Chapter 63 Chapter 63
\- JANE ~
"What just happened?" I asked, my entire body was still vibrating internally. My legs felt so wobbly as I walked up to Chloe and sat down with a harsh breath, feeling heat coating my cheeks. "What got into him? That was strange, but..." I had to admit I liked it. It made me feel really glad that he was so genuinely interested in claiming me as his despite my worthlessness, yet it was very extraordinary and I wondered what the hell brought such a reaction from him.
"Aw, she's blushing so much." Chloe teased and it only made my face feel redder. "I didn't know your Alpha was that possessive of you."
"He's not always like that." I retorted.
"So it's not the first time he's being so possessive?" She nudged my shoulder with her elbow, wiggling her eyebrows at me.
"Stop it!" I slapped her hand away, unable to stop blushing like a crazy animal. My lips still throbbed from his kiss and every part of my face and body he touched still tingled with a burning desire for more.
"You're so lucky." She sighed.
"Lucky?" I quirked an eyebrow at her.
She nodded, taking her gaze from me. "If I had someone that'd be that possessive of me, my life would be so great!"
"You can't say that yet until you experience it." Wait, someone had told me this statement...
"I'm certain it'll be. I'm just stuck with jumping from men to men, no hope for me. I haven't even found a mate yet in my whole life." She sighed, resting her hands on either side of her on the bed. "I just wish he would like me back, be possessive of me, and be my mate," she said like she was zoning out and didn't mean to utter the words out.
"Who is that?" I wondered.
She jerked her head in my direction and her eyes widened with realization as she shook her head. "No one!"
"Don't lie to me. You clearly said that you wish he would like you back and be possessive of you... who is ' he'?" I asked, placing a stress on 'he'.
She twittered, staring at everything else in the room except me whilst fiddling with her curls. "No one."
"Chloe, are you keeping something this huge from me?" I gasped dramatically, placing my hands on my chest and shook my head, "no! I won't accept such. I thought we were best friends!"
"Fine!" she sighed and finally returned her gaze to me. "There's this man I really like."
"Who is he?!"
"Uh... I don't... I'm certainly not going to have him as mine, so please let's move on to another discussion."
"Why not? Tell me who he is now before I drill into your nostrils!"
She glanced at me with knitted eyebrows before shaking her head. "I can't."
"Why not?" a frown crossed my face. "It's not fair for me to let you know things about me but you remain such a secretive duck."
She maintained silence for a while, just gazing into my eyes before she burst into laughter. "Relax, Jane. It's not such a big deal. If it was, I'd have let you know. I'll definitely tell you but I don't want to create any awkwardness yet."
I huffed with a roll of my eyes and it made her laugh again.
"Don't worry, I definitely will. Don't you trust me?" She rested her hand on my shoulder.
My eyes traveled from her hand to her face, a warm smile was plastered on her lips that wouldn't let me remain angry at her.
"You're so annoying!" I hit her shoulder.
She threw her head back to laugh then ended it with a sigh. "Anyway, please be careful to avoid hurting yourself."
"Uh?" I wondered what the hell she was talking about.
"What don't you understand by that?" she rolled her eyes. "Didn't you mention earlier that you have so much to attend to? Why are you still sitting here? Get up." She shooed me.
"Won't you help me out with the chores?"
"Not this time, sorry. I'm so tired. I'll head to bed now." She laid on Alpha Keegan's bed without care, yawning loudly.
"You're so annoying." I left the room and headed to the room for the cleaning equipment when I observed Mae walking in my direction.
"Hi Mae," I waved at her with a grin.
"Hi," she waved back, chuckling nervously.
"What's wrong?" I wondered.
She shook her head excessively. "N-nothing. Why'd anything be wrong?" she twittered again.
"okay..." I trailed off and lifted my cleaning equipment with me.
I pretended to be walking away but hid from her view and watched her stealthily walking away from the pack house like a thief trying not to be caught.
What was she up to?
~ MAE -
I quickly headed out and sprinted to the garden to meet Casper though I had a lot of things to balance in the pack account.
"Hi Casper." I waved at him.
"Hi Mae. We seem to be bumping into each other more often." He chuckled, wearing his coat over him as he rose up from the bench.
"Would you come with me to the upcoming couples' party?" I asked in one breath.
His forehead creased like I was a crazy old lady and I felt like being swallowed by the ground. 'You're so stupid. Why don't you ever know how to ask questions indirectly?' My wolf, Gift, scolded.
I let out an embarrassed sigh. "I really want to go but since I'm single, I might not be allowed to, it'll be so awkward. I was just asking just for fun, no big- I'm sorry for asking."
"No, it's fine. I'd love to go with you, but I plan to go with Jane for our second date as a make up of the first one." 'see?! He's willing to go!' I squealed to Gift. "Actually... Jane would be going with Alpha Keegan." I lied and feigned care.
"Oh. I didn't know she'd go with him." He scratched his neck. "Well... I guess we can go together, right?"
"Yes!" I exclaimed.
"Great, so I'll pick you up about three hours later to drive you there, or should we go with the pack members going in a group?"
"No, you can pick me up. Going alone sounds much better."
"If you say so, then that's cool. It makes sense. I have to leave now, my break is over."
"Sure, no problem." I smiled, shoving my hands into my jacket's pocket.
"Bye." He waved and took his leave while I grinned at him shamelessly till he was out of my sight. Gift squealed, excited that there was at least progress with Casper.
"The only issue now is with Jane. What if he finds out that I lied about Jane?' I asked Gift, furrowing my forehead in confusion.
~ MASON~
I wasn't expecting anyone to read from my point of view but yeah, uh.. here we go.
I had been so scared of so many things lately, especially with piling responsibilities. I tried so hard to hide my fear from everyone else to maintain my confidence. I was extremely scared that something terrible was going to happen to the pack, especially with those good-for-nothing Ardolfs' presence again. They literally almost took my life when I was younger.
Another issue was that I was so scared of being a Dad. It made different thoughts reel in my head at all times. Did I want to raise my child in such a pack? I wanted my child to live a happy life and be like his or her mother, not the arrogant person the pack made me and everyone else to be.
"Hi Mason," Vladimir called.
I pivoted to him, washing off every worry from my face and sauntered to him with a blank expression." Good evening, Alpha Vladimir. Do you need anything from me?"
"Yes, there's something wrong with the switch in the guest room I'm staying in."
"Okay. I'll assign someone to fix it."
"Okay, thank you." He smiled. It felt strange to see an Alpha smile, probably because our Alpha was one cold piece of rock.
"It's my pleasure." I bowed and took my leave. I had to derive a lot of information about Vladimir due to the long family feud between him and Alpha Keegan, so we couldn't be completely safe around him. I had known him as a cunning man back then. He didn't seem like that type of person anymore, but we couldn't take any risk and Alpha Keegan wasn't going to rest without being fully convinced that Vladimir had a terrible motive behind his existence.
I had to spy on him as closely as I could but right now, I had to head to Crystal before she murdered me for not sending enough time with her when she was off-duty.
When I opened the door and headed to her to pull me into a tight hug, grinning.
"I have been waiting for you so much. There was no one to attend to my crazy cravings, so it had to go on its own." She frowned.
"I apologize." I chuckled.
"It's fine. There's a lot we have to do. I have so many things to tell you."
I listened attentively as she excitedly told me so many things, whether or not they were interesting to listen to or boring. I couldn't bring myself to let her know that some things she said about her patients weren't in my topic of interest, but I had to bear with it because her voice filled mine and my wolf's soul with bliss and relief.
I loved Crystal so much, and I just really hoped Sabrina didn't come back...
