Chapter 127
Cateline Fire and the Alpha
Cristina walked down the hallway with Cateline. The human sensed the presence of the guard behind her again but tried to ignore it. She found it strange but didn't want to take it too seriously, thinking that nothing bad would happen to her.
Upon entering the hall, she noticed that no one was there except for Diego, already seated at the table waiting for her. A faint light from the setting sun entered through the huge window, mixing with the candlelight on the table and in the surrounding candlesticks.
"Please, have a seat."
Diego said firmly, looking at the human.
She returned his gaze, still not understanding why he had summoned her. She noticed the beautiful table in front of her, laden with meats and fruits, bread, and soups; everything looked delicious.
Cateline sat down slowly, still puzzled. She glanced sideways and noticed the same guard standing near her, by the entrance of the room, which was almost irritating her. What was he doing? Following her? Cateline wanted to confront him, but she restrained herself for a while. She heard the Alpha say...
"I'd like you to join me for dinner... I've been told you haven't been eating properly."
The Alpha spoke, looking coldly at his daughter-in-law. Even though he tried to show concern, he still couldn't shake off his icy temperament and expression.
Cateline felt from the words of the man in front of her that he was referring to her as irresponsible, at least that's what she understood from his rude tone.
Cateline chose not to respond, just starting to eat to avoid any argument.
Diego noticed the girl's disappointment; he wanted to say something to reassure her, but he couldn't express his feelings in words. He could feel her rapid heartbeat, her stressed face, and her avoidance of eye contact; the Alpha sighed and continued eating.
He glanced at the guard and Cateline's servant who were there, the only ones in the room besides him and his daughter-in-law.
The man was undecided whether to discuss the information he had received from his son. After seeing how downcast and sad the human was, he decided to share.
The Alpha took a few bites of steak, then wiped his mouth with a napkin before speaking.
"I received news from Felix today..."
Diego let the words hang in the air, and as soon as Cateline heard the name of her beloved, her eyes sparkled toward her father-in-law, who noticed the attention the girl was giving him now.
"Is he okay?"
Cateline asked, concerned, almost getting up from the table.
Diego gave a wry smile at the girl's reaction.
"Yes...yes... he should be returning soon."
Upon hearing this, a great relief washed over Cate; she knew Felix had succeeded, and everyone was safe.
The woman finally smiled; Diego knew he had done the right thing.
"Now eat... you wouldn't want to receive him with an illness, would you?"
Diego spoke, returning to his meal, looking at his plate, avoiding eye contact with the human.
Cateline leaned over the plate and ate a bit of everything; it had been a while since she had eaten so well.
Diego felt joyful; he couldn't remember the last time he had sat down with someone to eat.
After a few minutes of enjoying the meal, a deafening sound shook everything on the table.
It was the castle's alarm bell; something was happening.
Diego's calm and cheerful eyes turned furious the moment he heard the sound; the man couldn't have a moment of peace.
He stood up furiously, and one of his subordinates arrived running and shouting.
"Sir!... Sir! The prison!"
Something was happening in the prison; Diego barely waited for the man to finish shouting before he ordered, looking at the servant and the guard at the door.
"Keep your eyes on Cateline, take her to a safe place. I want soldiers by her side, understood?"
He said angrily to everyone. They nodded, and Cateline stopped eating immediately. She was scared, not knowing what was happening. She feared something terrible was going on.
Diego rushed out of the room to see what was happening when the bell rang, a strong howl was heard, an invitation from his enemy. It was the ICE tribe.
Diego growled fiercely. He couldn't stand the taunts coming from the enemy Alpha. He ran like a beast toward the prison. The Alpha ran, feeling his eyes change color, turning red with hatred. He thirsted for blood; the ICE tribe would pay for appearing like this.
Cateline tried to stand, but a sharp, intense pain pierced her stomach, leaving her feeling dizzy. Something was trickling down her legs. Cristina immediately noticed what was happening, as did the guard. They smelled it in the air and rushed to hold her.
"Mistress?! Are you okay?"
Desperately, Cristina asked, but Cateline only groaned in pain.
"Get the healer, now!"
She shouted at the subordinate who stood there motionless. What was happening? Would Cateline have the baby now?
"Let's take her to the room!"
Cristina told the guard who was always nearby. He approached her and carefully held her in his arms. Cateline placed her hands around the guard's head and bit her lip, feeling the strong pains in her stomach, roaring in agony.
Cateline knew something was wrong. The worried guard hurriedly ran with her toward the room, and Cristina followed, terrified, wanting her mistress and the baby to be safe.
As they passed through the corridor, they saw soldiers everywhere—some running frantically, others in front of the gate with weapons, some already transformed forming a barrier, and others in mid-transformation running towards the castle's prison.
They screamed and howled loudly, making Cateline tightly shut her eyes due to the sound; her ears hurt, and the pain increased.
"It hurts so much."
The guard said, holding her firmly.
"We're almost there. Hold on."
He looked at the chaotic scene ahead. The guard also couldn't understand how the ICE tribe had entered; the castle was well protected. Cristina watched the scene and her mistress, who was already sweating from the pain.
Cristina saw soldiers from the Fire tribe fighting the ICE tribe in the distance. She never thought she would see that scene again—the wolves biting each other, the cries of pain echoing through the corridors. They pounced on one another, the howls incessant, and Cateline screamed in agony.
"Those damn people!"
Cristina roared with anger. She wanted to be there to put an end to the ICE tribe, but her priority was her mistress. Cristina called out to some soldiers passing by the corridor to join them. She said.
"Orders from the Alpha, he wants several soldiers protecting Felix's wife. Go back with more soldiers; we'll be with Thedeu."
"Alright, we'll be back soon."
The soldier replied, rushing off to seek reinforcements. Cristina stayed by her mistress's side.
Cateline felt increasing pain; she held her belly tightly until she reached her limit, losing consciousness and fainting. Cristina placed her hand on her mistress's face, calling out hysterically.
"Mistress??? My Mistress?? Please hold on..."
The servant urged the soldier to hurry so they could reach Thedeu; she was certain her mistress would be fine soon. And so he did, holding her tightly and running faster. Upon arriving at the woman's room, Cristina hastily opened the door, and Sir Fredy placed her on the bed.
"Now, you can stand guard... ask them to call Thedeu quickly; he can't delay any longer."
He nodded, following the order, standing guard immediately after summoning Thedeu.
Cristina held back her tears and softly spoke to her mistress.
"Please, Mistress, wake up soon. You have to be strong, for your baby..."
She hurried to the bathroom and returned with a bucket and a damp cloth, wiping the woman's forehead and trying to alleviate the sweat. She covered Cateline with a sheet and stroked her long hair... She remained seated close to her mistress, waiting for her to wake up.
"Why is the healer taking so long? Call him again..."
Cristina said angrily. Cateline needed swift care. The she-wolf tried to calm herself and prayed for Thedeu to arrive soon.
