Chapter 71 A better family!
Chapter 71 A better family!
Rosia's POV
The walk back to the palace feels like a trek through a graveyard. I'm out of all options and I'm actually thinking of selling all the expensive jewelry that my mates gifted me and running far away. Problem is that all my belongings are in the king's chambers, in the royal wing. Somewhere I'm likely to run into Cassandra more than anywhere. I still make my way towards there nevertheless.
But the sight waiting for me makes me wish I had thought twice. The doors to the chambers are open and a line of servants scurry in and out, replacing the white carpets, curtains and beddings with red ones, Cassandra's favorite color. In the center of it all she stands in a legal posture directing the servants like a general conquering a new territory.
She spots me immediately and a devious smile takes all over her face.
"Oh, look who has finally come out hiding," She announces, her voice carrying across the whole foyer. "Girls, let me introduce you to my husbands' mistress. Apparently, no told the poor thing that the king's concubines do not sleep in the royal wing."
The servants, eager to please their new Queen, let out a chorus laughter.
I do not turn and run in shame like my former self would do. Instead I take a step forward, my chin lifted. Which surprises even Cassandra. I'm sure she expected me to cower and beg her.
"It seems you told your servants everything except how you conspired with an evil oracle and a traitorous assistant to trap the kings into a marriage, because you knew they’d never choose you willingly." I scoff just as loudly.
The laughter dies instantly.
I take another step, "You mock me for being a mistress? At least I am wanted by the kings. You are so unloved that the only way you could get them to stand at an altar with you was to cast a spell to fool them."
Cassandra’s face has gone white with anger. Embarrassment radiating off her.
"You really can't accept your mates have chosen to love another woman, can you?" she hisses, stepping toward me until we are inches apart. "Remember when you first arrived here, dear sister. Remember when you were my favorite slave. They wanted nothing to do with you. They looked at you with utter disgust and rejected you on the spot. If it weren't for the crown they desperately...
"Just stop it." I snicker. "They don't love you, alright. They said it themselves. I mean god when are you going to get it through your stupid mind that they'll never willingly love you. Otherwise
She seem to be fighting the urge to physically attack me. Her wolf claws lengthens menacingly. Clearly she cannot control herself.
"Calm down, dear. You do not want everyone to see a queen lose her grace over the words of this rejected, ugly thing," one of her servant persuades.
"It only takes a little time and a little 'love' to change a man’s heart," Cassandra still spits at me. "They loved me before and they will grow to love me again. Once I receive my Queen's crown tomorrow, I will put you and your stupid kind back where you belong."
Next Morning
Rosia's POV
I get off the bed and notice the presence of two male servants in my guest Chambers. One is cleaning the floor, the other carrying in a bunch of clean sheets to replace those on the bed.
Luckily the towel I slept in since I didn't have anything to change into is still wrapped loosely around my body, none has seen anything they shouldn't.
I have woken up with a dangerous thought. To get the hell out of here while I still can. I don't want to stay here and fight with Cassandra over some throne. If I will live this cruel life, I would like to live it with at least a little peace.
After Cassandra's today's crowning ceremony, I shall find ways to leave and go to some other place to go with the help of Lora. Other servants told me she quite her job here the time she thought the kings had betrayed me. All I have to do find her place of resident and pay her with a little gold that I'm going to ask from my mates. I will obviously not tell them that I plan to leave their palace.
"My lady, good morning. The kings have said that we let you know that your mother and sibling have arrived here early. You will find them in the guest chambers down the hallway on the right, fourth door," one of the servants Informs and I freeze.
What!
So my my mates were not lying? My mother is indeed alive and I have a sibling? And they are here? It's unbelievable.
I will not risk another heartbreak by believing what I haven't seen yet.
I get the robe I had on yesterday and dress hastily.
"My lady, your breakfast will get cold if you do not eat fast," one servant points as I make my way out.
"I will be right back," I say and step out.
I make my way to the mentioned guest room with fast strides. The door opens before I get there and one of my mate's steps out. I bet they'll be expecting an apology, because I refused to believe that they weren't lying about my mother being alive last night.
I wanted to believe that Lucas wasn't the devil who had me sent back to the slave dungeons and almost died just so he could have the crown. The truth is however undeniable now. He was never the kind, loving man he pretended to be.
"The servants say that my mother is here. I imagine I owe you an apology," I say to my mate after closing the space between us.
"Yes, and a very beautiful and warm-hearted sister." He informs with a smile.
My sibling is a sister? A nervous smile breaks across my face.
I step forward and hug my mate. "Thank you for buying my family. I imagine I owe you an apology.
"You do. But I do not forgive. So we shall later discuss your punishment," she replies with a devious smirk.
I would feel scared if she weren't smiling.
He surprisingly removes the crown from his head and places it on mine. "Heal your mother's scars. She is back to being a royal." He says.
"You could have healed her yourself. Why are you giving me the crown?" I question.
"You will bring it back. There is no harm in it connecting with it's true heir now and then," he answers. "Besides, your mother needs to feel pride in having a human daughter, not just loss," he adds.
