Chapter 64 Sixty five
EMILY’S POV
Emily stood at the balcony, dragging the blanket closer to her body.
Roman had told her about his unpleasant encounter with her uncle yesterday, and now, the guilt was eating her up.
It was because of her he had been in that situation in the first place.
If not for her, her uncles would never have approached him.
She choked back the sob threatening to spill from her.
He had gone through all this for her, meanwhile she had been busy, immersed in Stefan.
Come to think of it, Roman had always put her first, ever since the first day she met him.
And she had paid him back, by pretending she wasn’t aware of the reason he left for the training school.
“I am so sorry,” Emily choked out, unable to stop the tears striding down her face.
“It’s all my fault, if not for me, you wouldn’t have been in such a situation in the first place.”
“Hey! Hey!,” Roman says calmly, before hugging her. “It’s not your fault, I did everything because I wanted to. You are important to me, and I will always do anything to make sure you are safe.”
“Don’t blame yourself please. And your uncles were also trying to protect you, they just didn’t care who they hurt to do that.”
Emily sniffed, wiping the tears away from her eyes.
She honestly didn’t know what to make of all these, but she was beyond grateful that those times she felt alone, there was family, protecting her from afar.
“What do I do now?” she asked, turning to face Roman.
“I honestly don’t know,’ Roman says, sighing deeply. “The experiment Anthony described all sounds too unpredictable to me.”
“There is so much that could go wrong, and then what about the babies?”
“We also don’t have enough time, with no other options,” Emily pointed out. “I know the risk involved, but I need to give it a try.”
“It’s the only chance we have.”
Roman sighed out, “Anthony mentioned they had successfully tried out the experiment on someone within his pack, why don’t we see this person, from there we can decide.”
Emily agreed with him, she knew he was worried about her and the baby, so if seeing this person was going to put his mind at ease, then she would do so.
They both prepared, before stepping out of the room, towards the lab.
The hallways weren’t as confusing anymore, so it was easy for them to locate the lab.
Rachel was the only one around when they got there.
“Hello, good morning.” Emily greeted, momentarily distracting her from what she had been doing.
“Good morning,” Rachel greeted back, smiling at the sight of them.
“Um! sorry to bother you,” Emily told her sheepishly, “but I need a favor from you.”
“Oh! ok, go ahead, what can I help you with.”
“You mentioned someone who had successfully survived the experiment, can we see this person?” Roman asked.
Emily observed as Rachel glanced at them worriedly, before smiling to mask it.
“Of course,” she says, “it’s only right you would want to see the results for yourself.”
“It’s a big experiment she continues, and with pregnancy in the way, one has to consider all risks.”
“Hold on, I need to make a quick call,” Rachel told them, before walking towards a small door leading to a makeshift office.
“What do you think?” Emily asked, moving towards the tall glass she would be entering.
“I think she is probably calling Anthony, or someone else.”
“You know,” Roman mutters, “I still don’t know what happened to the two guards Alpha Castor gave to us.”
“I am sure they are fine, Anthony wouldn’t want to do anything to provoke my da… Alpha Castor,” Emily says, quickly correcting herself.
It was still weird about Alpha Castor being her father, and even weirder calling him Dad.
If Roman had noticed the slip up, he didn’t comment on it.
Instead he smiled at her, before staring at the huge glass made for her.
Looking at it now, it looked so cold and ominous. With different tubes sticking out from it, and that long string dangling inside.
Emily sighed, before placing her hands on the glass, the coldness sipping into her palm.
“I am sorry for keeping you waiting, but I had to make sure it was safe to visit him now.”
“Safe!!, why wouldn’t it be safe?” Roman queried, “I thought you said the experiment was successful.”
“It was.” Rachel told them with a reassuring smile, “you know how a new pup behaves.”
“The experiment bonds you completely with your wolf, and for someone who has not been in touch with their wolf for a long time, it’s going to take some time to get used to.”
“So are you saying the same thing is going to happen to Emily?” Roman asked her.
“Yes,” Rachel replied bluntly. “But don’t worry, like I said, everything has been arranged for.”
“Now if you would like, we can proceed to where our experiment is being held.”
“Where is my uncle?” Emily asked Rachel, as they followed her through a door in the lab, leading them down a flight of stairs.
“They are there already.”
No further words were exchanged as they all went down the stairs. Emily took in everything, still baffled at how Anthony could turn a cave to something this amazing.
They reached a door, and Rachel used a card to open it.
Inside, Emily gasped.
There were different glass compartments, with different persons behind each glass. Researchers were everywhere, working with some, while some were running some kind of test.
Emily moved closer to Roman, clutching his hands in hers.
“Where is this place?” Roman asked calmly.
“This is where we test our experiment.” Rachel replied, turning back to glance at them, before pointing to a glass where a dark haired woman was currently running laps.
“She is one of our fastest runners, her genes enhanced to the fullest.” Our goal is to explore our genetics setup as much as we can, imagine all the things we could accomplish.”
Emily shared a quick glance with Roman, remaining silent as Rachel explained more about what they were trying to accomplish.
Finally, they got to a glass where Anthony was already standing in front of, along with two other researchers.
“Hello!,” he greeted them enthusiastically.
“Hello,” both Emily and Roman greeted back.
After discussing with the researchers, they took their leave, while Anthony turned towards them.
“Rachel told me you would like to see Killian, our latest experiment.”
“Yes,” Roman says, “if it’s no issue of course.”
“No! No, we don’t hide anything. Follow me,” Anthony told them, before walking forward a bit, towards where a lone glass stood.
Inside, a mixed colored wolf lay asleep, its head and half of its chest was grey in color, while the remaining part was dark black.
“Wow!!!Emily whispered out, she had never seen a multi-colored wolf before, and the one in front of her was absolutely stunning.
“Did the experiment give it this color, or was this its original color?” Roman asked.
“We can’t say for sure,” Anthony answered, “as Killian never had a wolf before.”
“Right now, his body is still getting used to being a wolf, and all the emotions that come with being one.” Rachel told them, “With time and practice, he would fully become a werewolf.”
Emily moved closer to the glass, trying to peep inside.
Like a siren call, something about the wolf drew her in.
Calmly, she placed her hands on the glass, before closing her eyes.
By the time she opened her eyes again, dark red eyes were staring back at her.
“Emily, move back,” Roman told her.
Emily cocked her head sideways, staring at the wolf looking at her.
The sleeping wolf was wide awake now, a deep menacing growl, coming from it.
She turned towards Anthony, intending to ask him something.
But the sudden bang from the glass behind her, tore a frightened scream from her mouth.
