Vladimir was still here and had surprisingly not performed any action yet. What did he want? Was he going to head over to the party from here? Or did he have any other motive for being here? I wondered to myself as I dug into my files, searching for anything at all that I hadn't worked on.
'Scarlett,' I mind linked her.
It took a while till she responded, 'yes, Alpha?'
'Head over to my office. I'd like to discuss something with you.'
'Okay, I'll be there as soon as possible.'
After a while, Scarlett walked in.
"I noticed a few guards are no longer on duty. Do you have any idea why?"
"I fired a few of them for inappropriate behavior, but assigned new guards."
"Though we need more guards at this point in the pack, I believe your decision should be right."
"Yes, thank you." She grinned and it seem like her eyelashes fluttered at me coquettishly.
'What the heck is wrong with this beta? Does she always have to hit on us at every chance she gets?'
Drex rolled his eyes.
"Okay, you can leave now." I dismissed, not wanting to get irritated by any of her gestures.
"Keegan, do you know—"
"Scarlett, I have a lot of work to attend to, okay?" I tried not to sound rude.
Her smile slipped off and she turned away and left in quick steps, bumping into Mason on her way out.
Without apologizing, she sprinted out of sight, and a confused Mason walked in, glancing back at her then to me with a lifted eyebrow.
I shrugged in dismissal and he walked in, dropping the book on the table.
"What's this?"
"It's about Vladimir."
"Really?" I began to open the book.
"Not, not the book. I meant, about Vladimir..."
"Oh. What about him? Any new information?" I leaned closer.
"Not really any juicy news yet. He's so secretive, so it's hard to derive any information from him. You know I've never taken this much time to find something out about someone or something." he said and I nodded in agreement of his reliability. "Vladimir is a tough case. He's an Alpha, so he'll know how to hold onto what's going on in his head better. However, I noticed that since Vladimir came, he usually stealthily leaves for a few hours or minutes, and he's always on a call with a particular man. He's also been keeping really quiet recently.
"Hmm..." I intertwined my fingers and rested my chin on my knuckles. "We have to work to be more vigilant to dig things out about him to the root."
"Yes, Alpha. I will." he bowed his head.
"Great, you can leave. I have to prepare for the upcoming pack meeting and also need to check out the building being constructed at the pack." I informed him and he nodded.
"So... uhm.. Alpha..." I lifted a brow at him, wondering what he still had to say. "About what we discussed that night..."
"What night?"
"About the omega." he added, peering into my eyes. " Have you decided on your feelings for her as your mate?"
It was weird that Mason still wanted to talk to me but I shook my head. "I mean, yes- no, I'm still very confused."
"I know you've always developed such a strong wall around you, but I need you to know that having a mate, especially someone that's as good as Jane, wouldn't kill your strength or anything. I understand that that's a thought you have been raised with, but you can't remain single forever. We both know that I'm very observant and I must say that through your eyes, I can understand your emotions for Jane. I'll advise you to give her a chance. If you don't do so, she won't be with you forever to bear with your indecisiveness and you might not find someone else you'd be comfortable to be with... judging from your arrogant personality" he muttered the last word, not realizing my hearing sensitivity could make me pick that.
I nodded in understanding. "I guess you're right. I might've needed your word of advice and it came at the right time."
'Haven't I been mentioning how important Jane is to us?' Drex scoffed.
"I'm glad to hear that. I have to return to Crystal. Her weird pregnancy cravings and attitude are killing!" He returned to his stern face and from his furrowed eyebrows, it was obvious that Crystal was mind- linking him.
"Sure, no problem."
He bowed his head before taking his leave, while I sank deeper in my seat, letting my thoughts reel around the omega.
The entire day had gone by pretty quicker than I thought, but at least, I was free for now, so I decided to head to the leisure room for the first time in a really long time- to probably play an indoor sport alone or just relax on the balcony, enjoying the beautiful atmosphere.
I opened the door to the room and the pleasant smell of the strawberry-scented freshener reminded me of the omega, bringing instant calmness to me.
'We can rather be with our mate. We haven't seen her all day.' Drex suggested.
'That sounds great. I've been thinking about the omega all day but haven't seen her.'
'Jane,' Drex corrected. 'Our mate is more than a title.
The sound of her name sets fire in our blood!'
"Hey brother," the sound of Vladimir's voice filled me with instant rage that destroyed the presiding peace in me.
I turned around and a frown was plastered on my face to see the ugly smirk he had on.
"Alpha Vladimir, why are you here?"
"Why can't I be? It's meant for everyone's relaxation."
The sound of the door opening drew our attention to it as Mom walked in, staring between both of us with the most emotionless expression. "What's going on?" she asked, taking a few steps closer to us.
