Chapter 56 Chapter 56
'It's alright. I'm by the door already.' I mind linked Mason who kept bugging me that Mom wanted a meeting with us.
"Okay, great." He ended the link.
I twisted the door knob and opened the door. When I realized that the only people in the meeting room were Shane, Mom, Mrs. Bea, Scarlett, and Mason, it dawned on me what the discussion of the meeting was going to be about and that made me feel a heavy weight in my chest.
With slow steps, I walked up to the meeting table and had a seat.
"Good evening everyone." I greeted and turned to Luna, "what's the point of the meeting?"
"You should already know that it's because of the Ardolfs. They aren't such easy people that we'll just keep quiet about when we know that they could probably hop on us anytime soon." Mom said, though her tone was a bit cold and she was trying to hide her worry, the fear still rang in her voice. "The Ardolfs are stronger than we think, you all know that, right?"
"I've also been thinking about them. I've been having terrible nightmares about them hunting me or doing something bad to me." Mrs. Bea said, her forehead was a bit wrinkled in fear. "We definitely shouldn't keep quiet about them."
"And what makes you think we're quiet about them? I've been working towards plans and ways to fight against them at any point we might encounter. Mason, Scarlett, haven't you been working on it?"
"I have, we'll just have to strategize to build it up even more." Mason suggested. "I'm trying to focus on different sectors on the pack at once to avoid causing a mess."
"That's great." I commented and glanced at Scarlett, trying my best to ignore and get rid of the tightness in my chest.
"I've also been working on the training section. I and Shane have tripled the number of people we're training."
"Yes, we've helped people build their strength and more people are guarding the border and in and around the pack." Shane added. "There's more determination and focus from the pack members and with the cooperation we've helped them build and develop even more, the Ardolfs would be no match against everyone together."
I nodded, impressed by their progression. "And Mrs. Bea?"
"I'm still watching over the pack house. I didn't know I was supposed to have extra duties."
"Didn't you receive the list of your new roles?" I frowned at her.
She shook her head negatively. "I didn't receive anything."
"Scarlett?" I glanced at her.
"I apologize, Alpha, I must've forgotten to give it to her. I'll send it to her." She bowed her head in apology.
"Anyway, Mrs. Bea, your main role, as always, is to make sure everything in the pack house is safe, ensure everyone is healthy and isn't under any form of threat. Ensure that more guards are where they should be. You'll see the extra roles when Scarlett sends them to you."
"Okay, Alpha." She nodded.
Mom only had her gaze on me, not interrupting me for once, which was strange, because she was always trying to insert her opinion in matters at all times.
"Anyway, I've been working on new roles and strategies and ways to involve even more pack members without drawing suspicions. I didn't print it out or send it to either of you for confidentiality purpose, but you should ensure that you come to me tomorrow to receive them and keep every information of this meeting and all attachments related to the Ardolfs a secret, okay?" I instructed and they all nodded in agreement. "You can all take your leave. I have to head to bed early, I have a terrible headache. "Oh, before I forget, any more updates about the attack?"
"Not at all, Alpha." Mason replied.
"And did Jane mention anything about them now that she's back?" Scarlett drew her eyes in askance.
"The omega is back?" Mrs. Bea wondered. "I had no idea."
"No one should place pressure on her to say anything." I warned. "Anyway, the pack security was strengthened and a report came in that the attack that was supposed to happen, a few pack members and guards were able to fight it off without needing any help. Shane, you'll head over to the location and confirm if there's still anything that needs to be attended to." I instructed and he nodded.
"Okay, that's it for today. Goodnight." I was still trying to maintain a bold appearance but the fear and weight in my chest from the thought of the Ardolfs was still there, no matter how hard I tried to hide it and avoid it.
They all nodded and started taking their leave one at a time. When everyone else had left and I realized I was still in the same room as Mom, a frown formed on my face and I rose to my feet.
"Keegan, I must say that I'm very impressed with how you handled the situation of the Ardolfs and everything else. It's at least still a good sign that you haven't lost your mind completely."
I glared at her, a frown etched on my face.
"I can't believe you aren't worried about them. It's a good sign, but we can't be too careless. I'll consult help for extra strengthening of the barrier around the border to prevent them from ever coming again."
"Just don't do anything without my approval." I warned and took my leave, unable to get rid of the unsettling distress in me. It made no sense that I could be this stressed over something like this.
'You're nothing but useless. You can't ever achieve anything without destroying it.' his stupid voice rang in my head again. 'You're nothing but a piece of trash, the greatest mistake of my life.'
I held my head, grunting, yet the voice didn't stop reverberating in my head and filling me with imposter syndrome. How the hell hadn't these stopped? How could I still be letting it affect me?
'Keegan, stop this.' Drex growled, equally furious by my actions. 'Stop being so stupid by letting him get to you again.'
'BE QUIET!' I scowled at him and shut him off, my fists had clenched and my body was becoming more sweaty.
"This makes no sense. I need help." I said to myself, panting. When I glanced around, I was glad no one was around to notice my madness. The voice continued ringing in my head and I knew I needed someone's company to get rid of his monstrous voice without destroying anything. Judging from the way I had been feeling towards the omega recently, I knew she was going to be the only way I could calm myself down.
