Chapter 9 Chapter 9
I flinched away from Vladimir, almost dropping the tray in my hands. "Al-Alpha... you... I was-" "Do you think it's fine to waste my breakfast time in such a manner?" His fists and jaw clenched, warning me that I was in for doom.
"No Alpha, it's not "
"Oh, relax. We were just having a little talk. Stop being so grumpy." Vladimir rolled his eyes, tucking his hands into his pockets.
Alpha Keegan glared at him and resumed walking. "Drop the tray on the table in my room; don't forget what you're here for." He said whilst walking past me.
"Keegan is still as crazy as ever." He sighed, wearing his smile at me again. "You look great when you're scared." My cheeks burned once again from his compliment. "You're invited to our training sessions, if you want to attend."
"Really?! No one ever invites me to training sessions."
"Now that's bad." He feigned pity.
"Yes. Uh... I have to go now- Alpha Keegan would kill me if he finds out I'm still here." I scuttled up the stairs and to Alpha Keegan's room.
"Hey girl, what's up?" Chloe chimed as she walked into the room with a pile of clothes in her hands.
"Nothing."
"Are you busy?"
"As long as Alpha Keegan doesn't need anything again this morning, I'm not busy and I'm very bored."
"Great. We should go on a run."
"A run?"
"Yes. Do you have a problem with it? It's fine if you don't want to. I just thought you'll need free time for a run." She shrugged, rolling her curls into a rough bun.
"Uh..." I scratched the back of my neck, trying to think of an excuse. I didn't want her to judge me and know I was cursed to be without a wolf.
"What's wrong?" Her brows knitted in confusion. "You're not wolfless, are you?"
I bit my lower lip, staring around to see if anything could serve as a distraction.
"Oh no. You are! Gosh, that's so terrible and disgusting!" I returned my gaze to her; her face was scrunched with irritation. "I can't believe I'm even talking to you."
"I'm just an omega." My forehead creased. "You're the only friend I've made here. Please don't judge me. I can be a—"
She interrupted me by bursting into laughter. "Relax girl, I'm just kidding. There's one omega without a wolf here and..." she stared at the door before leaning closer to me whisper, "the beta's mate is also wolfless, she's cursed." She pulled back, shrugging. "but nobody cares. You can watch me and Kim run. Kim is also an Omega."
"Great! I'd love that." I grinned, grateful that she didn't judge me like the Dark Stone pack members.
Chloe wore her sweatpants and sweatshirt before we left to catch up with Kim, a gothic-looking female with short black hair and dark eyes. The wings of her eyeliner were long and scary; her black eyeshadow and black lipsticks made her eyes and lips pop grisly.
"Hey, who's the chick?" Her voice was very deep and more frightening than her looks.
"Jane, the omega from Dark Stone pack."
"Oh, that one. Whatever. Let's head out. My legs are burning for a race."
I cringed before following them outside and to the backyard of the pack house which was directly in front of a thick and large forest.
They both switched to their wolf form, two not-so-small brown wolves. I could tell the bigger wolf was Kim's wolf because of the black line of fur from her eyes to her ears.
"It must feel so amazing. I wish I could switch to my wolf form too and run with the both of you." I sighed.
Kim's wolf nodded her head to her back. I didn't understand her gesture, so she did it again.
"You want me to stay on your back?" I asked, trying not to sound too excited. She nodded her wolf head and without thinking twice, I climbed on her back with a squeal which made her groan. "Sorry." I apologized, holding onto her sides very tight.
In two seconds, they both took to their paws, if that makes any sense. The speed made me scream at the top of my lungs and grasp Kim's sides tighter.
They ran into the woods faster than a dog's pace, staring at themselves in competition, probably on who was faster.
They reduced their speed then nodded at themselves before they continued running in different directions. Kim increased her running speed again while I shut my eyes and held onto her really tight, still screaming.
Kim's wolf continued running, not stopping a bit or reducing her pace. I wondered if her paws didn't hurt her.
"Please stop!" I pleaded, re-opening my eyes.
With my plea, she increased her pace. I had never moved this fast in my entire life; it was causing me to be dizzy.
I tightened my hands on Kim's wolf's side, maybe too tight because she let out a whimper and lost balance, bumping into a tree. The force at which she bumped made me hit my body on the branch of the tree and fall off her back, rolling on the ground till I hit my forehead on something hard, like a rock.
Her wolf eyes widened as she stared around. The last thing I saw before darkness took over me was Kim running away. I wanted to yell for her to come back but my dizziness took control of my consciousness.
I slowly opened my eyes, welcomed by the darkness of the night. The stars and moon seemed brighter than normal.
I tried to stand, but groaned from the excruciating pain in my body and head.
"Ouch." I sat up straight, staring around. "Where am I?" I asked myself. I remembered being on Kim's wolf's back then how she had left me when I fell. That Omega!
How could she leave me here all alone? I didn't know where this was and my eyes were mostly shut throughout the run. How could I find my way back to the pack house? It was such a long run.
"Anyone there?" I called and managed to rise to my feet, walking in whatever direction my legs took me. "Hello?" I called again, but still no response.
I could probably find a building if I walked further. The creeping sounds and chirps started to scare the hell out of me. I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere.
I heard the ruffling sound of the bushes behind me and snapped my head in the direction with a gasp. "Hello? Any... anyone there?" I croaked.
The sound became louder and nearer, like the thing was approaching me. I silently prayed Kim or anyone else had come to my rescue. "
Kim?"
I was warned that it wasn't Kim when a pair of red eyes shone from the bushes.
Though I was almost illiterate, I clearly remembered that red-eyed wolves belonged to rogues and they were mostly dangerous. I screamed and started running away as the big wolf charged at me. My dizziness and slow speed failed me as I was pushed to the ground from behind and was turned to face upwards, locking my eyes with the red ones of this ferocious-looking beast as it pounced on me, pinning me to the ground with its paws. I knew I was going to die soon, but not in the paws of a rogue.