"What perfect timing. It's so nice to finally meet you, mother. We're all standing together again as one family." he chuckled.
Mom's face scrunched up into a tight frown. "Alpha Vladimir, we should all keep our relationships at the same level it is. You're the Alpha of Night Shadow pack and I'm the previous leader of this pack with the title of Luna, he's the Alpha of this pack, let's keep our addressions to our titles and not dwell on past titles." she cautioned.
Vladimir laughed. "Past titles? Then you shouldn't be called the luna." he shrugged, "let's forget that. Relationships aren't to be traded for unnecessary titles, right brother?" he glanced at me with a lopsided smile.
Mom's face became even colder and her jaw and fists clenched. She looked like she wanted to utter more words to him but we were probably never going to find out because there was a knock on the door and a petite servant of the Luna walked in without being granted permission.
Her eyes trailed between the three of us and panic automatically set in them as she bowed her head. "I apologize for the interruption. I only came here to call for Luna Kate's attention."
"Let's go. I said I was going to be there in a few minutes. Couldn't you wait?" she scolded the lady as they both walked out of the room and shut the door.
"Do you know where I was before coming here?" Vladimir asked with a sly smile.
"Why would I care?" I wondered.
"Oh, I thought you'd care, but you might probably not care that I was with Jane." He smirked.
'Why the fuck was he with our mate?'
A frown formed on my face as he continued talking, "You know that she-wolf is really fucking hot and has a thing for me in her heart.'
'Keep quiet, Vladimir." I warned.
"So it isn't Alpha Vladimir anymore?" he chuckled.
"Stay away from her."
"Why? Do you also have feelings for her?" he asked with a smirk.
I had a response to his question. I couldn't describe what I felt for the omega to him, it was a strange emotion I couldn't define yet, and he was the least person that had to know about it.
"I don't know about you, but for me, I want Jane more than anything. She's the most attractive woman I've ever set my eyes on, and I want her. You should know very well that when I want something, I always have it. Now I want Jane Williams, I'd definitely have her, no matter what or who tries to stop me." His smirking became more sinister.
"Vladimir, if you dare lay your hands on her or try to think about her any more, I'll fucking kill you." I threatened, my fists were clenched, almost at the point of swaying right into his face.
"I'll see who tries to stop me from having Jane, as mine alone."
"Vladimir!" I drew my lips into a snarl and grabbed his collar.
"What? She likes me more than she likes you? Does it affect you? Are you scared to lose something to me again? You know she's not a pack-land that you'll run away from to form another one out of your envy." "Watch your fucking mouth before I lose my temper!" I said through gritted teeth, trying to hold in Drex from taking over.
He tilted his head with an even intense smirk and pulled my hands from gripping his shirt. "Neither of us can tell each other what to do, so you can't stop me make from having the woman I want. Retrace your steps from her before it's too late so the pain doesn't you into an even more terrible monster than you already are." He took his leave.
My blood was boiling beyond limit and I felt like I was going to explode as I let out a deep growl and smashed a vase off its stand.
'Who the hell does he think he is to try to trouble us again? Nobody is having our mate!' Drex growled, almost at the point of taking complete control and storming to hit Vladimir in the face multiple times till he passed out.
I pushed him back and stormed away to my bedroom, just in time to walk into the omega and Chloe talking about the damn asshole.
"Yes, he's really cute and sweet." She said with a small blush running up my cheeks.
My head throbbed and I could feel the veins underneath my skin pop up as I stormed to her and grabbed her arm to pull her to my chest. "You're mine, okay? You're mine!" I hollered, Drex was slowing taking over my anger.
Her eyes widened as she stared up at me, completely puzzled and trembling.
'Shit! We made her scared again.' Drex cussed.
I shut my eyes and exhaled to calm myself down, wrapping an arm around her waist and running my hand over her face felt like a rush of placation to my soul. I held the back of her head and pulled her into a deep kissing, letting my anger flush down in her kiss. She still looked befuddled but was able to return my kiss; her acceptance made me feel at ease as I ran my hand along the small of her bare back, feeling flow of electrocution in her kiss.
I ended the kiss and cupped her face, resting my forehead on hers and shut my eyes, afraid to see the look in her eyes. "Don't leave me for anyone, you're no one else's but mine, and it has to remain that way, okay?" my voice was surprisingly very soothing. I pulled away and gazed at her. Her face had flushed red and was filled with an equal combination of horror, confusion, and embarrassment.
I glanced at Chloe whose eyes were widened then back at the omega, the both of them were staring at me and made me feel like I had lost my mind.
"Proceed with whatever you were doing." I cleared my throat and took my leave and for the first time in a long time, I felt embarrassed walking out as I felt their gaze on me.
