Chapter 64 Chapter 64
\- KEEGAN -
I was in one of the most important meetings of the pack when someone thought it was right to interrupt their Alpha's mind.
'Hello?' Jane called.
I was surprised to hear her voice in my head for the first time ever and quickly responded, 'Do you need anything?'
'Wow, so it finally worked!' She sounded extremely excited at her victory and that made the grumpiness surrounding me vanish in an instant. The things this woman caused to me... 'With hard practice, I finally got it! I've been trying to mind link you for over an hour now, through the help of this book from the pack library on how to mind link your mate.'
'See? She regards us as our mate!' Drex celebrated.
I felt proud of her that she at least put effort in it. " That's great. Do you need anything? I'm in a very important meeting.
"Oh, I apologize. I was just... r-really bored and neither Mae nor Chloe is here," She stuttered. "I apologize. B-bye... uh... Later.'
I cut the link since she clearly couldn't do that.
'Our mate can't be left bored and alone.'
'Of course not.' I smiled back.
"Alpha?" Mason called, drawing my attention back to the meeting.
I gazed at everyone's confused faces and evaluated the importance of the meeting. It didn't feel as important as spending time with Jane. My soul was dying to see her again. "The meeting is over." I announced.
"What? Alpha, you were just about to—"
I cut Shane off, "it's over when I say it is. I have other important things to attend to. It'll continue later. You all should head back to work." I rose to my feet and left the room, leaving them all completely puzzled.
I couldn't fight the fact that she felt more important than any meeting or anything else to me. The meeting was also going to frustrate me and meant more grouchiness but in her presence, I felt calm and could freely express genuine happiness. I loved being around her more than anywhere else.
I headed to the place where I had kept the boxes and called someone to carry them. A young woman carried them and followed me into my bedroom. The omega-Jane was sitting on the cushioned bedroom bench with her eyes glued to her phone's screen when we walked in.
"Place them on the bed." I instructed the woman.
She nodded and dropped the boxes on the bed " Anything else, Alpha?"
"No. You can leave now."
She bowed her head before taking her leave.
Jane lifted her gaze from her phone as she glanced at the woman till she was out of our sight then her gaze rested on me with her eyes drawn together and her brows lifted up. "Why are you here?"
"You said you were bored, so I came here to make you unbored." I smirked and sat beside her.
Her deep blue eyes were still filled with confusion. "I thought you were in a very important meeting."
"Yes, I was, but I'd leave any meeting for you." I said in a deeper voice and it made her freeze with goosebumps evident on her skin. To avoid her feeling uneasy, I pulled away and carried the boxes, handing them over to her.
"What is this?" she asked, looking even more confused.
"Open them at least."
With her eyes squinted at me, she dropped the boxes on the floor and opened one of them, revealing the beautiful wine fabric. "What's this for?" she still asked.
"Just open them all." I leaned back against the bed, watching her closely as she opened the second box that contained a pair of silver heels with diamond rhinestones around them.
"This has to be a joke." She chortled and opened the third box that contained a matching diamond necklace, bangles, and earrings with multiple makeup items.
"I can't believe this." She let out a harsh breath, holding her chest in disbelief, glancing at me and the boxes at short intervals. "Are these for me?" she asked and I nodded. "Oh my gosh! This is so unbelievable." she picked the shoe and it made it seem like it was shining brighter than normal. " They're all so beautiful- and makeup?!" she picked one of the makeup items and I noticed her eyes become glassy. "I don't deserve these, I love them so much! How can they be for me? Are they really mine?" she asked and I nodded. "But why?"
"Why?"
"Yes, the rules clearly state that I have no entitlement to new things, the rules you made!" She reminded me of the rules I made with the help of my mother, as an immature young child.
"I gave them to you, so it shouldn't matter."
"Why'd you give them to me? I like them, but..." she fanned a hand over her face in disbelief and dabbed her eyes to prevent tears from falling down. "Am I dreaming? How can this be real?"
"It is, and I'll actually need you to wear them for an upcoming party I'd like you to attend with me."
