining your life and happiness? Nadia, can you hear yourself? You are so selfish that you never cared about anyone. I have always seen how you treated your brothers are who are my friends, heard of how you treated Aunty, but because Aunty never spoke and still had expectations, I never said anything. If by cancelling the engagement, we are ruining your happiness, what about me, who doesn’t love you at all? Did you ever think that we would be happy after getting married? You are so naïve! If I had married you, it would only be to fulfil my mother’s and aunt’s wishes, out of duty and responsibility. You would never have been happy. Neither of us would have. Now that you have been set free, you should be happy to the point of even holding a party, do you understand?” Floyd said, stunning everyone as they had never realized that he was enduring everything in silence cause of their mothers.
“If it were me, I would have cancelled the engagement a long time ago. The day you threw Cody in the swimming pool. Please don’t be surprised, as you always thought that no one knew. We had been together in the garden, Cody had just left to go bring some iced fruits for us to eat while basking in the sun, so I witnessed everything. For Aunty, I never said anything, but from that day, I only felt disgust towards you,” Floyd said, making Nadia, who had been crying to even forget crying and stare at him in disbelief.
“You'd better be satisfied with what you still have, cause if you continue making things hard for my aunt or your brothers, you can’t blame me for going after your father’s company. After all, he loves you and intends to hand it over to you, be contented with that one,” Floyd added, though he had a smirk on his face knowing too well that she would never get a chance to enjoy anything he had mentioned.
“Nadia, please leave, don’t make mother hate you. She doesn’t; she just feels disappointed in you. If she hates you, you will lose everything, do you understand?” Marcello said softly as he looked at the young lady who had been their sister for eighteen years. How could he not have any affection towards her? However, he was very disappointed in her actions and wished that she could turn over a new leaf. That way, maybe, her identity as a fake heiress will never be revealed.
“What right do you have to tell me, you bastard!” Nadia shouted angrily.
Ivanna and the rest, who had just stepped into that room, were stunned when they heard her words, and when they looked around, they realized that she was addressing Marcello. The two sisters were so angry. Before anyone realized it, she had been slapped on both sides by Isley.
“You…” Nadia started talking, but when she saw that the person was wearing a mask, she swallowed back her words and tried to control her own anger.
She could fight anyone but not her. Though she didn’t know who she was, she couldn’t afford to anger either of the girls. One had the Barnes and the other the Alessandros.
“You are so naïve. How dare you call my own brother a bastard? Have you looked at yourself? Ever wondered why you don’t resemble anyone in your family?” Isley asked coldly, stunning everyone as they never expected her to resort to that.
They knew of her strength and could fight anyone, but when they attacked by mouth, they were all surprised.
“Sister, I think you shouldn’t stay with Ivy and the rest anymore,” Ivanna said softly, as she knew who had changed her sister. Hearing Ivanna’s words, they all realized what was happening.
Just as Marcello was about to speak, he saw a dagger in Nadia’s lips.
