Chapter 164: Accusations

Chapter 164: Accusations
Nancy felt weak in the knees, how could Deon do this to her?
She stared at Deon in disbelief, this couldn’t be possible after all the support and help she had lent to him in winning Carina back, she didn’t expect this to go down like this.

“Deon, you knew about this.” She found herself screaming.
“No, please don’t do this. I don’t know why you created that page or what made you create it or who you did it for, but don’t lie that I knew about it.” Deon replied.
Nancy didn’t want to burst into tears, she didn’t want the police to think that she was being overly dramatic but Deon’s actions cut deep.
She could see why his relationship with Carina ended; he was a traitor and a coward! He didn’t deserve any love from any woman at all.

The police turned to her with a more serious look on her face, “Ma’am if you help us with the investigations it could help you in your situation right now, there’s no need to lie to us, we are checking for inconsistencies don’t do anything that will make you look suspicious.”

Nancy’s freedom flashed before her eyes. She glared at Deon who glared back at her. He could see that she was going down and he wasn’t ready to go down with her, he didn’t want to get involved at all. He was afraid trying to help may also drag him down with her.

When it was time for him to leave he said loudly to Nancy’s hearing, “I know this may be hard but I hope that you find Carina alive and well. And Nancy if you know anything please help the police find her so she can return home safely.”

“You know damn well that I know nothing about this!” She screamed.

“Please calm down, Miss Brown.” The police said to her.
“Please officer, I have no hand in this. I don't know what is happening but I don’t think I will be of any help to you. Please let me go.”

The police officer shook her head, “Miss, we need leads and we need your help with that you either cooperate and we won’t let you go till we get the information we are looking for.”

Nancy found it ridiculous that they were camping her there over something she had no idea about. Their only reason was that her messages to her followers collided with the time Carina went missing. To them, she was trying to make it look like Carina had left home without telling anyone.

“Think Nancy, think!” She said to herself over and over wondering who could have taken Carina away. What if it was Deon? Or even Harry? Or maybe it was Sara?

Her head began to spin by just thinking about it. Why would Carina be abducted by Sara? What business did they have with each other apart from getting her to divorce Harry?
She was tempted to mention Sara’s name but she feared what Sara would do to her if she was not the culprit. If she had to mention a name she would have to be tactical about it.
“Okay, you want leads right? Why not contact Carina’s ex-husband? He may know something.” She said,

“We are going to be inviting him next to the police station except that he’s also nowhere to be found. Family and friends have confirmed that they’re still in touch with him but Mr. Hughes is not on our suspect lists because he was part of those who made a report to the police about Carina’s disappearance.”

Nancy gasped, that must have been a wrong move to try and pin it on Harry so she thought of the next person,

“How about other members of the Hughes family? Sara Hughes for instance was not on very good terms with his cousin and his wife the rivalry continued even after the divorce. I’m sure she will also know something. You should reach out to her too.”

“Is there any reason you think she may be involved?” The police officer asked.

Nancy sighed, she had no reason for trying to pin it on her except that it was a gut feeling. What was she going to tell the police now? Then another genius thought crossed her mind, maybe it could get the police off her back.

“What about the one who hacked the account? Can’t we try and find out who it was? Maybe they hacked into the account and did what they did so that the blame would come to me. Maybe they are the real culprit.” Nancy said.

This time she was hoping that she would make some good points and get released but just as the police were pondering over what she had said Claudia made an appearance at the police station. Nancy’s face went pale when she saw her, Claudia would definitely throw her under the bus.

“Miss Grant, glad to have you here and on time. We now have Miss Brown in our custody and she says the victim was in support of the account she created.”

“That’s a lie! She created that account to destroy my sister’s marriage. I called her to take the page down but she denied knowledge of the account whatsoever. I confronted her on many occasions yet she denied it. Ineven reported the page and honestly thought that it had been taken down."

Nancy crumbled over Claudia’s accusations knowing that she wouldn’t be able to escape this time.

“Calm down Miss Grant.”
“If I don’t find my sister by the end of today I will be pressing charges against her.” Claudia pointed her finger at Nancy.

“Why are you doing this when you know I have nothing to do with this? While you’re accusing me the culprit is running loose out there.” Nancy cried.
“The account you created, gave the perpetrator the information they needed to abduct my sister, and if this case isn’t solved you’re going to court!”

Nancy’s world was falling apart, she had to do something,
“It’s Sara, she was the one who wanted to kidnap Carina!” She burst out crying loudly though it was a lie she would say anything to get out of trouble.