"What party?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow with settling doubts in her denim blue eyes.
"There's this party..." I trailed off, trying not to make
it sound weird, "it's a special and classy party at another pack with a strict guest list. It's meant for couples, and I'd like for you to come with me as a... uh ... like my date or partner." I could feel a tightness in my heartless chest, like the fear of her refusing to come with me.
"As your partner?" her forehead wrinkled.
"Uh... yes..." I cleared my throat, trying to maintain a bold posture to avoid her noticing my eagerness to hear her answer.
"So that's why you bought these for me?" I noticed disappointment in her glare.
"No, not exactly. I wanted to buy them for you because you mentioned that they were your likes, then I thought that it'll be perfect to wear them to the party."
"Why'd you want me to be your partner at such an event?" she wondered.
I shrugged, unable to find an answer to the question myself and Drex was keeping quiet, being nothing but of no use to me right now.
"I mean, there are other women. Why'd you want me? I'm just an omega."
"Because I choose you, I want you and..." I avoided her gaze, "... I'll be bored and grumpy if you're not there." I glanced at her, catching the proud smile she had on before she quickly got rid of it.
"I don't know about that. I want them," she dropped the heels back, "but going as your partner, don't you think-"
"You made me do it for Scarlett, I had to pretend to be her boyfriend because you asked. You can't refuse me now. I'll make it up to you, I'll make sure you have more dresses or whatever you want. You said you love nature, right? I'll book a vacation for the two of us even before the party, in a place surrounded by nature." When I realized I was sounding too desperate for her approval, I went poker-faced and added, "of course, if you want to go, it's not something you should be forced to do against your will."
"I'll do it if I can go on a vacation! At least I'll have a break from dying everyday from so many chores." "Then a vacation it is!" I couldn't hide the smile that was plastered on my lips.
"It feels so good to finally own a makeup item, I feel too worthless to even own these things right now, it feels like someone's going to take them from me. Regardless of whether or not it's just because you don't want me to look ugly beside you, I still appreciate it so much." A genuine smile was on her lips.
"Why'd you think you'd look ugly?" I frowned.
"Have you seen how I look lately?" she chortled.
I hated such stupid low self esteem and self downgrading so much. "You're not ugly. Just because you don't wear makeup shouldn't make you feel any less beautiful. Seeing your face every morning gives me a reason to smile and it's so annoying that you don't acknowledge how beautiful you are. Everything about you is perfect, why else would I be so attrac—" I stopped before I blurted too many things out. I didn't realize I was raising my voice until I noticed how she was covered back. I let out a harsh breath and pulled her into a hug, hoping I didn't sound too cringe. Though my words and emotions were genuine, I didn't want to seem creepy.
"I'll assign someone to buy new clothes and items you'll need for a normal living as a woman. I feel the need to apologize for so many things, but I can't bring myself to do it yet. I'm starting to view a few things from your perspective and I realize you don't deserve to be treated the way you are just to make my pack seem harsher. You're not worthless, you're not ugly, nothing should make you feel that way. You just unfortunately fell into the wrong pack."
She pulled away, peering into my eyes like I had lost my mind. "Are you sick?" she placed the back of her palm on my forehead.
"I'm an Alpha, why'd I be sick?" I shook her hand from my head.
"Then where is this coming from? Why'd 'Alpha Keegan' view anything from the perspective of an ' Omega'?"
"Forget about it. I'll send someone to give you a new dress to wear for dinner tonight. You can join us at the dinner table for high-ranked werewolves." "You gave me such beautiful dresses, shoes, makeup with a promised vacation to somewhere surrounded by nature-things I love, you complimented me, you agreed that I'm not treated fairly in your pack, and now you're inviting me to join you for dinner at the high-ranked members' table? I don't know where this is coming from, but I really appreciate it and would love it if you could remain this kind. If it's a dream, I don't think I want to wake up from it." I chuckled, shaking my head at her. "You're so dramatic. I'll meet you upstairs." I rose to my feet and strutted out of the room.
