Chapter 84 Chapter 84
"I love my new roles and mostly the office. I glanced ahead of me, appreciating the beautiful view of the sky from the window. "The best thing about it is that it's right beside your office." I flashed a smile at him.
"Yes, I did that so I can check up on you all the time and will make sure you're safe." He asserted.
There was a knock on the door and it turned out to be none other than Mrs. Bea. "Good afternoon Alpha and..." her gaze settled on me, and she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, probably wondering whether or not she could call me Luna or mutt like she was used to." Good afternoon." she simply added.
"Good afternoon. Is there anything else you need?"
"Yes Alpha. I just realized and regarding the chores, now that she's not the omega, who will attend to them?"
"I almost forgot that." He glanced at me.
"It'd be best if we assign people that'll be willing and ready to do it and will be paid for their services, not out of forced labor." I suggested.
She frowned and glanced at Keegan, still waiting for his response.
"I think Luna's idea is perfect.
"Luna? Mrs. Kate? Oh right, I almost forgot." She faked a smile.
"Yes, your Luna. Do you have anything else?"
"No, not at all, not anything else at all." She shook her head, still wearing her fake smile as she hummed and took her leave.
"Luma." I chuckled again at the title.
"Yes, Luna. Is it really that hard to get used to it?"
"In a way, yes."
"It'll pass, don't worry. It also felt really strange when people started calling me Alpha." He cringed and I chuckled.
I maintained silence for a while, just going over the new responsibilities that'd follow being his Luna. "So, Keegan, since we're officially mates, what's the major difference between our acting relationship and now?"
"First, it isn't acting anymore. Secondly, I don't know about you but my attraction has grown crazily since we agreed to be mates. Thirdly, we don't have to bother about what the pack members have to say because we're now officially mates- oh, wait, we're not officially mates yet."
"What do you mean?"
"I haven't marked you yet. I need to do that to claim you as mine completely then we'll have to perform the ceremony. Though my mother isn't exactly the Luna, she's more like a previous Alpha, but because of her title, she'll have to hand it over to you then the ceremony will finally bond us and it's like we're married. I know it might seem so fast to you, so we'd go through each step at whatever time is convenient for you."
"They don't sound like harm, so I don't think I'd mind." I shrugged.
"You don't mind being married to me? Being stuck with me for life?" he had a smile on.
"I don't."
"Do you know how amazing I'd feel for my mark to sit prettily on your neck?" He pulled me to him and leaned head close to me. "It'd make me go crazy and I wouldn't stop kissing it." His breath fanned against my neck and made goosebumps fill my skin. "Just right here." His voice was very husky as he planted a soft kiss on my neck.
I shut my eyes, waiting to experience a pinching feeling on it then he pulled away.
"That's it? No pain?" I rubbed my neck, trying to see if there was a mark yet.
He laughed, shaking his head. "I didn't mark you."
"Oh, I thought you did." I chuckled in embarrassment.
"I didn't know you wanted me to right now." a simper played on his lips. "Anyway, I want it to also be memorable, so it'd be more special."
"That sounds better."
"Yes, so I guess Mason showed you your room. You know, you don't exactly have to stay there. We can still-"
"I love it. When can I move into it?"
He frowned, clearly disappointed. "So you want to leave me?"
"It's just a door away from your bedroom. I want to enjoy the room for now."
"Are you still going to move back to my bedroom?" His amber eyes were gloomy like a child that just lost his favorite toy.
"Yes, I will.'
"When? Tomorrow?"
"Are you that fond of me already?" I had a naughty smile on, glad he was interested in still having me around. "I have no idea of when yet, but I'm moving to my bedroom right now."
"Now?" he frowned.
"Yes. Stop being so pouty about it."
"Pouty? I'm the Alpha, why'd I be pouty?" he scoffed and when Mason walked back in, the sternness in his face returned.
I chuckled and turned to Mason. "I'd like to move into my new bedroom now. Would you please help me assign people to help with moving?"
