Chapter 48 FOURTY NINE
ROMAN’S POV
Roman stared down Mr Castor, before nervously glancing around.
“How did you know it was me?” he asked, confused. Mr Castor has never seen his wolf before, so it was really confusing to him that he could identify his wolf.
“That’s for me to know,”Mr Castor says, smirking slightly. “Why are you following me?” He asked instead, totally evading the question.
“I wasn’t following you,” I just came out for my night run.
Mr Castor nodded his head, before exchanging an inexplicable glance with the man beside him.
“So, uh! What are you guys doing here?” Roman asked, glancing between the both men.
“None of your business,”Mr Castor snapped out.
The other man glanced at Mr Castor, before gently smacking his arms. He smiled at Roman, his pearly white teeth glistening in the darkness.
Roman shuffled awkwardly, the forest was dark, the moonlight shining in between branches of trees the only source of light.
He had seen Mr Castor stab Miss Falcon to death, so he knew the man was dangerous. It was two against one, and he didn’t know how to get away from this tricky situation.
The other man moved forward a bit, his outstretched hands startling Roman. “Oh, don’t be scared," he says, chuckling slightly.
“My name is Anthony Kinsley,” and this brute right here is my brother.
Brother’s Roman thought. He has not seen Anthony around, not that he had really gone around the school. But something told him that this had been a secret meeting he stumbled upon.
He shaked Anthony’s outstretched hand, gripping it firmly before letting go.
“My name is Roman,” he says. “So, uhm! "It was nice meeting you,” Roman told Anthony, moving backwards, before turning to leave them. But the next word Anthony utters, makes him freeze.
“How is your mate?” he asked Roman, his voice ringing out through the thick forest.
Roman gritted his teeth, his hands clenched beside him. Of course he should have suspected, it was strange how Mr Castor had known about his wolf. He could bet that the man knew who he was from the get go, he had killed Miss Falcon, leaving Emily behind. He suspected the man must have been keeping an eye out for her.
““I don’t know what you are talking about,”” Roman gritted out, turning to face both of them. ““I don’t have a mate, so you must be confusing me with someone else.””
Mr Castor snickers loudly, while Anthony simply smiles. Roman didn’t know any of them, but he could tell he preferred Anthony out of the two brothers. He glared at Mr Castor, watching as the man laughed.
“Oh! please,” Mr Castor gritted out, “save your lies. I know who you are, in fact, I am in this shit hole because of you.”
Roman frowned, wondering what the man was talking about.
“Have you been stalking me?” He asked, more alert at how dangerous his situation was.
“Not stalking, observing.” Anthony says, “We needed to be sure that you were really Emily’s mate.”
“What are you talking about?” Roman gritted out coldly. What has Emily got to do with this?”
“Emily is the reason for all this.” Anthony told him. “I am sure you are confused, and have answers. I assure you that we are here to help, nothing else.”
Roman glanced between Mr Castor and Anthony. He had wanted to find Mr Castor for the longest time, he knew if anyone had the answers he was looking for, it would be the grumpy man. But now, he wasn’t sure he was ready for it.
“Who are you guys?” he asked, staring pointedly at Mr Castor.
“Who we are doesn’t matter,” Mr Castor responded, “What matters is how we can help each other.”
“I know you saw what I did that night," he continued, "I could smell you, and your scent has been engraved in my mind.”
Roman clenched his hands, adjusting his stance. There was no need to deny, all he wanted to know now was why.
“Why did you kill her?”
Mr Castor chuckled, staring at Roman strangely. “Your pack doctor wasn't just a doctor, She was part of an organization that went to great lengths to study the unknown, and I am talking of painful great lengths.”
“We have been on Emily’s trail for a while, tracking her to your pack. We watched silently as you guys took her in, promising to step in if things didn’t go as planned.”
“When Emily started staying with Miss Falcon, we noticed suspicious movements between your doctor and unknown men, so we tracked them till we found out the truth.”
“I am sure you know by now that Emily’s wolf is no ordinary wolf.” Mr Castor continues, pacing back and forth.
“Yes,” Roman whispered out. He had noticed, he was sure everyone in the pack knew. “Wait, what kind of organization was Miss Falcon working for?” He asked out, his mind bursting with all this information.
“That’s not for you to know now, with time everything will become clearer to you.”
Roman glanced at Anthony, the question “Why,” on the tip of his tongue. Instead he nodded his head, it was no use. They would only tell him what he needed to know, he had experienced that with his father.
“So you killed her, because she was working for this organization?” Roman asks instead.
“Yes, and No,” Mr Castor says, turning towards Roman. “I killed her, because she was conducting experiments on Emily.”
“I had to act fast before she reported her findings back to her organization, so killing her was my only option.”
“These people can never get a hold of Emily you hear,” Anthony says, moving closer to Roman. He placed his hands on Roman shoulders, prompting Roman to look at him.
“You have to protect Emily at all costs, you have to protect your mate.”
Roman sighed, “how could he protect someone that wasn’t truly his?” Emily was already mated to Stefan, and knowing how Stefan was, he would be lucky if he even allowed him to come close to her.
“What kind of Wolf has the ability to be mated to different people at once?” I thought we only got one mate for life Roman asked, glancing between the both of them.
“A normal wolf has only one mate for life," Mr Castor says, "but a true Alpha can be mated to multiple people.”
Romans eyes widened, “Emily is a true Alpha?” He blurted out, shocked, not even able to describe what he was feeling.
