Chapter 74

Chapter 74

Heath began to reminisce about the past, sighing softly."Orion had an illness when he was young, and it left him with a slight limp. At that time, the old shareholders of the company were old-fashioned and felt that having someone with a physical disability in a senior position would damage the company's image. They firmly disagreed, and I couldn't do anything about it."

He shook his head. "So Orion could only be a butler by my side. It was indeed a waste of his talent."

Limp?

Orion was capable, but because of a physical defect, he couldn't join the company. Day after day, he watched the family business within reach but untouchable, and he had to serve others.

Over time, his ambition grew.

Orion had a complete motive to collude with Amara to scheme for the Whitaker family's business.

But Heath was obviously very good to him.

As a side branch of the Whitaker family, Orion had no natural reason to have to join the Whitaker Group.

On what grounds did he plot to seize Heath's company? What had Heath done wrong?

I felt indignant and asked about some of Orion's past trivial matters in a roundabout way.

Heath was immersed in memories and said a lot.

It wasn't until I asked more and more questions that he looked at me with a questioning gaze.

I quickly made an excuse not to disturb his rest and left the study.

As soon as I returned to my room, my phone rang.

It was Soren.

"Ms. Whitaker, I've found the driver from the car accident. His background is clean, just an ordinary freight driver. He has no previous bad records, but,"Soren's tone became a little solemn, "he insists that it was his own fatigue driving, that he's fully responsible, and that he's willing to compensate. His attitude is so good that it's actually not right! It's as if he was prepared to take the blame all along!"

There was indeed a problem!

"You continue to follow up, but don't push too hard, so as not to alert him."I calmly instructed, "Contact Mr. Capulet's assistant with what you know. They are also investigating this matter."

On the other end of the line, Soren was silent for two seconds, then came a teasing tone with a hint of gossip."Ms. Whitaker, are you so close with Mr. Capulet's side now? You're directly asking me to contact his assistant? It seems things are progressing rapidly."

My face flushed, and I snorted in annoyance."What nonsense are you talking about? Get back to work!"

With that, I quickly hung up the phone, my heart pounding as I held the hot phone.

Lately, I had indeed become more and more dependent on Octavius.

The next morning.

I was about to go downstairs for a glass of water when I reached the corner of the stairs and heard Heath and Amara talking in the living room.

They seemed to be talking about Orion again.

I subconsciously lightened my steps and hid in the shadows.

Amara's tone was almost adoring. "Heath, you know, although I haven't seen Orion many times, every time I hear you mention him, I feel it's such a pity!"

"Such a smart and capable person, just because of his leg, he was buried. If he could have joined the company to help you, you wouldn't have to worry so much now! Maybe the Whitaker Group would be even better than it is now!"

She chattered on, praising Orion's abilities, her tone enthusiastic.

I stood in the shadows, looking at Amara's expression of hidden admiration, and suddenly had a flash of insight.

Amara's feelings for Orion were definitely not ordinary!

Could they have teamed up because Amara liked Orion and was willing to help him?

I suppressed the shock in my heart, returned to my room, and immediately contacted a reputable detective agency, paying the deposit.

I wanted them to fully investigate all of Orion's hidden assets, especially overseas accounts and the flow of funds after his death.

Since Octavius had given me a direction, I had to find evidence as soon as possible.

After doing all this, I went to the company and was busy for a whole morning.

Just as the lunch break arrived, Octavius's call came.

"Downstairs, underground garage."

My heart stirred. I immediately put down my work and took the elevator straight to the underground garage.

His Rolls-Royce was parked in the parking space.

I pulled open the car door and got in, only to find that besides the driver and the bodyguard in the passenger seat, there was a trembling man sitting in the back.

Octavius leaned lazily against the leather seat. "This is the van driver."

I looked at the man in surprise.

"Such a serious car accident, and you're not even hurt?"

The other bodyguard next to the van driver spoke up. "Mr. Capulet and Ms. Whitaker's time is precious. Say what you know one more time."

The van driver trembled with fear, almost crying.

He stammered, "I'll talk! I'll talk! Someone instructed me to do it! My wife is sick and needs a lot of money for surgery. I had no choice."

"That person contacted me, gave me a lot of money, and told me to drive to the Whitaker Group building at that time yesterday. When this Ms. Whitaker came out, I was to pretend to lose control and crash into her!"

The van driver secretly glanced at me, then quickly lowered his head."But he repeatedly emphasized that I absolutely couldn't really hit her! I had to brake just before I hit her, just to create a thrilling scene."

"Afterward, he gave me another sum of money and told me to insist that it was my own fatigue driving and that I was willing to take all responsibility and compensation. I really didn't want to hurt anyone. I was just short of money."

I listened quietly, my fists clenched.

It was just as I thought.

"Who was the person who instructed you?" the bodyguard asked sharply.

"I don't know! I really don't know!"The van driver shook his head desperately. "He always contacted me through public phones or internet calls. His voice was also processed. I've never met him! The money was also left at a designated place for me to pick up."

I looked at him coldly, not surprised.

From the moment Mitchell appeared, I had suspected that this was a self-inflicted injury trick.

Now, it was just a confirmation of my suspicions.

'Mitchell, you want to play, right?'

A smirk played on my lips.

'Then I'll play with you.'

Octavius turned his head, a playful look in his eyes, and looked at me. "What crooked idea have you come up with now?"

I nodded. "I have to make Mitchell pay the price."

Octavius paused, his tone carrying a hint of subtle probing. "It seems you really don't like Mitchell now? You haven't softened at all."

I turned my head and met Octavius's probing gaze, suddenly feeling the urge to tease him.

I deliberately pouted my lips, blinked my eyes, and asked coquettishly, "I was so proactive in kissing you yesterday. Isn't that proof enough?"

As my words fell, several people looked over in surprise.

A fleeting look of surprise flashed across Octavius's usually calm and handsome face, and then a faint, imperceptible blush appeared at the base of his ears.

Was he shy?

I almost couldn't help but laugh. Before Octavius could react, I pushed open the car door and threw out a sentence."I'm going to settle the score with Mitchell first!"

After returning, the smile on my face gradually faded, replaced by a cold look.

I asked Soren to buy a thermal lunch box and packed a few light dishes to take to Mitchell's hospital room.

Mitchell was leaning against the bed, his face still a little pale.

When he saw me and the lunch box in my hand, his eyes lit up with surprise, and he struggled to sit up from the bed."Seraphine? Why are you here? And you brought food?"