"Of course." He smiled then paused. "I've linked a few people. They'll be at your service right now."
"Great, thank you!"
"Oh yeah, and most importantly, as Luna, you'd face more responsibilities and dangers, so we'll reach out to people to help her out with boosting your strength whenever you're interested." Keegan added.
"Okay, I'll let you know when." I nodded and quickly left.
After successfully moving into my new bedroom, I snuck to take Rylee in and locked the door, panting at the success of that.
"Finally!" I walked to sit on the queen-sized bed and Rylee slowly walked over to sit beside me, dropping her bag between us.
"Will Alpha Keegan kill me soon?" she asked in a very low voice.
"No, he's not that terrible."
"How am I supposed to believe that? Everyone knows he's a terrible man." Her voice was filled with so much doubt and fear.
"He's actually not." I tried to convince her.
"Please just don't let him know about me, I can't trust him especially after all that we've been told about him." She sounded so serious.
I wanted to know all that she had been told, but I was too tired for that, so I sighed and replied, "Fine, he won't.
"Thank you so much! I have another request." I nodded for her to proceed. "Please can I have a bath? I feel so dirty."
"Sure, I'll prepare a bubble bath for you."
"I can take a bubble bath?! My pack never let me have one." She grinned.
"Your pack sounds way terrible."
"Because they are! I can't imagine going back there." She shuddered.
I clicked my tongue then headed to the bathroom and lathered to lather the bath then called her in to take her clothes off and give her a bath.
I didn't know how to bathe children, so I was trying to be as gentle as possible and also make her neat.
When I washed her hair, it felt so sleek and beautiful, the perfect blend of ash and brown I had ever seen. "I love you hair so much."
"Thank you. I love yours too, it's just like my Mom's hair." "Really?" I asked rhetorically and she nodded. "That's really sweet because my hair color is so rare."
"Mom said that too." her smile slowly turned upside down.
"So... how did your parents die?" I asked.
"They were killed. I don't know who but I think they were either owing debts because of me or the man had a grudge against them, so he took revenge on them and killed them. None of my pack members wants to impact justice and fight for them because..." she was interrupted by suddenly bursting into tears. "...they thought they were useless." She sobbed as she cried while I rubbed her back. I had been about to say she was a very strong girl for not even crying about it, but I was glad she finally let out
"Now they left me and .. I don't have any family again. My whole life is ruined. No one to love me." She wailed.
"Don't worry, sweetheart, I'll be here for you." I assured her.
"I know you're just saying it to console me and I know you'll leave me soon or dump me somewhere soon." She buried her head in her palm, sobbing even more.
"I won't. It'll really be fine." I tried to calm her down, and rinsed her body while she still cried to herself.
I took her out of the bath and when I was drying her body with a towel, she was no longer crying but had her head hung low and was fiddling with her fingers.
"Jane, I promise you that I'm not a cry baby. My parents praised me for being so confident and extremely smart for a 6-year old, so please don't tell anyone I cried- who am I kidding? There's no one to make fun of me." She let out a mirthless laugh and sniffled.
"Yes, I agree that you're pretty smart. I'm assuring you that I'll make sure to take care of you and ensure your life is better." I left the bathroom and returned. Since I had no clothes that fit her, I had to wear one of my long shirt gowns over her so it was long enough to serve as a full gown for her, though it was very baggy.
I left the room and put her to sit on the bed.
"Do you know I was also like you- except the smart aspect- I was also an omega and thought I was an orphan, though I didn't remember my life before then, so I don't have any memory of my family. I feel your pain, so I'll make sure to let your life not be as mine turned out to be."
"thank you" she pulled me into a hug when there was a loud thump against my room door.
"quickly, hide!" I ushered her and she hid under the bed while the door was finally kicked open and an angry-looking Scarlett was standing right in front of the opened door with a knife in her clenched hand. "Scarlett?"
"Jane! You betrayed me!" she groaned and started heading to me with the knife pointed in my direction.
