Chapter 266
Chapter 266
“Hello, my name is Fiona Bakers,” Fiona said with a smile as she walked in front of Abby.
However, when she saw Abby’s face, she was stunned, remembering who she was. She found it unbelievable.
“What do you want? Haven’t you caused enough harm?” Abby asked coldly and noticed that Nadia was watching everything that was happening with a puzzled look.
She didn’t dare risk it, as if Fiona said something she shouldn’t when Nadia was present, won’t their secret be exposed? She knew that a lot of people were suspicious as they had never heard the Barnes having a daughter, and if Nadia knew something, with the hatred burning in her heart, won’t she go around telling people what she had found?
They weren’t ready to expose Ivanna’s identity. They wanted to wait till she completed her high school education and make the Bakers pay. If anything was exposed beforehand, won’t their plans be ruined? It was already a mistake for Fiona to be present and know Ivanna’s identity. She was so sure that after this, the Bakers won’t let Ivanna rest, they will keep chasing after her, trying to exploit that they had brought her back.
She knew that it was a good chance for them to strike, and till then, Fiona and Nadia shouldn’t speak when they were in the same room. Also, Nadia’s identity had to be exposed. She didn’t know what her friend was plotting; she had not gotten a chance to ask, but with Nadia already in front of her, she had a feeling that she would ruin things for herself. She felt it was a pity that she wasn’t obedient and a good girl. If she had not been greedy and manipulative, even against her brothers, Abby would have treated her so well.
“Take her away, I will deal with her later,” she said without looking at anyone, but both Dylan and Tyson stood up.
This made Fiona panic. She opened her mouth to say something, but when she saw that everyone was looking at her coldly as if they might pounce on her right away, she felt terrified and closed her mouth. She had just wanted to try her luck, get close to them, but their attitudes told her that they long knew who she was.
When she recalled how she had treated Ivanna when she was living with them and the bullies she had encountered in school, her back was immediately covered in sweat. She started convincing herself that she had not harmed Ivanna so much. Just mocking and just saying what she had gone through at her previous family, her mother was the one who did everything to Ivanna.
Humans’ hearts were wicked. When she faced danger, she did not hesitate to think of how to betray her mother, who loved and pampered her endlessly.
After being thrown into an empty room, she dragged her trembling body to a corner as she tried to calm herself so that she could think of the next situation.
“Aunt, do you know that young lady?” Nadia asked curiously as she smelt gossip.
“For the years you have been my niece, I will tell you. She hurt one of Ivanna’s people. That’s how I know her. I think that after finding out that they were connected to the wealthy family, she is terrified that the person she hurt will use her friendship with our family to harm her family business,” Abby said calmly, and Nadia nodded, as she didn’t see anything wrong with her words, as she had encountered such things countless times.
“Mom, I missed you,” she said as she walked to Mrs Martinez, who just stared at her coldly.
“You miss me? In the past, you would stay for even a year without coming to see me, and we lived in the same compound. Don’t you find anything wrong with your words?” Citrine asked coldly, making the young lady embarrassed.
At the moment, she forgot the reason she had approached them and glared at her mother for her behavior, making Citrine chuckle as she shook her head, thinking that the young lady would never change. Even when she was trying to curry favor, she still behaved as if everything was in her hands. She didn’t know what to feel when she stared at her.
“Why are you glaring at mom when you are the one who needs her favor, mmh?” Cody asked angrily as he didn’t like the way the latter was behaving.
Hearing his words, Nadia panicked when she remembered why she was there in the first place. She looked at everyone around and saw them watching her with indifferent gazes, apart from her brothers, Cody and Phil. She panicked and, at the same time, wondered whether she really didn’t matter to those people.
They were her brothers, cousins, fiancée, aunts, and her mother, but the way they looked at her was as if they were looking at a stranger who had approached them wanting something from them. She had always looked at those who approached her with the same gaze; thus, she could understand it well. She felt like crying, but was afraid that if she did, she would just be angering them.
“I am talking the truth. It was Grandma who never allowed me to come and visit you,” she said as her voice trembled.
“You are lying. How many times has Grandma asked you to call Mom for the family meeting? She said that even though mom wasn’t favored and they didn’t like her, it can’t change the fact that she was the family’s daughter-in-law. How would you answer, mmmh? Tell me?” Cody asked angrily as his eyes became red as he recalling everything that had happened at the Martinez mansion.
Nadia flinched when she heard that and glanced at her mother, trembling before lowering her head out of anger and shame. She was angry at her brother for not giving her face in front of the people present. She wondered what the Barnes, the Ross, Floyd, and his mother would think of her.
“You said that she couldn’t give any good suggestions, and it would be a waste of time. Dad told you countless times that you shouldn’t forget that she was the one who gave birth to you. She loved you, and you should have been accompanying her when you had time, so that she won’t feel so lonely when my brothers and I were absent. What did you answer?” Phil asked when he saw that his brother had stepped in to question her.
He had always wanted to know why Nadia treated their mother like that. Though she wasn’t her biological mother, the latter didn’t know. She had grown up in love, being showered with everything she wanted by their mother. They had seen how their mother would look at Nadia with longing. She had wanted to get close to Nadia so that she could feel as if her daughter was there, but no. The lady just showed her disdain.
“You had asked Dad, ‘Why do you keep telling me to visit that old hag? She has nothing to offer me! I am very sure that if it weren’t for the stylists who brought outfits every month, she would never know the latest fashion. She would be just like the ordinary countryside wife. Dad, don’t ever tell me to visit her. I don’t want to, it's disgusting,” Phil said, stunning everyone.
Abby never thought that her best friend was going through too much in her family. The Martinez brothers never knew that that was how Nadia saw their mother. Floyd frowned, feeling displeased as he never thought she was such a person. Before meeting Ivanna, he never saw anything wrong with her; it was just that he wasn’t interested in romance or women.
The Ross members present shook their heads, and the Barnes brothers just stared at Nadia coldly, thinking that she knew how to act. She portrayed an innocent and kind face in front of them, but still uttered such disgusting and evil words about their aunt.
“That’s not true,” Nadia said as tears flowed down her cheeks when she saw how they were looking at her after hearing Phil’s words.
“Mom, don’t believe him. He is lying cause I am the family’s only daughter and you love me the most,” Nadia said as she looked at Citrine while crying, wanting her mother to think that she had suffered the most injustice and reprimand her brother.
Hearing her words, Phil laughed and said, “Not true? Did you think that no one knew? I had just returned from outside that day when I overheard your conversation with Dad. I had even recorded it as I wanted to show it to our brother to prove to them that you loved mom, and it was our grandparents' fault for you not visiting them.”
Nadia's face paled upon hearing that. She glared at Phil, accusing him of not seeing her as his sister cause how could a brother who loved his sister dearly shame her so much? Why couldn't he just accept the blame after pushing everything onto him?
"You are lying. You are just slandering me! You don't have any recording," she shouted.
