Chapter 126

Kingdom of Wisdy

Cateline Fire and the Alpha

It had been a week since Diego had sent a spy to Aftermoon in search of information on how the battles were going. The Alpha was concerned but knew his son would return safely.

He had also ordered one of his guards to stay as Cateline's security. He knew she was safe in the castle, but Diego was cautious.

Amanda's execution would take place soon, and he was already organizing everything. It would be done in the old-fashioned way, in the village square near the castle. He needed to show what was done to enemies if they tried to harm him.

"Sir..."

Someone called at the door of the Alpha's suite.

"Come in."

Diego spoke seriously; there were still many things to be organized, and the man was impatient.

The man entered; he was one of the Alpha's subordinates.

"The informant has returned from Springdale, sir."

The subordinate said with his head down.

"And then...?"

Diego asked, looking intently, waiting for the details.

"They managed to execute Lords Helton and Sirio.The. The Aftermoon Kingdom now belongs to Joaquim Brown..."

Diego glanced at the papers for a few seconds and continued speaking.

"I don't want anyone talking about wolves in Aftermoon. If someone asks about it, say it was just a routine mission. I don't want them to think we allied with them... it would cause too many problems... I'm sure our wolf allies from other locations would question us..."

The Alpha spoke, resting his hand on his forehead. In a way, he was relieved that his son was safe. Now he could sleep more peacefully at night.

"And about the human..."

The subordinate spoke again; Diego raised his gaze to the man, listening to what he had to say.

"The healer informed me that she has a poor appetite. If the human continues like this, the child in her womb may be born weak or even prematurely..."

The Alpha began to worry again, but this time about his daughter-in-law. He knew it would already be difficult for a werewolf pup to develop in a human pregnancy of nine months; shepherds remained pregnant for eleven long months. Would the human endure until the end? The woman's belly was already large and heavy, and he knew it was tough for her.

Diego sighed deeply and raised his hands above his head, telling the subordinate.

"Tell her to meet me in the dining hall tonight. I will share my mealtime with her..."

He spoke dryly; the wolf knew his son made her miss him, and this was a very difficult period during pregnancy. He remembered his emotional and saddened wife, Freya, when she carried Felix in her womb. The Alpha had spent many moments by her side and knew how much Cateline missed that, spending most of her time alone.

"Yes, sir!"

The subordinate bowed and left the room to inform Cateline.

Diego, now alone in his suite, pondered how his son had won the battle; he was still amazed. He had succeeded, and he should have believed more in him. He was afraid Felix wouldn't make it; the Alpha had forgotten that he was now a man, a strong man. He was proud of his son and wanted to hear all the details from him.

The Alpha decided to take a bath; he called his maid to prepare it, and she went to the bathroom. He took off his pants and then his shirt, revealing his firm belly, strong chest, thick-veined arms, and defined legs. He waited nude on the sofa while the bath was prepared. Now, having news of his son, he could relax a little.

Cateline and Cristina Fire in the garden

"Madam, it's very cold today, and it's getting late... let's go back to the room, I'll prepare something warm for you."

Cristina spoke while sitting on the bench next to Cateline, who absentmindedly looked at the frozen foliage of the bushes.

"Everything's fine... I'm not hungry."

The human was sad, anxiously awaiting her beloved's return. The woman caressed her large belly, its size making it seem like she was almost at the end of her pregnancy.

"The baby needs to eat, madam... it's for their well-being."

Cristina insisted, and the human agreed, slowly getting up. At that moment, she felt the baby move – the first time she felt so good after a long time. It was a pleasant vibration, causing a smile to bloom on her face as she looked joyfully at Cristina.

"It's moving... feel it."

Cateline went to the maid, taking her hand and placing it on her belly. Cristina felt the little being moving there, but she felt something more, something she couldn't quite describe.

"What's wrong?"

Cateline asked, noticing the expression on the maid's face.

"It's nothing, just thinking about something..."

Cristina pondered for a few seconds, but soon her mistress caught her attention, bringing her back to the conversation.

"Let's go inside; I have to give something for this baby to eat."

Cateline became excited – it had been a while since she felt that way. The two of them entered the castle, heading towards the room.

It was already late afternoon, and upon reaching the room, Cateline ate some cookies with Cristina. For a few days, she had noticed a strange presence always close to her – a guard who used to stay only at the castle's entrance – making her uncomfortable.

"Cristina... do you know that guard who always stays close to us in the garden?"

The human asked, confused.

"Oh, yes... I think his name is Sir Fredy... he has been working here for a long time."

Cristina had already noticed the man's presence, but she knew he wouldn't harm Cateline.

The human ate quietly, trying to understand until someone knocked on the door.

Cristina got up to check; it was one of the Alpha's subordinates.

He said something to Cristina, who nodded, and then he left.

"Who was it?"

Cateline asked curiously, raising her gaze to her maid.

"The Alpha wants your presence at dinner tonight."

Cristina said somewhat awkwardly; it was the first time the wolf had made such a request. Cateline became worried.

"Has something happened?"

The human got up suddenly, and her body swayed; she felt dizzy. Her maid rushed to her, holding her firmly – the woman couldn't go through so many emotions; it was too dangerous.

"Madam, are you alright? Should I call the healer?"

Cristina asked, alarmed. Cateline was as pale as a sheet, seeming very weak.

"I'm fine... just a dizzy spell."

The maid helped her mistress sit back on the bed, and they waited until dinner time; the human needed to rest a bit.

She closed her eyes and fell asleep for a while...

Several hours passed, and Cateline woke up. She went to the bathroom to wash her face to fully wake up. She stretched and raised her arms, letting out a yawn. She smiled a bit, dried her face, changed her dress – she didn't know the reason for the invitation or the occasion, so she wore a beautiful yet neutral dress, nothing attention-grabbing. The subordinate knocked on the door again, informing that dinner was ready and set on the table.
