Chapter 70 Long Live the Psycho Queen
Chapter 70 Long Live the Psycho Queen
Rosia's POV
"Welcome back, honey," King Aerion pecks my forehead. "I wonder if you’re feeling well enough to listen to a thousand apologies?"
"You have nothing to apologize for," I say, sitting up. It's strange that I do not feel sick anymore. "Thank you for saving me. I feel... incredibly normal again. Healthy as a newborn. What did you do?"
Their warm relieved smiles disappear from their faces, getting replaced by looks of dread.
"Love, there is something we need to tell you. Something we didn't mention yesterday. Something...that is going to be very hard for you to hear.” King Aeries says his tone insinuating that they are about to tell me something very bad.
I swallow hard, my stomach churning. “Okay.” I'm sure it's nothing we can't solve together.
They make me even more apprehensive when when they reach over and take my hands in theirs. “We made a very awful mistake. We unknowingly married and made your step sister our queen with vows of a blood pact."
Are they joking? I can't help it. A burst of laughter escapes my lips. “That has to be the most pathetic joke I've ever heard. You're pranking me, right?"
"We really wish it were a joke." Aerius says and I stare at each of them dumbfounded. Why do those words they have said sound familiar? Queen, vows. It's because I heard them earlier and I thought I was dreaming.
“Rosia?”
"Cassandra...she’s the Queen now?" I whisper, my voice trembling. "I wasn't dreaming earlier. You talked about vows. About a curse. Tell me what the hell is going on. All of it."
"When we were under the oracle's spell, as you already know we weren't in our right minds, your sister took advantage and asked that we marry her. She however realized that we'd divorce her once the spell was broken so she made us enter into a Blood Pact with her."
The air leaves my lungs.
"A blood pact? That's... that's unbreakable. That’s for life. What did you vow?"
"To love and cherish her above all others," Aerius says. He can't even look at me. "Until her death."
None of us speak for awhile. The only sound coming from my labored breathing. They are still holding my hand.
"So, what I'm I now?" My voice sounds so numb.
"What are you?” Their eyebrows rise. “What are you talking about?”
“Well, you can't have two queens?” I choke on the words. “So what am I? Your concubine?”
"You're our mate!" they insist, their grip tightening. "You will always be the one we choose."
I stare at them, my vision blurring with tears.
"So when you went in the dungeon... did you let her out..."
They hesitate. That is my answer.
"We had to," Aeries says desperately. "To earn her forgiveness. Otherwise you'd have died because we broke the vow by loving you,"
I don't understand.
"So you made the mistake of entering into a blood pact with my evil sister, but I'm the one who suffers for it when you break the vows?" I let out a hysterical laugh of pure horror. "
“Its because you are our mate and human. We eventually would have suffered the curse too,” Aeries explains.
"So that’s it? She lives here now? She’s your wife? And every time you touch me, I will suffer to death for it?" I forcefully pull my hands back from their grip.
"We will find a way out," Aerion promises, reaching for my hand again, but I pull away.
"How?" I scream, the tears finally falling from my eyes. "She got everything now! You gave her the queens crown, the palace, and the power to kill me if she wishes to!"
The silence that follows is deafening. They they have nothing to say. Because they know I'm right. She can kill me if she wants to and they wouldn't dare lay a finger on her.
"Get out," I whisper, pulling the sheets up to my chin.
"Rosia, please—"
"GET THE HELL OUT!" I roar, my voice breaking. "Go play 'husband' to your fucking Queen. Go apologize to her again. Just leave me the fuck alone!"
They back away, their faces filled with regret but I don't care.
"We didn't mean for any of this to happen and we promise we'll solve it. Just give us a few days." One says.
"Just.Go. Away. Please."
They don't say more as they step out of the doctors tiny chambers. I lay back into the pillows and sob. My life seems to be getting worse than better each day.
It's been only an hour since my mates left and I have cried until my cheeks have turned itchy. I know I can't stay here, but where will I go? I decide to lay on the bed for a while and think about any other option I may have other than staying here. But I have no one that I know that can host me.
Except... Lucas.
What if he also knows how to end the blood pact. I mean he knew the Oracle so he must have known the spells or a way to break them. Yesterday a servant had mentioned that the Crown's curse had turned him into a monster. I hope it still will be the same Lucas in there.
I force my leaden limbs out of the bed and wear my robe and head for the dungeons.
The guard on duty is luckily the same man whose life had been spared by the kings because of saving me.
"Lady Rosia?" he bows. "You shouldn't be here. The Kings..."
"I need to see the Angel king's former assistant," I request.
The guard shakes his head sadly. "My Lady, there is no Lucas anymore. Whatever the Crown did... it took his mind. He is a beast now. You can't reason with a thing that isn't a man."
"I have to see it for myself," I insist. "Lead me to him."
He nods and motions for me to follow. He takes a torch from the wall and leads me down, in deeper underground cells.
"Here we are." The guard says stoping outside a iron door. The cell is massive, but the torchlight only reaches a few feet into the space. From the furthest, darkest corner, I see a figure with a hunched shape.
"Lucas?" I call out.
The figure shifts a little into the light and my heart leaps with hope, it still has the frame of a man. But as it steps closer, the hope dies. It has the shape of a man but the most horrifying part is its face. Where a mouth should have been, the skin is fused shut.
I gasp in horror as the beast stares at me with wild eyes that are devoided of any humane emotion.
"I told you, my Lady," the guard says. "He cannot speak."
"Yes, It's no use," I choke out, backing away from the bars.
Seems like I am completely, utterly on my own now.
